Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Did not realize how big the movie Frozen was. Holy **** that movie is doing numbers with the DVD's sells on the first day and the soundtrack is still on top of billboards

I havent watched it yet, is it really that good? I love movies like it.

I watched Captain Phillips last night I was not entertained. I didn't get to finish it but from how much of it I did watch it seems that once again the machine has chosen incorrectly.

Frozen is solid. The music is really good, the story "twists" are refreshing, and there's some really funny parts, but I'm not dying to rewatch it like I am with Pixar movies.

my gf loved it, I didn't care for it at all. Some funny lines here and there + decent animation but not my cup of tea

I'm truly surprised by how many of you have actually seen/watched all those animated movies outside of with your kids or what not.

I've only seen a couple, but only because I have a daughter. I never watched Toy Story 1 or 2, but I saw 3 when I had a little girl pining for it.

I think I own just about every animated film to ever come out thanks to her, but I haven't watched more than a couple, but the last couple days, I've seen some of you guys comment on multiple Pixar/Disney films, and I would not expect that.

I grew up on a lot of the Disney/Pixar films so i feel this inclination to watch most of them as they get released
I heard frozen on the radio

I agree with you here. I fell asleep during it. Yeah, I had been burning all day that day and was tired to begin with, but there wasn't much there telling me that movie was worth staying up for. Hanks is so overrated.

Frozen selling well huh? *Goes to look at Disney's stock*

You need to start. I dont think I've ever seen a Pixar film that I didnt like. The worst of them all was Monsters Inc and that movie was really good.

I think it's more surprising you haven't seen all of the PIxar films or other highly regarded animated movies to come out.

They're great movies in general.. they just happen to be animated.

So you haven't seen The Incredibles, Up, Wall-E, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo? That's surprising.

Finding Nemo made me cry :nerd:

Wall-E is my second favorite animated film behind Toy Story.

Toy Story was so brilliant man, I'm glad that came out when I was a kid.

I've seen part of Monsters Inc and part of Nemo (daughter), the rest of those I absolutely have not seen. (she has them, but doesn't watch as often)

I've watched a little bit of Tangled with her. Toy Story 3, maybe another 1-2 I can't think of.

My wife is a huge animation fan, she has everything. Her and my daughter watch everything. I'm just not interested in the animated movies.

Shrek, I've seen those of course. (daughter)

When I last heard about Triple Nine, it was Blanchett, Jordan, Affleck, Ejiofor and Waltz...

Now, no Waltz, and Harrelson and Paul have been added?

Think I would have preferred the first list.

I agree, but even so.
What. A. Cast.

It would be a shame if Waltz is truly not going to be in it but regardless, I thought that OG cast was ducktales because it seemed too good to be true... So for it to be 90% correct is still pretty damn impressive.

I hope the script allows them all to shine, especially MBJ. It would be a shame if the story underwhelmed with such a stellar cast.

Pixar didn't start making movies until I was well into adulthood and I've been watching and enjoying the Pixar films from the beginning, before I had a kid of my own. Like Big J said, they're good movies, period. Not just good kids movies. Kenneth Turan, a critic who writes for the LA Times, has said multiple times that Pixar movies are the closest to a sure thing there is in Hollywood and I agree with him. There isn't a single Pixar film that I don't consider at least good and some of them are excellent, Oscar quality work, like The Incredibles, Wall-E, Ratatouille and TS3.

As for Frozen, I thought it was decent, but didn't love it. Like I said in here right after I saw it, its pretty much an animated Broadway musical. So, since I'm not really into Broadway musicals, Frozen didn't quite do it for me.

We're trying to have a discussion here, DCAllAmerican 2.0... let's not go there.

It's pretty close-minded not to be interested in animated movies, you're doing yourself a huge disservice.

What is the appeal?

You are in your 20's, I believe, what appeals to you when one is in the pipeline, you read about it, etc, what grabs you? Visuals, story, voices, what is the hook?

A good movie is a good movie regardless if it's animation or not. Pixar is a great example of that. Great stories, characters, etc. My wife & I have seen a good portion of animated movies before our son was born. If you're a movie fan & you don't watch these flicks, you're missing out IMO. I love Up & Walle for the story the movies tell & the characters. Both were very moving especially UP & the montage showing Carl's history. It actually got me chocked up in the theater.

Interesting factoid per Box Office Mojo. Total sales globally including dvd & blu ray sales.

Pacific Rim – $411 Million
Superman Returns – $391 Million
Star Trek (2009) – $385 Million
Batman Begins – $374 Million
X-Men – $296 Million
The Fast and the Furious – $207 Million

Animated films are nice chill experiences for me. Sit back, nothing heavy, no need to deal with possible bad acting, just a decent script, some laughter and cool images. I really don't check for animated films outside of Pixar though. That crew is amazing at what it does.
