Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Lord of the Rings really does suck though. I put it right next to blue people Avatar on the list of "Movies that people like just because the machine tells them that they have to like it" Tried to watch one and two on seperate occasions, could not finish either. They are that bad.

The machine?

I knew absolutely nothing about LOTR when I saw a trailer for it in front of Little Nicky, and some dude behind me was like...Damn! They making 3 of them? Must be good.

That's it. That's all I knew. Didn't pay not no mind to it, until I was at the flea market a couple years later, saw a bootleg VHS of Fellowship of the Ring there and thought...I heard of that, 5 bucks...why not? Watched it with my sis who almost exclusively likes the most ignorant ****, and we both thought it was awesome and needed to see the 2nd whenever it came out.

No machine made me like LOTR. There was no Avatar-ish, okay...I gotta keep reminding myself this looks cool, and that's the point. It was just a damn good movie, that breezed by even though it was 3 hours long. That didn't limit it's imagination by what it could show on a screen, but never stopped being grounded with real characters you knew and cared about immediately.

Every scene mattered, and every moment got nailed, and you never knew what was coming next, but it felt right. The Balrog and you shall not pass. The one ring. The ringwratiths, the elves, the dwarves, Sauron, that music, Galadriel, that orc fight. Fantasy in every sense of the word. And you believed all of it. You were right there with them every step of the way.

I'd seen Willow and Costner Robin Hood and Braveheart...and hell even Dragonheart and Dungeons & Dragons movie :x This made all of those feel ancient. It's just pure genius. When you watch it, you don't quite understand how a person or any group of people could've made it. It feels like it was always here and it'll always be here, and the next 2 never quite recaptured that purity, but you gotta be outside of your Armond White mind to not appreciate LOTR.

**** is 20 hours long and I can still get caught up watching em when they're on TBS or TNT.

you cant be serious bruh?

The way you're talking about it, that movie had to be a 9/10, and thats what I thought. The machine was the reason that I even gave that movie a chance. Everything that had anything to do with LOTR was that "This is one of the best movies ever made, it made watching movies matter, it made blind men see, I took my girl to see this and now she dresses up like smeagles for me" and blah blah blah. So one day It was on TV and I finally tried to watch it. Never have I stonefaced a TV for that long. Then when I cut if off and started to tell people about my dislike of it, it became a "You dont know what you're talking about that movie is great, your taste is bad, you have a bias towards the genre" etc etc etc. More pressure from the machine to watch it again. Then I tried to watch the second one and it was like 100 times worst than the first. All I remember is people walking and walking trees. Wouldnt subject myself to it again thats for sure.

Its ended up on my list of I will never watch movies along with blue people Avatar(If you guys havent figured it out by now I hate this movie with every fiber of my being) and The Notebook.

LOTR is dope. Annoying when people say the films were too long. The story is amazing

Is Notes on a Scandal a must see?

Idk about "must see" but it's definitely an entertaining movie for me.

My roommates and I watched it multiple times just because of how :pimp: Cate Blanchett was in the flick.

Nothing extremely captivating but Worth watching if you're bored. I give it a thumbs up for entertainment factor.

It's one of those stories you always fantasized about as a student lol

You can say you couldn't get into the movies.. but don't be an elitist and say "the machine is why people like them" because that's just wrong and attention-seeking.

There's a reason the books are beloved and so popular.. there's a reason the movies did incredibly well at the box office and are well-reviewed.. because they're that good. Not because it's "cool" to like it or anything like that... but because they're high quality.

And to be honest, people who have these kind of hard opinions on movies rarely give them a fair shake. If you went to see them in the theaters without any preconceived notions, your opinion would flat-out be different. But instead, you heard how great the movies were and everyone's high praise and expectations.. then you watched it on TV and probably on TNT with commercials  and you probably wanted to dislike it just to go against the grain. It's not your fault if you didn't see them earlier, but it absolutely affects opinion if all you hear is how great a movie is and it doesn't live up to that expectation. Whereas if you just saw them on your own, you might rank them a solid 7/10, but when you expected a 10/10.. you're going to be disappointed and unfairly judge.

