Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

It might be sacrilege to Stephen Kings fans, but I enjoyed Shawshank the movie more than the book. I couldn't even finish any of the Puzo books Godfather was based on but anytime they come on AMC no matter what time it is, I'll finish the movie right then & there (even though I have them on blu ray). I love what Spielberg did with Walker's novel & might almost say Color Purple the movie was better than the book. Ditto with Children of Men, I liked the movie more than the book...

Memento was based on a book? I thought that was a short story Christopher's brother wrote? Unless I'm thinking of another Nolan movie. Never knew Children of Men had a paperback counterpart.

A little movie trivia I discovered last night, was that the song at the end credits for The Dreamers, is the same one Inception used when the people dreaming were warned they were about to be woken up. +1 to you, Mr. Nolan. I dont care if I'm late, that halfway blew my mind

you mean this one? It is also the signature song of Edith Piaf who was played by Marion Cotillard who was Mal (Cobbs' wife) in Inception which got her the Oscar in the year or 2 before Inception came out. That movie was La Vie En Rose

Edith was also the best singer of France in the 20th century.

Saw Margin Call today, a lot like Too Big To Fail but focusing on one (fictional) marketing firm that was the first to realize that the model they used to buy and sell due to the lack of restrictions were going to lead to them being severely in debt and bankrupt if things went the wrong way which was compounded by the fact that they had already been working outside the parameters of crossing that line in the sand like a week ago. Then they come up with a solution. More of the same but with other really good actors which kept it compelling.

Irons
Spacey (It was great to see him basically play the opposite character he played in TBTF and come off believable. He seems to be one of the few of my favorite actors consistently picking challenging and interesting roles that perfectly display their talent).
Moore
Quinto
That guy I think name was Sam from Gossip Girl (the dude from BK that was smashing Blake Lively)
Bettany
Baker (The Mentalist dude)
Tucci

:smokin

If you liked TBTF I'd recommend it. I liked it almost as much as that.

Also saw Abduction with the wolf guy Taylor from Twilight just cuz John Singleton directed it and just the other day I was asking where are the JS directed movies at? :x @ what I saw. Sigourney and my boy Alfred Molina are just out for a check in this. Direction wise there's only so much you can do with such a derivative contrived plot and such stiff melodramatic acting from this wolf kid. Would've been better off cutting most of his speaking scenes and making it more like a Jason Statham action martial arts fighting flick. I'd almost feel bad for dudes like him and Zac Efron if they seriously consider themselves good actors.

You're right, it was a short story. I was typing in a stream of conscious manner....

The book written by PD James was very detailed in the world James created (in terms of describing a dystopian world & the politics of the time, but it kind of dragged on a bit for me. I struggled to finish it.

The movie doesn't follow the book faithfully. It's a very loose adaptation however James herself was quoted as being please with the film.

I don't mind if filmmakers don't follow canon as long as they provide a good movie.

Really good movie. I have a thing for the French language

Close Encounters of the Third Kind was on the Esquire channel yesterday (will never get used to calling it that instead of G4)

But that's one of my favorite Spielberg films

I think The Devil In The White City will be better than the book. So many architectural details that are cool to know, but won't be necessary for the movie.

Yo I'm around page 300 lol

**** is is a very hard read.

That's funny I know we keep bringing it up. The first half is an architects wet dream. Around 230 it's for the common man.

The thing is... It is all interesting. But it's just... It really starts out mostly like specifically for architect geeks. Which is cool.

I just read about tesla, shredded wheat, unions, ferris wheels and a bunch of random stuff. It's all good but u can't speed read it. You simply can't speed read it.

I keep fallin to sleep to purge

Tried twice already

I been trying to check it out cuz they compared it to the Trayvon case but so far I can't see where it relates

Is anyone watching the second season of Magic City on Starz? I like it so far. Love Danny Houston as Ben The Butcher Diamond...
