Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

good performances, rather uninteresting story that felt thrown together but funnier than expected

the costumes seemed bad to me.  I know these characters are supposed to appear sort of shabby and unpolished

but the clothes looked bad on accident (except for Amy Adams) instead of them being a reflection of the time and character

Banksy x Idris Elba x Elbow :smokin

Vid marking the 3rd anniversary of the Syrian conflict.

I've always said I'd love to see Banksy animated in the shorts or feature lengths of some sort.

I'm so glad they rebooted Spidey. Those Raimi/Maguire flicks were just awful. The last one with Garfield was flawed but so much better than the others. This one looks promising even if they aren't following canon.

I can't help but to laugh at Jaime Foxx

From Ray Charles, to Django, to.... This.

I guess you can say he's versatile now

Movie looks dope though. Can't wait :pimp:

I was very hesitant when hearing Foxx was cast but given his track record was willing to give him the benefit of doubt. If he nails this, I will be really impressed.

I remember the first time I new he could act was as crazy George on Roc, a Fox show starring Charles Dutton. His character was comical for sure but there were some tender/dramatic nuances that occurred from time to time that he nailed.

As I've professed on many occasions, I love a good doc. I've been hearing about this one for a while & was excited to finally see the trailer. Can't wait to see this.

Ai Weiwei is an artist & enemy of the Chinese state which is no joke.

We Americans take our freedoms for granted every day. I can't believe this guy lives the way he does & continues with his art/provocation under such hostile circumstances especially having a young child.

Holy God damn hell.
See...I dunno. A part of me almost hates the new Spidey movies, cuz the first was like...irrevelant...and this doesn't look like it's gonna buck the trend.

The Raimi Spider-mans...you HAD to feel something about them. You HAD to care, there was no choice in it. There are real superheroes at the movie theaters for first time. And Tobey Maguire...I can't stand that dude's face. He's such a goober. Every damn thing he's in, he's annoying and a goober (except Brothers from 09 with Gyllenhaal and Portman where he killed it). But as Peter Parker? Perfect casting. Peter should be a goober.

And I can't stand that snaggletooth Kirsten Dunst, but 1 & 2 were the best she ever was. James Franco was a beyond perfect Harry Osborn. Willem Dafoe went in...even though his costume was a joke. Rosemary Harris was so damn perfect as Aunt May. And Clifford Harris embodied Uncle Ben iconically. J. Jonah Jameson...JK Simmons...are you kidding me? Give up. JK Simmons' J. Jonah was on a Heath's Joker level of so completely owning a comic book role that they minus whale retire the character for a generation or 2.

The films were soaked in Sam Raimi's style every single frame. And the tone he took with the stories were so on point between real world and comic book, that no CBM has ever nailed it again. They'll either segregate the gritty/serious stuff from the wacky/jokey stuff, or they just shoot it like a sci-fi action movie that happens to be based on comic books. But it was the moments. I don't care where you rank the first 2 Spideys, or if you haven't seen em in 10 years, but I do know that you remember about 20 moments from each 1 of em.

The cage fight? "Bone Saw is ready" is the greatest quote I have heard in my life. Anything J. Jonah said. Every scene with Uncle Ben. The random cutaways to NYers talking about Spidey. Bruce Campbell being awesome. Tobey's "I'm hurt" face. The cafeteria. The dinner with Norman. Willem Dafoe telling the whole movie to hold his ****. Macy Gray still existing. Norman telling Pete not to tell Harry. When Peter told Aunt May he caused Uncle Ben's death. The upside down kiss. Doc Ock vs. the doctors. Alfred Molina being awesome in general. Peter delivering pizza. Aunt May at the bank. The train fight. The car through the cafe window. The whole ending to SM2. That brave new world cgi. Jokes that worked, and a whole cast that worked together.

I haven't seen the originals in years. But I know everyone remembers most of the those. And don't get me wrong...the 3rd one is a crime against hope. But I can't stand the 2 main leads of the Spidey movies, and I loved those flicks. Watch the first 2 again, and notice all the little things they do.