Don't compare them to Avatar... they're not even on the same level. No one praises Avatar as a great overall movie with tremendous acting and nuanced performances.. it's purely a spectacle on a visual level and it does such a great job of that it overcomes the other weakness. And I can maybe understand if you're not into the fantasy genre, but this isn't like Tarantino or Wes Anderson or a very specific kind of film/style where you're either a fan or you're not.. LOTR is universal enough despite dealing with magic and orcs and what not.

LOTR is just an incredible trilogy of movies top to bottom... and I'm not even a fan of the series like that, but I still respect it. And despite how much one might dislike a movie, you have to give it your full attention and actually finish the movie. I know plenty of people who say things like "I couldn't get into it, I was playing with my phone the whole time" cut the distractions and give a movie a fair shot.

You didn't say it "wasn't a 9/10." You said it was obviously awful.

So you watched it 10 years late and edited for TV with commercial breaks that made already long *** movies last 4+ hrs a pop? And now you're mad that anyone could possibly like them? Or that they have the audacity to try and get you to like them? :nerd:

Boring...too long...overrated...overhyped...something you could only stand to watch once...those are all opinions. Saying the LOTR movies are obviously awful is just being a troll.

And all this talk of "the machine." *****. People stopped talking about Avatar, a year after anyone who wanted the BluRay, got the damn BluRay. That was hype. That wasn't real substance. It was just the shiniest new toy out for now.

You sound like you're mad that for some annoying reason, people just refuse to take you up on your offer that they wipe their *** with their LOTR box sets. It's not fair that when it gets brought up, most people say good things about it. Who told all these people to go out and read the book after? The machine. Who makes these idiots rewatch the extendeds every year? The machine. How come all these koolaid drinkers are going to see the prequels? The machine.

Why can't they let you live, Dope? Can't you leave your house without someone rubbing their Hobbit-love in your face? This is America.

Dude... Avatar went clear over your head, guarantee it.

'The machine tells them they have to like it.'

I've said this so many times about so many other things that I can't really refute it if you really feel like that. Hell, might be a grain of truth to it. Not true for me, because I'm far too antisocial and confrontational and anti-media to be told what to like, but I can see how that would hold true in a lot of cases, perhaps even Hunger Games/Catching Fire and Avatar.

Now I now antidope's been trolling this whole time with his love fest for drake and jay z.

I knew someone couldn't be that big of a stan

With respect to LOTR, those movies simply are not for everyone. I know some people that just cannot get into sci-fi or fantasy of any kind. So, if they're not into the craft of cinema itself, they're not going to be into those movies. My wife is one of those people. I took her to see Fellowship of the Ring in the theater and she squirmed in her seat and looked bored the entire 3 hours. So, she chalked it up to not being her thing and just never watched any of the others. She didn't tell me I was crazy for liking the movies.

Nah, I completely agree.

I went years without seeing Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Scarface just because I was sick of people telling me I HAAAVE to watch it, and will DEFINITELY like it.

Loved Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs was interesting, but straight up: Scarface sucks.

Come at me, bros.

Some things, no, they aren't 'for everyone'.

Man what? Is the TV version and a DVD version really going to make that much of a difference? Its the same movie in essence. This isnt one of those movies like Pulp Fiction were all the good stuff is chopped out, I'm willing to bet that everything is left the same.

Why cant I just think the movie is bad from top to bottom. Look at whats going on here, everyone is getting up in arms because I dont like this movie. That is the machine talking. Making up reasons as to why I wouldnt like it when it simply was uninteresting. Nothing more nothing less. The movie did nothing to draw me in.

The early beginnings of this thread were based off you not seeing Pulp Fiction.

How'd that work out for ya?

You're welcome. :pimp:

Shut the hell up about some damn machine. You didn't like the movie, good for you. Everyone else that liked it just fine like it for themselves, not some stupid machine. :rolleyes
