Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Sure, that's often the response about movies adapted from books, but there's plenty of exceptions. Like I said, Silence of Lambs, Devil Wears Prada, the Godfather.

Don't forget pretty much every movie Stanley Kubrick has ever made. With The Shining he proved that he could use the book as a blueprint, but make a movie radically different but just as good if not better than the book.

The Kubrick movie that straight blows the book out of the water is the shining.

2001 was written in conjunction with the movie. They fed off each other. The screenplay was cowritten by Arthur C Clarke. the book explains things in detail while the movie is about a visceral feeling. Most scenes are subjective. I treat them like companion pieces.

A clockwork orange is a fantastic book despite being a difficult read with the strange language. It's even more messed up in many parts. The kids are younger. There are times where I think the book has the better ending but I go back and forth. It's a more realistic ending. But I think Kubrick simply has a different view on "evil"

Paths of glory and Lolita I've never read so I wouldn't know.

From what I've heard eyes wide shut the book is better than the movie. It's called dream story.

Most of the books he adapted would have crushed the movie under a lesser director. Not only did he pick incredible source material, he was able to equal or top the book. It's impressive.

Watched a grip of movies over the weekend. Got around to watching Super 8. Really liked that little girl's accent. Seemed like the typical Spielberg story though even with Abrams direction didn't seem like there was much to deviate from. Fun little nice movie to watch like mos of his are.

Looper was cool. Could've cut 20 min off though, kinda dragged for a bit. Digging Emily Blunt more and more.

 @ Savages. I watched Hick awhile back having some hope for Blake but this sucked it away. Totally would bang Salma with that wig on

I liked Dredd, hope there's more sequels. Total Recall was meh. Just not the same without tri-boobs and bug eyed oxgen-less about to die scenes.

Premium Rush, meh but Michael Shannon showed me a different side to his acting ability.

Probably will watch Safe and 21 Jump Street later.

Posted this in the AD4 season thread but...

Finished Arrested Development Season 3 today.

It was a little odd too, because for some reason I thought the season had 15 episodes. So when it got near the end, I was like.. "uh, wait, am I done?" And sure enough, I was . Man, what a mental workout man. This show makes you THINK, and I love that. There are so many things that are interwoven, so many tiny things that connect that you can go back and notice. To even further exemplify that, I paused it on Rita's newspaper clipping in the last episode. If you actually read the article, it explains a lot about what happened with her and revealed some things you may have not understood if you just plowed through without thinking about it. Even had a second article below that read, "TV DVD sales at an all-time high." And of course, the "No, I'm not sure about a TV show. But maybe a movie..."

The whole thing in Iraq stretching the belief a lot, but I knew they had to tie up that storyline somehow. It was just ridiculous is all.

Gonna read up on some of the material you guys have posted and said to watch BEFORE watching Season 4, then going to do my best to really get into it tonight. Will try to get to Episode 5 at least, which many have said is one of the funnier episodes of the entire series.

Also, something that shouldn't have blown my mind at all (since he IS a reporter) but started to rewatch 24 Season 5 a little bit today, and the news reporter on the TV is the SAME guy from Arrested Development. Just weird to see.

Season 3 was sketchy because the show's future was so uncertain. So I'll blame the slight decline in quality on that..

Don't reveal anything, but what do you think about Season 4 so far from what you watched?

It's the same show... just turned up a notch. The episodes are longer so they're a lot more complex and dense with story. The episodes focus on one character, which takes some getting used to, but once you pick up on the general stories going on, it works well.

My expectations weren't THAT high just because I didn't want to be disappointed... but I think it was excellent. Not as great as the show at it's best, but very close.

Watching Bonnie and Clyde last night and I had to grab my Kill Bill vol 1. dvd

\

the scene where the Texas Ranger is interrogating Clyde's sister-in-law after the shootout must have been the inspiration for:

You could spend a lifetime picking at Quentin Tarantino movies

Good find. Def wouldnt surprise me if that is where QT got that scene from. Surprise he borrowed from a movie as prominent as Bonnie & Clyde though. He usually pulls things from obscure B-movie types

That's awesome, Bling Ring is one of my more anticipated movies this year

having seen the horrible lifetime version of the bling ring i am still trying to figure out why they would remake a lifetime movie as bad as that one...

It's not a remake of the Lifetime movie, it's the story of true events, the teens were given the title "the Bling Ring" by the media.

While Sofia Coppola was working on hers Lifetime also put out the a movie about it

I can't wait to see Emma Watson deliver this craziness:

Samuel Jackson will record any 300 word monologue out loud

It's simple, write 300 words and the most upvoted post I'll read out loud in monologue form.
I'm doing this for one of my favorite non-profits, Alzheimer's Society, as my family have been unfortunate enough to have been affected by the disease.
As a BONUS, I'm offering you all the chance to be flown to the UK for lunch with ME in return for just a tiny donation to this amazing cause. I'll also sign a beloved Kangol hat and mail it to anyone that donates $200 or more!
