Steve Carrell...early on he showed some signs that he might really be able to have an interesting dramatic film career. A better one than Will Ferrell...on par with the best of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler even? I mean he was that guy. Killing it on The Office
, putting in work in 40 Year Old Virgin
and Little Miss Sunshine
. I thought if he got the right roles, he could even have a shot at Robin Williams' career. Maybe not the comedic highs, but the dramatic ones, yeah.
There's something about him that's different than most comic actors. You can see the traditional leading man there. Cuz that's what holds them back. People see their kinda wacky or offbeat faces and wanna laugh, so when they don't get that, they get bored or annoyed. But with him, he can turn it all the way up like Anchorman
, turn it sour like the early parts of Sunshine
and all of The Way, Way Back
, or turn it down and be endearing like Dan in Real Life
He was kinda like Mark Ruffalo mixed with Jim Carrey...but then he decided to be in all the worst movies. All of them.
I thought he'd take off once the The Office
was done. Maybe Foxcatcher
'll kick it off, but Iono.
You couldnta told me the "You know how I know you're gay" guy, would have a better career than him.
