Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

paranomarl activity mark ones was pretty decent. refreshing new cast and scenery. the cholo act was bit over the top during some scene

Got my girlfriend to watch Kill Bill over the last 2 nights and she enjoyed them. A lot :pimp: Now she wants to watch other Tarantino films (already seen Django) :pimp:

definitely was late to the party, but this is in now one of my personal favorites. easily.

Refn is :pimp: :pimp: :pimp: , as usual

and Hardy. Wow. His voice acting is always awesome and the physicality of his roles are always :wow:

Bronson :pimp: :pimp: :pimp:

Hardy with a truly masterful performance, knew he and Refn were special after that film.

I'm just going to forget Only God Forgives ever happened

Might be wife material.

I know I'm in the minority bc I was completely enthralled by Only God Forgives
To me it was as good as Drive, it just took the concepts in Drive to another level
The limited amount of dialogue, iconographic shots, existential themes.
It definitely went all the way left with it
The colors alone were awe inspiring for me

I dig this quote by Refn
"Silence is cinema! We are so used to sounds; we're always talked at. Silence is very rare for us for a long duration of time. It makes people very uncomfortable. But what it does, it also forces us to perceive on a much deeper level because we can no longer just be told things..Silence is like gold. It forces the audience to engage more, because they're not being told what to think."

Anybody know what Martin McDonaugh is up to? Movie wise... i know he's very involved in theatre
To me, no one does "black comedy" like the Coens, or Tarantino, but this man has put out 2 movies that make ME think he is just as skilled

Listen, the colors and cinematography were amazing, so many beautiful shots but the acting/writing/character development were all trash.

Like the story itself just wasn't good at all, he got it perfectly right one Drive but not on Only God Forgives.

Godling playing such a vulnerable character was really cool
Chang was really great to watch, omnipotent n all
I thought the mom did the best job, she was so wicked it was captivating

only acting that distracted me bc I deemed it "bad" was Gosling's brother that got killed
and the only bad example of writing i remember was the unintentionally funny "Wanna fight?" by gosling

that's like... my opinion, man

Only God Forgives had so much potential but I'll still take that over any Michael Bay flick with the exception of The Rock but only because it had Sean Connery. :rolleyes

This made me smile lol. I woudln't call him that, but that is a good nickname, we'll see how his career goes.

Only God Forgives would have been better if not a single word was said. It was interesting but some of the scenes were so poorly acted. Could have been much better

am1x90 please watch Place Beyond the Pines and revel in His holiness
Just be sure to turn it off when the moment comes. You'll know what moment that is when you see it.

Oh no, I've seen Beyond the Pines and Drive, I'm a Ryan Gosling fan, I just never heard anyone call him "Godling" maybe that was typo, if it was, it's a good typo, and the way his career is looking, it's a nickname that is going to stick.

My biggest problem with Place Beyond the Pines is that everything in the first act...only happened in the first act. So it kinda peaked early. And that energy was missed for the whole middle and some of the end. The best way the film could've worked is if it was cut up and jumped here and there, leading up to the peak, instead of just walking in a straight line. Kinda the same way Flight peaked early.

But what really dropped the movie imo was when I watched this best foreign Oscar flick from 08 called Revanche a few months later, and realized, Place is a remake/ripoff of it. And I don't really understand how no one even talked about it, cuz it's not like the movie was 10 or 20 years old or that it was super-obscure. It got nominated for an Oscar a few years ago.

But yeah. Watch Revanche. I think it's actually a better movie. All the weakest parts of PBTP were the things they added to not look like a straight ripoff. But that first act of PBTP was great, and Gosling and Dane DeHaan were really good. And my dude Remy from House of Cards had a nice little part too.

I mean...tell me if any of this looks familiar:

Is one of you guys a TSA screener at BWI? Because I just heard one talking about the Bay TMNT movie. Probably not, but the timing is kind of funny.

I saw The Great Beauty and loved it. I love italian films because a lot of the time I have no idea what they're about
laugh.gif
that was a joke to myself because I'm studying italian films right now and been going through Fellini and Rossellini's collections. I went in with the same mindset of 8 1/2 which is Fellini's 8th movie he made but since its main character is based off Fellini himself and his troubles as a director he called it half a movie. troubled director (Fellini) directing a movie about a troubled director (Guido) directing a movie. inception
laugh.gif

anyways going with that mindset I kinda hoped Jep in The Great Beauty was somewhat a reflection of the director of Great Beauty

my favorite scene where Jep ethers that woman at the dinner party, sheesh I almost wanted him to stop

and the little girl painting.

I've never seen 8 1/2, but i'm interested

this movie is just straight up gorgeous from start to finish

i just did some screencaps of all the suits on my blog today

I get it now....I get it...before people would post "Why are they ruining this" and I would be like, calm down, it hasn't come out yet, it's not that serious, I'm sure it will be good, You're stupid...but I stumbled upon something that literally made my bones chill.

Richard Pryor Biopic

http://splitsider.com/2014/01/richa...-marlon-wayans-michael-b-jordan-eyed-to-star/

Marlon is the best choice, B Jordan won't work, nothing worse than an actor attempting to do stand up. Personally I'd prefer Wyatt Cenac or Jay Pharoah.

They'll get my $6.50 and an additional $10 for the dvd, but, as it stands right now, I will not be happy about it, purely respect. I hope they make a Redd Foxx biopic and get Hannibal Burress...

Ya'll are racists if y'all focus on skin color. There, I said it.

Biopics are so tough because you have to portray a legend. Pryor is a legend, it would be impossible to find someone that can act as naturally funny. I think the most important factor when doing a biopic is how much they look like the original person. You're so used to seeing this star so when you see someone that looks nothing like them, it's already ruined.
