Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

August: Osage County was INcredible. Flat out ******* real.

Anyone with a large family will sit right at that table and "get it".

Streep and Julia were in top form.

Will easily watch again and I did not expect this to be a movie I would enjoy.

I actually made bets, winning the ones I went in for, but didn't go for as many categories as I should.

Original Screen got me some bucks just now

It was rolling for a minute there...and then it just died. Ellen keeps trying to bring it back to life, but ehhh. I dunno what it is. The winners have been boring? Everything's been predictable. There's nothing to really look forward to, since we all just about know what's getting what.

:smokin

Any Oscar movies you guys didn't watch that you meant to?

Never got to Her or Llewyn Davis. :smh:

And I accept that I'm never gonna be in the mood for Nebraska, Philomena, or August Osage.

dude Nebraska was downright hilarious and a great flick
wayyyy easier to enjoy than Llewyn Davis, which drifted like a bad Sofia Coppola movie and ended like No Country for Old Men

Am I the only one finding this Oscar show really boring?
Eh, I got some good laughs from the pizza bit and some of Ellen's other comments, other than that Oscar's are usually boring. So you mainly didn't care for Ellen hosting?

No, I like Ellen. It was pretty much any time she wasn't on screen that was boring.

That clip they showed of June Squibb at the cemetery changed my mind.

Predictable as this Oscars was, probably the most I've agreed with the winners in a long time.

Still really gotta see Her.

- The Spectacular Now
- The Fisher King
- In Bruges

- Tell No One (French flick)
- A Prophet (another French flick)
- Night Watch (Russian flick)
- Outrage & Outage II (Japanese Yakuza flicks)

Edit to add The Count of Monte Cristo (with Jim Caviezel & Guy Pearce)

Again, crossed out the ones I've seen. Gonna check out the rest over time. Thanks again.

Short opinions of the last movies I've seen.

-The Fighter
Good movie. Bale and Markey Mark were both great. I loved Bale's character portrayal.
-Almost Famous
:wow: Movie was GREAT. I've been into a lot of classic rock lately, so this movie couldn't have come along at a better time. I liked Philip Seymore Hoffman's little speech over the phone at the end a lot.
-Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Pretty good. At first I didn't like the narration, but I ended up liking it towards the end. It was a lot funnier than I initially thought it would be. Another one of those good movies to watch with friends.
-Warrior
It was good. Very entertaining. I personally think Tom Hardy is a pretty underrated actor.
-The Game
Another really great movie. Probably the best movie from this batch. I haven't seen a lot of Michael Douglas movies in my time, (I think mainly because I'm too young? I've seen some standout roles though (Wall Street, Fatal Attraction)) but this movie made me realize his talent.

Onto The Ides of March, Doubt, Eastern Promises, Welcome to the Punch, and The Wackness. I've been wanting to rewatch The Shining too after seeing Room 237. So I think I'll watch that and see if I notice anything different.

If you've liked what you've seen of Michael Douglas, Basic Instinct is the movie you need to see of his.

Wall Street may be his "best" movie, or biggest, what have you, maybe even Fatal Attraction, but Basic Instinct was by far his best work IMO. (not him personally, best film I mean)

And of course, it's what made Sharon Stone famous, and for good reason I might add.

That film is so damn underrated, because it was so overrated early. If that movie came out now, it would be received much better. (Well, unless it was today's Douglas and Stone of course, that wouldn't be good. )

^^^ Cheadle's performance in Devil in a Blue Dress not only put him on the map, but IMO it remains one of his finest to date. He steals every scene he's in. If you're a fan of his and have never seen that movie before, its a must watch. Oh, and Denzel is pretty good in it too.

No don't watch Basic Instinct, way overrated movie. If you like Douglas, check out Traffic, Disclosure, Falling Down, & The Wonder Boys. If you can get over the ayo scenes his HBO project called Behind the Candelabra directed by Steven Soderbergh also starring Matt Damon was a good flick. A Perfect Murder was ok.

One of my favorite Michael Douglas movies actually predates Basic Instinct (which, IMO, is not that great and only gets the attention it gets because Sharon Stone gets naked a lot and kisses girls). Its a little 80s cheesy, but Romancing the Stone is a solid movie. I guess I'd call it an action/comedy/romance. Douglas is good as the hero, Kathleen Turner still looks and sounds like a woman and Danny DeVito is pretty funny in a smaller part.

A Perfect Murder was very good, agreed.

And I think Disclosure was the last time we saw Demi alive, not positive tho.

I forgot about Black Rain. Good 90s movie...

Also, if you really wanna watch some different flicks, please check out those foreign flicks mentioned above. They're great movies.

I did see Behind the Candelabra. My girlfriend actually put me on game. At first I was leery because I had only seen HBO OG series and documentaries, so a full length movie had me sorta :rolleyes. But it actually was really good. I knew nothing about Liberace prior to seeing the movie, so idk how accurate is or not but it's definitely an interesting movie if true.

MrO back in the cut? :wow:

Pretty sure this month or so that I've been away from NT is the longest stretch of absence since I joined 11 and a half years ago.

All I want to say about the Oscars is shoutout to American Hustle for collectively winning nothing.

Kev, I meant to @ you, aren't you a fan of Osage County????

LOVED it. Really looked like a true family, seriously. So well performed.
