Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Nah man, Matthew McConaughey got this thing wrapped up. Matty's scene with Leo really set the tone for the WOWS as his mentor & his work is constantly on display on HBO's True Detective, & of course his performance in Dallas Buyers Club has strong Academy support not only with the actors but across the board with the voting body from what I've been reading... :smokin It would honestly be a crime if Leo won over McConaughey IMO.

I had the same reaction as CP until Venom brought me to reality

The Following?

Yes. Is it good?

The more and more I think about WOWS the more disappointed I am honestly. Not one true scene about the victims at all or the true effect he had on them. Nothing about how he went from wanting to make money for the client to being essentialy emotionally empty and stealing from everyone. The MM scenes were essentially worthless. I have to think there was much more shot with MM. There just wasn't much meaning or depth to the movie for the most part. The second half was significantly better and the acting was great. I just don't think it's anything that will be all that remembered. I did enjoy it but ehhh. For the most part I don't think Scorsese does well in a movie without violence.

CNN shower this earlier but took it down

Here's the deal with this. The Academy prints every single nominee on a plack like that to make it easy to throw on the statue when they win. The academy hasn't voted yet on who they think is the winner yet. So every site that is running with this being the winner is wrong.
So it's like world championship winners. I wonder after the winner is announced do all of the losing plates they made get sent to 3rd world countries too like the Superbowl 48 Bronco champion shirts and caps were

Dallas Buyers Club was incredible. Easily a top 5 movie of 2013. Mud was mad good too. True Detective is way too slow for me, I just can't watch it. Leo was also amazing in Wolf, I think you have to give them both awards.

Last night, I watched one of the greatest single episodes of TV I've ever seen in True Detective episode #4. Director Cary Fukunaga & cinematographer Adam Arkapaw capped off the episode with 6 minutes of action that took place in one take. ONE TAKE. Spoiler mode below... If you watch the show & haven't seen episode #4, please do not watch. The fact they got the seen with all the movie parts in one take is astounding...

Fukunaga explains how he captured the scene in one take in the link below.

Anybody ever seen this movie called Stay before? Gosling/Ewan McGregor in it? I'm just wondering how the hell it did so bad in the box office ($50,000,000 budget to only 8m in revenue) when the story looks so good.

Spike Jonze's "Her" has to be one of my favorite movies of all time.

Absolutely brilliant.

^ I agree about Her. I hope the movie or Jonze gets some kind of Oscar shine.
The acting, the dialogue, the music, ...

Everything flowed so perfectly. I'm not ashamed one bit to admit I cried the entire last 10 minutes.

I want Leo to win over McConaughey, but I am totally content if McCon wins. He deserves it for the work he's put in all year long.

I'd actually put Joaquin Phoenix second in the race for best actor or even Chiwetel Ejiofor. WOWS was standard Leo or a performance we've already seen from him numerous times in previous movies. Among this year's candidates he doesn't stand out as the best IMO.

Edit - Yo Venom (or anyone else). Have you seen or know anyone that has seen Whiplash with Miles Teller & JK Simmons? I've been waiting for the trailer to be released but it hasn't hit "the internets" yet.

Love me a good foreign film. Had good buzz at Cannes. Looking forward to seeing this.

^^^ The basic plot outline sounds like the movie Species, but the full trailer makes it look a lot more complex than that. I'll probably check it out at some point, but its not going to be a high priority.

It's been building momentum for Best Original Screenplay so I'm pulling for it in that category. Its basically down to Her and American Hustle for the award. I'll be so happy if they win, its really one of the smartest screenplays in a long time.

just watched inside llewyn davis recently. it was cool, i liked it more than American Hustle, but i wouldn't put it above Her or the WOWS.

still need to see 12 years a slave.

It's Matthew McConaughey's or Ejiofor's to lose

It's debuted at Sundance. Got rave reviews, won the Grand Jury and Audience award. The two highest you can win.

It's coming out soon and should be on everyone's must watch list. It's like Full Metal Jacket with a Drummer as the one who gets yelled at.

I'll be really suprised if Ejiofor pulls out the upset for the Oscar at this point, the GG and SAG were big momentum shifts towards Matt. I think he'll still get a BAFTA though (unless Dern upsets him there too).

Ejiofor wins it will not be an upset. If anyone other then those two win THEN it'll be an upset
