Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Hey. So uhh. Pacific Rim takes a giant dump on all of these other summer movies. Loved it. Every part. Made me feel like a kid again. Why didn't I have that back then? Instead all I got was that atrocious Godzilla film.

Before, during, and after. What the hell does twitter have to do with anything?

Because Twitter is pretty much the most effective hype machine ever created. So, in the Twitter age, things can get hyped up more quickly and more widely than before Twitter was around.

Pacific Rim is what a summer blockbuster is supposed to be. Not butchered like Transformers, or White House Down, or every forgettable action film that we see every summer.

Why? Because it wasn't made by someone who had passion for what he was making.

Guillermo del Toro, ladies and gentlemen.

He is one of the only filmmakers who's as passionate for his work as much as his fans are. Not only does he have wonderful artistic style, but he knows the films in which he's making, and takes his time with his research.

This is Godzilla meets Evangelion/Gundam.

The marketing for this film wasn't that great, and I have a feeling not that many people will go see this.

But honestly? This could've been this generations Star Wars. It's perfect. They created a world with giant robots and kaiju monsters. I have no idea if they created figures for this, but those should sell like HOTCAKES.

This is a summer action film that has lasting power.

They drop you into a world where there's the threat of giant monsters coming from beneath the sea (kaiju), and the worlds superpowers battle these threats by developing giant mechanized robots that two people operate by using a brain0link.

They go into so much detail and emphasis on the situation that it does feel real. ANd hte relationships formed in the film you actually care about. THere are stereotypes, but it doesn't make you feel like that the characters are stale.

I don't want to talk about it too much, because it seems like not many people have seen it, but it's a goddamn 10/10 for me.

It brought me back to being a kid in the movie theaters. I envy kids that are 8-14, because this is exactly what I wanted as a kid.

Oh and I want Idris Elba in every film from this point forward. Action, comedy, thriller, drama, horror, I don't care.

I've never so strongly co-signed something you've typed on this website and coming from me that's saying alot

Everything that Hollywood has ruined from my childhood was redeemed in this movie.

So in the Netflix thread, people are really talking up Orange Is The New Black? Anybody in here given it a chance yet?

Naw, not interested in Orange Is The New Black... :rolleyes

I am interested in seeing the Japanese remake of Unforgiven starring Ken Wantanabe. The full trailer is now available however no English subtitles.

The Unforgiven remake also stars Jun Kunimura who played ill-fated Boss Tanaka in Kill Bill 2. Speaking of which, I didn't know there was a sequel to Outrage called Outrage Beyond... Gonna have to find it so I can watch... First one was good.

JPZ, I've seen a few people in here talk about that Black/Orange show. I know nothing about it tho.

As for Dexter, I like the start of season 8, but understand that it's a Deb season, she's driving the bus right now. (3 eps in) I don't know if you like or hate Deb, but if you like her, you'll be fine. (I am pro Deb, I think she is fantastic and the best actor/actress on the show outside of Michael C Hall maybe) She makes ugly crying faces, but she can act her damn *** off and the show benefits from her.

Only 9 more episodes left. :frown:

Trailer for indie flick called I Declare War. Synopsis taken from youtube page -

AUDIENCE AWARD WINNER: 2012 Fantastic Fest, OFFICIAL SELECTION: Toronto International Film Festival
Armed with nothing more than twigs, their imaginations and a simple set of rules, a group of 12-year-olds engaged in a lively game of Capture the Flag in the neighborhood woods start dangerously blurring the lines between make-believe and reality. Rocks = Grenades. Trees = Control towers. Sticks = Submachine guns. The youthful innocence of the game gradually takes on a different tone as the quest for victory pushes the boundaries of friendship. The would-be warriors get a searing glimpse of humanity's dark side as their combat scenario takes them beyond the rules of the game and into an adventure where fantasy combat clashes with the real world.

Looks interesting to me... Depending on what it's rated, might have to watch on VOD with my son.

 @ the trailer and the Cyclops eye blast scene.

Seems all this movie did was steal what every episode of Rugrats did which is cool :smokin

You know what might be great about this movie, is that it's (the special effects) what you pretended when you played "war" as a kid. I know I did. At that age playing war with all the neighborhood kids was "it" especially if kids from the neighboring streets go in too... Ahhhh nostalgia.... :D

I forgot to mention the movie hits iTunes & VOD July 26th...

Absolutely agree. We used to trample the **** outta the neighbors roses, grass, climbin over/under fences, arguin over who gets what gun, etc.

Everytime a kid went to the store with his parents, they was tryin to get new guns to come home and show out.

(save the World War 2 jokes, the Vietnam cracks, all that other bs. No, I was not in those, nor was I alive you douche bags  )

I can't remember who manufactured them, but I remember in the 80s, they had these cap guns that looked too real. Even had magazines that took long caps (instead of the round ones). I had an m16 & a walter ppk. My brother had a colt .45 & an ak-47. They ended up banning them because they looked to real. My brother & I were so stoked when we got those.

 I don't get what was kept from your childhood that was in this

I grew up in the 80s, big *** robots fighting and blowing stuff up was a huge part of everything I liked.

Transformers, Voltron, hell even Gobots was my ****.

In order to make a movie that features stuff like this you typically have to make it appeal to a broad audience in order to make the movie profitable. That's why I hate transformers so much because it totally **** on the spirit of the original material to appeal to as broad an audience as possible.

To me Pacific Rim was an homage to that stuff, you can tell it was made by people who loved that stuff as well.

I get why people don't like it but I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a movie so much upon the initial viewing

^ Going to the IMAX 3D 10:10 showing here in Minny with the girl and :pimp: before.

Don't know what to expect! I've heard so many different vantage points that all had distinct reviews.

McQueen picked some great white ppl to be racists. Specifically Dano, Fassbender, and Paulson. Of course Giamatti can pull off about anything.

Trailer looked great.

JA, JA, JA!!!!!!!

ALL OF YOU.

Watch, The Conjuring. :wow:

I just got out from a screening, FANtastic. Loved it. Story, acting, directing, sound, everything. Really well done horror film. My wife and I both loved it.

This weekend guys, take your girls.

9.5/10 Horror.
8.5/10 overall movie.

I finally gave Lawless a look.

Not sure what the general consensus was in here, but I thought it was about as hollow as an empty moonshine jug. Shia and Hardy killed it, and it was aesthetically pleasing, but what really happened over two hours? It felt like the movie equivalent of a random Walking Dead episode. And I learned next to nothing about any of the characters.

Totally forgettable.