These new ones... Casting Sally Field and Martin Sheen is a joke. Sally Field is always just Sally Field. That's Forrest's mom. And Sheen...that's the former president of the US, that ain't Uncle Ben. **** you. And, for me, when you don't have a real Aunt May or Uncle Ben...your Spider-man is soulless. Now, I like Andrew Garfield. I just want him to be in something other than this role. Andrew Garfield would've made a better Harry Osborn. He really is too cool and confident to make Spider-man make sense. Aaron Johnson's Kick-*** was a realer Peter Parker than him.

It feels like they wanted to make a SM that people who hate comic books would watch and ended up just making a sci-fi action HS movie with Vampire Diaries in the middle. And every other scene is so blah. We got spoiled bad. Sam Raimi never wasted a minute of his movies, and put his personal stamp on every scene. ASM is so generic and forgettable. And the story was weak. And there's no Aunt May or Uncle Ben. And the bad guy was something you were already forgetting before it was over.

I will say this much. From what I've seen, Sam Raimi would be proud of their Electro. Jamie looks ridiculous as hell, which is perfect Raimi, but sticks out like a sore thumb with fugazi Raimi. And having Oscorp be the one size fits all for all the forgettable and repetitive origin stories of the bad guys, is a good look.

But it seems like Andrew Garfield's still doing his Al Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon. And I respect not even trying to live up to Dafoe's Norman, but having Harry go from intro'd to Goblin in 1 flick... I see a lot of special effects and think...that's a cool video game, but where's the soul of the movie? Is it just gonna be dance around the action, big cgi...oops Gwen Stacy, the end? And now there's gonna be 4 or 5 or 6 of them with side-quels for Venom and friends?

I like Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone on screen. A lot of people said Emma should've been MJ cuz of her hair color, but she shoulda been MJ cuz of that kind of charisma she has. It's a testament to how good she is that she makes Gwen works, but all the things she's the best at are MJ. And let's be honest, Her whole career...she's the Kirsten Dunst we deserved. And while she's on screen, I can just enjoy a teen flick starring the two of them,...until Spider-Man things need to happen and it gets irrelevant again. The problem isn't that they rebooted it too quick or the that the fight scenes and cgi needed to get better. It's the characters and the story and the moments that are few and far between and his voice and the feeling that you are not in confident hands that had anything special to really say at all.

So yeah, my expectations are Transformers 4 level. It looks cool, I guess. Maybe I'm just jaded.

see when you're typing...just the little box...but then you hit submit and like... :nerd:

Raimi/Maguire get the yuck face for those Spidey flicks.

Enviromentalists should boycott Raimi & Maguire for the carbon foot print those movies have made. Unadulterated trash IMO. They shouldn't allow Raimi to make another film again.

I do wonder what would've happened if the Spidey rights reverted back to Marvel & then followed to Disney...

This **** is why you need to not ghost on us again, feel me?

And my man, can we watch the sequel 'fore you dismiss? Please?

You got any thoughts on Star Wars 11? Won't be out til 2026, but hey, let's shred it early anyways.

In a month, let's compare where Spidey is, and might be headed. Let's see if some pieces mesh better than we expect.

The Spider-Man flicks were more like a visual comic book, with all the trademarks of a comic book, animated characters, exaggerated pose like movements, generally over the top.
The amazing Spider-Man films are more like movies; cool characters, dialogues generally more what people are used to.

Comic book fans will love Spider-Man because its what they expect Spider-Man comics/cartoons would look like on screen, down to the casting, they did an excellent job with the casting(save Franco, I really don't like his face, same in every movie).

Everyone else likes the amazing Spider-Man because its a damn good movie. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have great on screen chemistry. Jamie I'd going to kill it.

I like both.

:nerd: I'm not quite sure what ^ is, but I'm interested.
^^^Sounds like it could be a more mature, sports version of Entourage, which would be awesome.
Yeah...this could be awesome.

And it probably wouldn't get cancelled because the NFL started crying. :smh:

American Hustle, what'd y'all think?

American Hustle's a lot of fun. The first hour takes a while to get going, and it's basically just a mediocre Scorsese flick. But suddenly it's funny scene you never could've predicted after funny scene, and the movie takes off. David O has such a cinematic sense of humor. Something about the way he sets his shots up. Sometimes they won't even say anything, but he'll let you stare and sort out the ridiculous thing that just snuck into frame. He's really good.

