Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

American Hustle is David O Russell and an incredible cast giving you an entertaining as hell 2 hours. Great acting performances, awesome soundtrack, very funny, and my biggest complaint is the plot can be a bit jumbled and messy.

It's nothing like Gangster Squad... which I couldn't even finish.

You see Wolf, Big J?

This film will be one of the greatest films in American cinema to not receive the recognition it deserves at the Academy Awards because of the ludicrous and lascivious nature of Jordan Belfort's life, despite its accurate and entertaining portrayal.

3 hours long and not once did I itch in my seat. I checked the time on my phone around the second act, but only to know how much more time I had left. The film is an amazing ride of laughter, insanity, debauchery, intimacy and greed. A film about passion and the misdirection of one's desires was effectively delivered by a brilliant director and a cast of actors—nitwits and DiCaprio—included.

The Uncut version is a must watch if Scorsese ever releases it.

I would rather watch Gangster Squad over American Hustle. It was two hours of nothing. Gangster Squad was so bad that I was cracking up. Either way, both of these movies are so poor compared to Wolf of Wall Street. What a ******g movie. Gotta go see it again. Three hours and it only felt like an hour 45. Didn't check my phone once, I was locked. Also has that vintage Scorcese feel.

I think it'll be hard for Amy Adams to even get an Oscar nomination this year. The top two contenders are obviously gonna be Bullock and Blanchett and then you have the old timers like Streep, Dench, and Emma Thompson. Maybe mediocre buzz from those movies means Amy sneaks her way in but I doubt it.

If anything, look for Jennifer Lawrence in best supporting actress her scenery chewing is ****** epic and she steals every scene she is in. I wouldn't be surprised if she ends up winning,

When doing my first count on the screener...i counted 15 possible oscar nominations for American Hustle

Now that I'm thinking more rationally it'll be about 8-9.

Adams was awesome and deserves a nod over Streep or Dench who did nothing new in their roles, I know how crazy that sounds.

Lawrence will get nominated too. I wonder if Russell gets a director and screenplay nod, I'm guessing yes for at least 1. They'll get a music and costume/makeup nomination. Bale better get nominated, and Cooper could/should get a supporting nomination

Damn venom giving American Hustle an A and loving Captain Phillips, seems like a stretch based off of fellow critic/word of mouth reviews. .

The only thing I'm hearing negative about American Hustlet is people feel like it's a rip off, which is a dumb thing to say about any film that comes out these days.

Jordan Belfort's life was that ridiculous. I don't have any gripes with anything that some may feel were absurd. That was the era of drugs and fast living.

I keep seeing American Hustle spoken favorably but idk. I haven't watched but haven't seen anything that stands out as amazing from the trailers.

People keep forgetting Belfort is/was a criminal, and if you've read his book, you can tell he's super proud of it. I probably won't see the movie just to avoid giving this piker my attention.

Maybe it's just to keep face, but every interview I've seen of Belfort, he states how he isn't proud of his past, but understands it happened and now uses his wrongdoings to lead by example and guide listeners in a positive way to succeed.

Worth watching if you have the time.

I think he's a complete fraud, FWIW.

If you gonna take this stance, you can't be a hypocrite about all of the other movies and tv shows you've watched based on real life criminals since you don't want to give Belfort any of your attention

Watched Brick starring JGL the other day on the Sundance channel and I really enjoyed it. It's a hardboiled detective story in a California suburb with mostly high school characters. Nothing mind blowing but definitely worth a watch if you have the chance.

It's not attention, it's money. It's like if Hitler profited off of Schindler's list.

Awesome flick for sure. Fantastic story and acting.

Bill Simmons just said Jennifer Lawrence stole every second of screen time in American Hustle and compared her to Tiger 97-2000.

That, is high praise.

Yeah but who gives a flying **** about Bill Simmons' movie opinions?

JLaw was indeed the best part of the movie though :smokin

I watched 3/4 of Darren Aronofsky's Pi last night before falling asleep. Great concept. The music and direction were fantastic. I'm genuinely curious to how it ends.

Crazy how our existence is so number and pattern based. That Hasidic dude blew my mind with the numbers and Hebrew letters thing (father and mother being the same numbers as child) . Never knew there was a relation.

You guys are gonna make me pony up to see American Hustle aren't you  . Most likely gonna wait for a screener to pop up though.

I like David O Russell's work & I'm going to see American Hustle at some point

It seems like some people who don't like it were expecting a Scorsese flick for but are put off by the kind of unintended humor of the characters & story lines that Russell likes to instill in his movies. Since it didn't measure up, these folks are saying it's a rip off.

American Hustle was great! Watched Wolf of Wall Street last night and that was absolutely WILD! LOVED it!!! :smokin :smokin :smokin

Just saw "Small Time Crooks" with Woody Allen and Tracy Ulman...a classic Woody Allen flick. He is so neurotic, the film has story elements that are so classic. It has jokes all throughout. It's probably my third or fourth Allen film I've seen...everyone one was a good story.

It seems like the issues people have with Wolf is expecting a normal Wall Street film and not a biopic about one of the most absurd, corrupt and creative brokers on Wall Street. The movie is an amazing ride through Belfort's ridiculous life.

THIS! The trailers do this film no justice now just how wild and crazy of a film this was gonna be.

I too like O Russell's work. Big fan of The Fighter, and enjoyed SLP. However, I just get vibes from AH that I'm going to ultimately think it's overrated ala Argo. I ponied up and watched Argo after it won Best Picture (frankly because I couldn't understand how it did), and I was left the "eh' feeling. I know people love it, but I just wasn't all that into it.

I would love to be proved wrong with AH. Another reason I'm hesitant is because my friends and I just wrapped up a 70s short (whenever I can post a link up for you all to watch, I will. I've intended on it, but haven't gotten the go-ahead to do so yet), so I already know what kind of wardrobe, hairstyle, lingo, etc to expect... and who knows if AH delivers. The trailer just doesn't scream authentic 70s to me, but again, I could be wrong and would like to be proved wrong whenever I get a chance to watch.

Oh my god just watch it

No more posting about "I think I'll be disappointed". You're cut off until you actually see it
