Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Lack of education is definitely the "issue" in that article. I took film classes in college where we studied the techniques, form, and technical aspects of filmmaking... then more classes where we interpreted those things and saw how they influenced the themes, heightened the dramatic moments, and revealed more about the scene than you realized.

Had I not taken those classes, I might not have even been exposed to those things until much later.. if at all. Or I would have read something about it but possibly skipped over it. Obviously, you don't need to take college film classes to understand these things.. but the information is out there.

I tried searching through the thread but couldn't find it.. but at one point I posted a bunch of links trying to explain various techniques and elements like different shots, angles, etc. and what it all means. I did find something about lighting that's pretty interesting.

I think the technical aspects might seem boring to some, that's why people don't care. But it's interesting to notice and be aware because it can still influence how you view and interpret the movie... even if you don't realize it.

Just finally saw 21 Jump Street with my girl last night.

Honestly did not expect it to be that funny.
We were dyinggggg.
Ice Cube
The chemistry between Tatum and Hill was awesome. :pimp:

Now I can see why a sequel was made.
Excited for 22 Jump street :pimp:

My wife loooved 21 Jump St & can't wait for the second one...

I laughed so hard at this scene that my ice tea flew out of my mouth when Cube was yelling at them... Just the absurdity of it...

STUPID funny.

I get people complaining about it not being anything close to what the original series was; I get that, totally. But just as a movie, pretending I didn't know the title, or pretending it was called something else, that's a solid flick.

I remember you posted those links in here for me early on. I was asking about a word you and O kept using, I think about a camera angle, or a camera shot, and you posted 3-4 good links to ways directors shoot shots.

My guess would be within the first 50-75 pages, but I know the early part of this thread is doubled up a lot from the switch.

Yeah, I spent like 10 minutes trying to find it and I was searching anything I could think of.. and no luck. I think we also lost a bunch of pages because I should have found it from my search.

And I loved 21 Jump Street.. it's one of my favorite comedies the last 5 years easily. They managed to blend a high school comedy with a buddy cup movie and parody action movie cliches and tropes. It's damn impressive.

Favorite line has to be when they're planning the party and they go to the evidence locker

And that first scene in the high school parking lot rings so true.. there's such a disconnect and "what the hell is that" when you look at high school cliques and attitudes now from back in the day.. even if it's just the late 90s early 2000s.. so much has changed.

Over the weekend I got thru Anchorman 2. Ummmm.....yeah. I liked the cameos at least, but very, very, little else.

Rewatched the Raimi Spiderman, plays well still. DaFoe mostly. I was interested in hearing all the diff names I never knew, like Dr Connors, and Flash, etc. I didn't even know what those meant back then.

Saw the 300 sequel.......I think I liked it, but I'm not sure, because the only thing I seem to recall is how amazing Eva Green is. Like, really amazing. Which is funny, because I was not as impressed with her when she was in Casino Royale. Boy did I whiff on that one. That girl is insane hot. Never have I wanted to get sliced in half by a sword in my whole life. Gracious.

My brothers, who both love the 1st one (as I do), said the exact same thing about 2. Disappointing, but not really surprising. Out of curiosity, did you watch the theatrical release version of 2 or the extended edition with all the extra jokes?

^^bRO you should watch The Dreamers. good watch and shes naked for half the run time
one of the sexiest girls in hollywood yeahhhh

Man, I just realized I have Man of Steel, Carrie, Iron Man 3, Les Mis, and The Wolverine... and haven't watched them yet.

Oh, and Frozen. Watching that tonight w/ my girl and my lil dude, though.

Not really asking anything. Was just looking at my DVDs and realized that, because I got them and then put them away alphabetically... and forgot. *shrugs*

Actually, I do want to ask something.

First Class

Days of Future Past

Origins: Wolverine

X-Men

X2

X3

The Wolverine

Chronologically (according to the story, not according to when the movie came out), is that right?

First Class
Days of Future Past
Origins: Wolverine
X-Men
X2
X3
The Wolverine

I "think" that Origins Wolverine would be #1, ahead of First Class. I think. Because he's in First Class, and already known about in that film. But Origins, is, Origins, as in he went from a boy, to a soldier, to his being changed to Wolvey. So I think that would be first, in a chronological sense, even tho it's probably wrong era wise.

I think I just confused my damn self.

Not sure. Whatever I had, but no idea what version it was.

I mean, I laughed at a couple things, a chuckle or two, but really, the only part I "cared" about was the fight with all the cameos.

Actually, you're right. Totally forgot, he is in First Class.

Origins: Wolverine

First Class
Days of Future Past
X-Men
X2
X3
The Wolverine

Someone told me the newest Wolverine is set AFTER X3... and that just doesn't make sense to me at all.

I would think it would be after Future Past and before X-Men.
