Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Osage County was a beautiful train wreck. Surprised by the harsh critical reception, and I already know that plenty of viewers won't like it because it's one of those movies where "nothing happens," but I did.

The knocks on "overacting" and it not steadily transitioning from stage to screen were both unwarranted to me. The term, "overacting," makes it seem like critics don't believe this to be a plausible family dynamic, or that people can't really be that manic, etc. For me, that's ridiculous and irresponsible/insensitive to assume, regardless, but I was also reminded of my own southern family back when everyone was alive and all spent time together. They certainly weren't just a production.

Being as though ATCQ is sacred to me, not sure how I feel about this... If this got off the ground, I would prefer it to go to HBO or something & treat it "kinda like" Entourage.

Leonardo DiCaprio & Jonah Hill Team With Rapper Q-Tip For Hip-Hop Drama Series
By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Friday January 10, 2014 @ 7:01am PST

EXCLUSIVE: Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Q-Tip is partnering with Wolf Of Wall Street co-stars, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, to develop a scripted TV series loosely based on the rapper’s experience during the Native Tongue era.

There is no writer yet for the drama project, which will be produced through DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way and is expected to be taken out to networks next week. Q-Tip, who has been friends with DiCaprio for a long time, is a founding member of the acclaimed hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest, which he started in 1985 with his high school friends Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White.

The drama project will draw from Q-Tip’s experiences with the group and with The Native Tongues collective that A Tribe Called Quest was a member of, which brought together late 1980s and early 1990s hip-hop artists known for their positive-minded, Afrocentric lyrics.

The show will reflect on the stories of their friendship and how their music played a part in culture then and influenced the music of today. Q-Tip is repped by CAA; DiCaprio is with LBI; and Hill is with WME and LBI.

DiCaprio and Hill currently star in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, which is nominated for two Golden Globes on Sunday, best film – comedy or musical – and best actor, DiCaprio.

I wouldnt say "nothing happens", I mean they freaking tore an entire family apart in 2 hours...what more do people want?

I know some people said the movie felt claustrophobic because the whole movie took place in that one house but I was right at home with it. It actually kinda reminded of some Everybody Loves Raymond episodes where the entire episode takes place in one scene and just centers on one big argument and they spit out jokes off each other for 30 minutes.

I did feel that some of the monologues (I remember Juliette Lewis' in particular) were a little bit too theatrical and probably could have used some tightening up but other than that, I didnt see any problems with its transition from stage to screen.

Lee Daniels as been tapped to direct the Richard Pryor bio pick which has been an on & off again affair. THR says Michael B. Jordan, Marlon Wayans, & Eddie Murphy are being looked at to possibly star.

I don't care what the critics say, I'm going to watch Osage County. Did you guys know Tracy Letts who wrote the play is a Pulitzer Prize winner who also starred as senator Lockhart on Homeland?

just finished the new carrie. wth. smh. disappointed. had such potential. i like that little girl too, hit girl. shes cute. has that legit innocent look to her. hope she gets more parts. movie was bad though as far as telekinisis gone bad. not even just the cinema aspect, but the story overall. Chronicle was done waaaaaaaaay better. happened to have the same guy from it too

I thought Walter Mitty was great. A little strange at times but also funny. One of those movies you can't describe, just have to see. Will check out Her next week

I absolutely agree, but the average moviegoer doesn't want dialogue-driven, character study-type movies where the conflicts are more everyday life and organic. Fortunately for me, that's generally my favorite kind, and why I slant heavily towards indies.

Good call on Juliette Lewis, though. Her character was clearly the outlier among all of the strong women in the family (besides the teen), but she did seem pretty overtly and artificially dramatic. Or maybe it was just more noticeable because she is totally outgunned by the likes of Streep, Roberts and Cooper.

Mark Hamill-Looking Breaking Bad Actor Jesse Plemons “A Serious Contender” For Star Wars Episode VII Lead

Jesse Plemons is, to date, best known for his role as Todd in Breaking Bad. Todd wasn’t the most delightful of characters.

Plemons himself is well liked, at least round at my place and over the last few minutes, for eliciting the Google search suggestion jesse plemons matt damon. Ha.

It isn’t just Damon that Plemons looks a bit like, however. I’ll go along with The Wrap‘s observation that he looks like Mark Hamill. I can see it. Or maybe that’s just because they said it… The power of suggestion.

Why this is a concern right now is because Plemons has tested for one of the lead roles in Star Wars: Episode VII and next week, the story goes, he will be auditioning again for JJ Abrams.

So, that’s great for Plemons but, also, to be realistic, it sounds far from a done deal.

Still, unnamed agency sources have apparently called him “a serious contender” for the part. I can see it happening.

And, now I’ve seen his face, I can see the role being some kind of Skywalker Junior. Ben Skywalker, as per the pic above, borrowed from Wookiiepedia?

Eh. P’raps. We’ll see. And I wonder, based again on a sort of facial features comparison – though one that’s now a phase removed – if this was the same role Matt Smith was linked to?

Good luck, Plemons.

I have to agree. I was a huge fan of the books growing up but I never really liked the films.