It's just...because he doesn't exactly gaf about the story, and instead just goes for the interesting and weird and explosive ways these characters can rub up against each other, things don't exactly make sense. Or at least...seem like such a big deal once the movie is over. And since the story kinda doesn't matter, it kinda makes the characters a little hollow? But they're fun...and funny. Everyone brought it and the last hour is pretty damn good.

>D See...you're acting like it didn't say final trailer on there. Or that they didn't just show the whole movie.

Sony always overdoes it. I remember before ASM1 came out, someone went through all the promotional material both here and internationally for ASM1, edited all the unique shots together in the obvious way the story seems to go, and made a 23 min cut of the film, before it even opened in theaters. I saved it til after I saw the movie, cuz that's overkill. But it was legit...it had every moment in it, and a ton of the dialogue. And even Marc Webb had to comment on it.

Now, Jamie Foxx seems like he might be doing something really interesting there. But when I say, at this point, I've seen enough of ASM2 to tell you it feels like that soul I'm looking for probably isn't coming...it ain't a magazine cover of Quicksilver. And at this point, I've kinda removed Emma and Andrew from their characters, as just being their own little romcom separated away from whatever these characters should kinda be.

Even if I thought the Raimi Spidey movies were terrible, which I don't (except for 3 - that one is a disaster no matter how you slice it and despite the thing I have for Bryce Dallas Howard), I would still feel like the reboot came way too soon. Just screams of a Hollywood big studio cash crab. For that reason, its a little hard for me to judge the ASM movies completely objectively. I thought the first one was ok, but I had a been-there, done-that feeling throughout. I'll give the new one a chance, with low expectations, and maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

A more mature, sports version of Entourage?

So it's Arli$$?

Sort of, but with a player as the central character instead of the agent. Arli$$ was a good show, by the way. I'd be happy if this new thing is Arl$$ 2.0.

:nerd: What in the hell...this is real?

...

Now, that's a cast:

EXCLUSIVE: True Detective star Woody Harrelson has joined the cast of Triple Nine, the John Hillcoat-directed heist thriller which begins production this summer. Open Road Films pre-bought domestic distribution rights just prior to Berlin and has pledged to give the film a wide release next year. Harrelson will play Sergeant Detective Jeffrey Allen, the uncle to the cop played by Casey Affleck. Those two meshed together well last fall in Out Of The Furnace. Harrelson joins Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Fruitvale Station’s Michael B. Jordan, Breaking Bad and Need For Speed‘s Aaron Paul, Warm Bodies’ Teresa Palmer, and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman in the Batman Vs. Superman film). Matt Cook scripted the thriller, in which a crew of dirty cops is blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down”. Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack, triggering a breakneck, action-packed finale filled with double-crosses, greed and revenge. Worldview is financing and the film is produced by Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin, Keith Redmon, and Bard Dorros, along with Sierra/Affinity. Paul Green is exec producer. Harrelson, who is finishing The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, is repped by CAA.

And this feels like someone had too much fun with a dartboard:

Universal's comedy will star Amy Schumer, Bill Hader, Brie Larson and Colin Quinn

Fresh off her unrecognizable turn in “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” Tilda Swinton is in negotiations to co-star in Judd Apatow's next Universal Pictures comedy “Trainwreck,” TheWrap has learned.

Universal optioned the rights to the project from Schumer in August 2013, and since then, she has been developing the script with Apatow, who is also producing through his Universal-based Apatow Productions.

[Update 3:35 p.m. Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi ("Captain Phillips"), comedians Mike Birbiglia, Jon Glaser and Vanessa Bayer ("SNL"), pro wrestler John Cena and Tilda Swinton's "We Need to Talk About Kevin" co-star Ezra Miller are also in various stages of negotiations to join the cast of "Trainwreck," as first reported by Variety. TheWrap's earlier exclusive about Tilda Swinton is below.]

Wut.

You leave James Franco alone, damn it.

Woody Harrelson has a documentary that he hosts that's about the media and its BS on Netflix titled Ethos. It's a little libertarian but a decent quick watch.

When I last heard about Triple Nine, it was Blanchett, Jordan, Affleck, Ejiofor and Waltz...

Now, no Waltz, and Harrelson and Paul have been added?

Think I would have preferred the first list.

Uh, oh. Love me some Ari Graynor, so I might actually have to check out her sitcom version of Bad Teacher on CBS. They got Kristin Davis too, who was always my favorite from SITC. Might be ok.
