Saw Moonrise Kingdom, loved it. Could watch a tv series with those characters or just those 2 kids.

Oh and I just realized Jonny Lee Miller was Jordan Chase in that barrel girls season of Dexter Blew my mind cuz I simply didn't realize that and had to go back and check to really recognize him. Seems he has more than one American accent cuz I usually recognize ppl quicker even when they adapt that much for a role.

Blew. My. Mind. Will get into it later. But goddamn. This will be hard to beat for summer blockbuster. Especially by some trashy Fast Six film.

That's pretty unanimous on here so far, except for Venom. I'm for sure going to check out Into Darkness now. I was on the fence before because I'm not a huge ST fan and thought the original reboot film was good, but not great. I'm in now.

I'm not a committed Trekkie by any means, but I have really wanted to dig into classic Star Trek proper, just haven't had the time to.

I understand some of the general pop culture surrounding the film, and I felt like I got a good majority of the references, but beside that, JJ does a great job continuing where he left off. He had a good platform to base this film off of, and it worked well.

I'll still get into it later, but I was kinda irked that I didn't get to refresh my memory by watching the original Star Trek 2009, but it wasn't needed. The film flowed fine and I was able to grasp everything perfectly.

Probably won't write up my essay till later tonight, but I thought there was greatness all-around, and I had one gripe, which I'll get into later, but I understand the decision behind it.

Noble you seriously didn't like Pitch Perfect? Maybe I set the bar so low on it that I was impressed, but I really liked it... weirdly.

I didnt man... I tried but just couldnt get past the cheesiness. and i love cheesiness. movies like hamlet 2 and cannibal the musical had me in tears.

certain parts made me laugh but too many parts made me cringe.

Look ************ if you ain't smart enough to get with the FF franchise, fine, but don't be bad mouthin it. That franchise >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>your life. In fact, that joint better than pretty much any franchise you get down with. And it's getting BETTER.

I get the origins of it are weak, and a bit on the lite side, not a lot of substance, but that's the thing, the MINUTE that Lin took over for thee worst film in the series, he transformed everything. He changed the entire culture of the series and made it something bigger than what anyone ever dreamed of when the series began.

Cool cars, hot chicks, some tough dudes, action, the end. Repeat in different cities, and churn out some sequels......

Or so they thought.

Justin Lin made it more than that. He brought the stories around full circle. He brought in new blood, and brought back old blood. He's tied the entire series up and made it entertaining as hell, without getting old or stale. Go find me a franchise that has pulled that off, off the cuff.

Lord of the Rings was great, by the time 3 hit, I'd seen everything 14 times already. Just a longer extension of the first.
Matrix, 2 was solid, added to the series, and 3 fell off a cliff.
Die Hard dipped at 2, back up with 3 and Sam L and now is pointed straight down.
Rocky? 2 and 3 lulled, 4 went up a smidge and 5-6 were meh.
Expendables? Already dead at 2, and they'll make 9 more.
Transporter? Same movies, insurance paid for a new car.

Most franchises wear down, THIS FRANCHISE IS TRENDING UPPPPPPPPP AT #6. Get that thru your damn skull. This ain't random, or mindless idiots following it, you have guys that watch every damn thing there is, that love this series, and keep comin back.

And to top that off, starting with 4, then 5, now 6, you got a white dude, black dudes, an asian dude, a hispanic woman, a white woman, (whatever Vin Diesel is, white, black, mix, I don't know) now you add the Rock, Gina, etc. You have a DIVERSE cast, all getting equal play. We know who started the series, who built it, who the "main" guys, but this is Ocean's Eleven, only getting stronger, while Oceans was dying by the end of the second films opening credits. All white dudes, with a couple black actors they mix in as "comedy" relief. Clooney, Pitt, Roberts, Damon are the "stars".

How many of these films have you seen? Or you just run your mouth on the series to be funny in here? Cuz I'm not tryin to make it loud, I don't care, but you should at least do some homework before you know it, and hype the ******** horror crap you be proppin up all the damn time. Know what's what at least.

Wow, a ONeg-length essay about the Fast & Furious franchise, in response to a throwaway line in another post. There's something impressive about that. Someone in the franchise owes you an award for your loyalty and support, CP. You almost have me convinced they movies are as good as you say. At the least, Jordanna Brewster should take you to lunch or something. She doesn't do much when she's not making F&F movies.

It's a really great character piece. That's the movie that made Elizabeth Olsen, and she kills it in uh...both roles. And then there's John Hawkes who pretty much cemented his spot as one of the most underrated actors going. The less you know about it, the better. Just know that the direction is slight and subtle, that it almost feels like the director caught little acting and framing miracles all over the place, until you realize the film is just that subversive.

One of the best of '11, easy. Shame she hasn't really lived up to the hype off that yet.

This movie has an impressive cast. In addition to the names you mentioned, it also has Lilly Taylor, James Caan, Noah Emmerich, Matthias Schoenaerts, Jamie Hector, & Domenick Lombardozzi.The last 2 guys are from The Wire. It also has Bono's daughter.

This film is set for release in France but nothing pending for the States yet which pisses me off. Hollywood will give the green light to an MIB4 or a Wild Bunch remake set in modern times but this film has no US distro yet? SMH in disbelief...

Star Trek Into Darkness just might be the equivalent to Empire Strikes Back. I don't mean to say that 2009 Star Trek is nearly on the level of the original Star Wars (A New Hope), but that Into Darkness surpasses Star Trek, at least to me.

I'm going to go ahead and spoiler the rest of this, because I want to get into some of the stuff, and it involves spoilers.

I kept hating that every time I watched an interview with Chris Pine or Zach Quinto, they'd say "We won't mention the huge spoilers!" Like Jesus Christ, there's a spoiler big enough that they have to mention every time that they AREN'T going to explain it?

I'm surprised I didn't think about it. Khan. Khan!!! Of course! I had all kinds of theories. Was expecting maybe Cumberbatch was a Klingon, or that maybe he was related to Spock somehow, something. Maybe a Romulan related to Nero? I'm incredibly disappointed that looking into IMDB shows that Cumberbatch is Khan. Say his pseudonym, for crying out loud. I feel sorry for anyone that goes to the IMDB page and gets the film spoiled for them.

Going into the film proper, man. The opening scene on that primitive planet was a thrill. Even though it was the opening of the film, you still felt a sense of danger which really helped in the ending of the film. You see that Kirk is brash enough that he's willing to wager the lives of his entire crew to save Spock, even though that is strictly against code. But that's Kirk, and his naivety may be his downfall. I also thought the natives on that island looked damn cool. Never have I imagined how freaky it'd be if our eyelids rolled up from the bottom. Gnarly.

I enjoyed that Kirk was brought down to earth by Pike, his superior. Nothing is above Captain Kirk, even though he's the brazen, strong Captain of the USS Enterprise. Meanwhile the entire scene with John Harrison attacking London was so damn intimidating. It's like he had the Bane voice, without the silly filter. Cumberbatch was superb throughout. He's broken out on the scene to me like Fassbender has. His voice is just so powerful, something like we haven't seen recently. Not many men can carry a role just on the power of their voice. That dude can.

Instead of breaking down each part of the film, saying what I liked, I'll speak more generally. I thought all of the action was top-notch. I thought that it was really cool that they ended up fighting a bunch of Klingons, even if they were demolished by Khan. From there, to the ending action sequence, it was all great. I really love each of the members of the USS Enterprise. I felt like McCoy had a much bigger role in the last film. I love Karl Urban and think he does a great job with Bones, but he seemed to take a backseat in this one. Hell, Scotty seemed to have way more screen time than Bones, and that's not necessarily a bad thing because I love Pegg, but I was just wishing to see a little more of Bones. Uhura, Spock, Kirk, and Sulu are all sufficient, but I felt like Chekov really took a bigger step than I expected in this one. Chekov was really fun and witty in this compared to the prior film. He was more of a nuisance before. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but was Peter Weller in the original? I had no idea this dude was going to be in this film, and I got a little nerd-boner when I saw Robocop as an Admiral for the Starfleet. . Although Alice Eve was amazingly hot and a key piece of the plot, I'm glad that there were no major love plots going on in this one. We had plenty of RomCom stuff in Star Trek, and even some here with Spock/Uhura on Kronos, and I'm fine with them setting up Kirk and Carol in the future if that's what they want to do, but that's not what this film was about.

This was about Spock and Kirk. As it should be. Spock, Kirk, and Khan. Yes. That's exactly what I want from a Star Trek film. Although Cumberbatch doesn't seem nearly the physical threat that Ricardo Montalban was, he was just as menacing with his great acting. The dynamic of doing what's right and what's against protocol was a great aspect that really helped build the dynamic of the two young stars of Star Trek.

The one minuscule gripe I have with the film is that I felt that they killed a lot of the emotional impact on the film by reviving Captain Kirk. I completely understand why they did it. I saw it coming a mile away. I just don't necessarily think it was the best choice in terms of creating an impactful film. For me, it's that .5 that separates it from being a perfect film.

Either way, I'm confident that Star Trek is in good hands. I'm just worried that JJ will re-focus on Star Wars, and then we won't get another ST film half as good as this one. If we can get one with a Klingon war, or more stuff with Khan? Man I'm happy.

I have never been into Star Trek as huge as I was Star Wars. That's changing. I have been sitting on TOS Blu-rays for a while, and I'm going to break them out this summer. I have the entire series along with the corresponding films. I can't wait to dig into them. I'll be transitioning to a new job/city the next two months, and it may take me a while to get into it, but I want to finish it by the end of 2013. There's just so much material out there, I can't wait to start digesting it all.

If I could have a dream fulfilled, if this cast of the Enterprise started their own show; Chris Pine, Zach Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe, Yelchin, Pegg. Bruh. I'd die. Even if we just got a season out of it.

I love this cast man. I'm sad that it'll probably be another four years until we get another one of these. But other than one minor flaw, this is a great entry to a brand new awesome set of Star Trek films. Cumberbatch, tip of the hat to you my friend, I hope we see you again in a Star Trek film.

So, it's my wife's birthday today and tonight we have a rare non-PG movie trip. I had expected to see Star Trek - we both enjoyed TNG and Voyager and really liked that last movie - but the other day she threw a spanner into the works by saying that she had heard that IM3 was better.

Is that true? This decision basically means that one movie will be seen on the big screen and the other will be DVD in a few months. They're both showing locally at decent times so which one is "better"?
