Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Apparently the characters break the 4th wall in the Jersey Boys stage show, so I can see why they used it from that standpoint

Hol' up, just heard a piece of a trailer for Transcendence, where I heard Morgan Freemen say something like "... the end of a primitive, organic life, and the dawn of a more advanced stage. Will this transcendence be mankind's greatest achievement, or his greatest threat?"

THAT'S what Transcendence is about? Sign me up!! Lego!
Bruh, I think that was the ending to a into the Wormhole episode. Least I saw him say the same thing when I flipped on Nat Geo one day  I hate the concept of Transcendence. All that does is keep consciousness/spirit stuck in a machine incapable of experiencing the other dimensions.

So I'm pretty far away from the t/v and at like an acute angle so I'm basically at the side of it flipping through the guide looking for a movie to watch. I think I see something that says Motel For Drugs so I'm like oooh I never saw that before. Takes me like 3 min to realize I'm watching Hotel for Dogs. :smh: @ me.

Is Jersey Boys really based off the play? Cuz I remember commercials for it and they were singing songs and it looked pretty bad, pretending to be in the 50s in a bad way (as I think most plays are bad and not worth the time). *Goes to watch trailer now*

Cold in July looks dope. Although I've seen Michael C. Hall play a ***** and a lil ***** in a few other movies first since Dexter it's hard for me to accept and believe that he is when I see him in other stuff now, especially if his son is threatened. I'm just expecting Dexter to put on the thermal and gloves and go to work

Also as far as that complaint goes about it being 1989 Texas and the music being techno that's just the music chosen for the trailer. Music is only suppose to apply to the period the movie is set in when the music is played within the story like if a guy turns on the radio it should be dated in that time. A trailer can have w/e soundtrack or score the director wants. Not seeing the hipster hate there.

Well not really. Consciousness in a machine leads to immortality. With that in mind you could live long enough until technology reaches the point you can put yourself in a body that is capable of experience every single dimension or at least theoretically that's how it goes.

They actually covered that part of the concept in a Through/Beyond the Wormhole ep  Think it was the one dealing with how do we live on after the world ends or sun dies out, the whole moving to other planets, adapting to the environment, and transferring your mind in a machine like body was an alternative.

EDIT: I'll catch Jersey Boys just for Luciano and Walken now. I get it though, period piece about an important music group like the others before it.

But yeah...it kinda, feels like settling. The opposite of ascending or enlightenment. You don't discover more, you just coldly get everything, and lose humanity. At least Dr. Manhattan got to fly to Mars and create life.

I really hate to admit this, but i`m watching Grown Ups 2 and I`m laughing. Shaq is hilarious.

So, my wife and I hated the first one. Our daughter loved the first tho, so she was excited for 2.

So, anything for the princess, we sat down and watched it. I have no idea how, or why, but we both enjoyed it.

It's just.....mindless, entertainment. Like a town anyone would want to live in. Iono.

I felt the same way with Sandlers Just Go With It. I can watch that multiple times and enjoy it.

I put this in the same category as welcome home Roscoe, basic story, poor acting (they can do better but they're clearly not trying) but the chemistry and random one off jokes between the cast is hilarious.

Finally caught up on Silicon Valley. I like it. Its pretty much the nerd version of Entourage.

Crown Me the Late Pass King but Breaking Bad :smokin :smokin :smokin :smokin

I went on a binge and that series was amazing. I'm ashamed that I didn't drink the kool-aid when it was available. The storytelling, the writing, the action, it had everything you could want from a show.

Is the new Captain America flick really that great? Somebody please explain the hype
It's a really good movie. I enjoyed it. I wouldn't throw around great, but it was good. People always want to say great, epic, etc. But I'm not a prisoner of the moment, but your money wouldn't be wasted if you went to go see it.

Better late than never

It's one of the best superhero movies the last several years. I've seen plenty of rankings having it behind only The Avengers and Iron Man as the best Marvel superhero movie.

It's also just a well made action movie. The action and CGI is great, the story and content is relevant (the cost of freedom, government surveillance and power, etc.). It's got some laughs, pretty women, it's got Anthony Mackie (WE MADE IT!!) It's a really good/great summer blockbuster.

Review: Locke - Tom Hardy has never been more compelling, as we watch his life crumble from the driver seat - http://wp.me/p2CCWq-3Ai

Hardy is becoming a great actor. Could be the next Brando. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be remotely interested a in a Mad Max reboot but the thought of what we could see from him in this role is exciting. I look forward to seeing his new work.

Yeah. Like...every MCU movie has felt disappointing or like leftovers except for IM1 and Avengers. Thor had the worst effects for a CBM outside of Green Lantern. Dark World was pointless. IM2 & 3 lost almost everything that made IM1 special. Cap 1 was a Saturday afternoon cartoon that wasted all of its characters.

The WInter Soldier is what every single Marvel movie shoulda been.

**** actually happens that affects the whole MCU, and multiple characters show up, the action and effects are there and the villain actually matters.

It raised the bar back up, cuz tbh...I wasn't as impressed by Avengers as a lot of ppl. And after Dark World, I kinda accepted that all MCU movies were just gonna be better made and written Michael Bay flicks, from here on out. :nerd:

I honestly wouldn't reserve judgement on all the marvel movies until it's all said and done. I feel like they are building the overall marvel world arc bit by bit and you wouldn't have appreciation for individual movies until you step back and look at it all. Sort of like how people feel about season 2 of the wire when they're watching it, but when they look at the overall series, they realize it was necessary to the overall story line.

Yea...that's not good enough.

You can't tell me, it's okay if this movie wasn't much good, cuz the next moves will make up for that. So I shouldn't go see any of em in theaters? Okay.

I'm not saying every MCU movie needs to be a gamechanger, but cmon...the Iron Man sequels got wrecked by the MCU. They hired the wrong guy to direct Cap 1...so much so, that parts of Cap 2 had to remake Cap 1, to repair stuff that didn't hit. That movie was Hayley Atwell putting the team on her back from being away from being pure disappoint. And then the Thors. Thor 1 has Legends of the Hidden Temple production value, from a movie that came out in 2011. And Thor 2 meant about as much as a Marvel one-shot.

I don't think it's greedy wanting more outta them, when this is the first sequel in 4 tries, and what? 3rd solo in 7 tries, that I thought they completely did right by. That's a lotta short straws.

So you're one of those guys? That's cool. I'm not, I take it for what it is, some things you let go, other things are too big to ignore and are just horrible. But that's the overall tone with these movies. They do each one to build on one another. I'm sure you've read individual story lines in a comic but hated it, but knew it was important overall. Guess you're hard to please.

That's what you took out of that? Okay.

Yes

But we shouldn't have to sit through a dozen movies to then say "Oh.. Iron Man 2 is a lot better in retrospect" because even after seeing The Avengers, Iron Man 2 was still a let down. I get they're building towards something, that's cool and makes The Avengers more important and special, but even if Avengers 2 is awesome, Iron Man 3 still suffers from a disappointing twist with the villain and should have been better.

So yeah, the movies can and should contribute to the overall Phase story arc, I get that and it's cool.. but they need to stand up on their own.

^ I agree, all I'm saying is that from my  POV I'm not going to gripe too much. I agree about IM 2 and IM 3 though. They missed and could have been better, but I guess I don't get that upset about it. But that's me, unless they totally go left with the movies.

Exactly. If it wasn't for the MCU, I couldn't think of a good reason to want to watch IM2+3, Cap 1 or Dark World again. I mean all of em are watchable, except maybe IM2. But they're all watch em 1 time and move along movies to me. There ain't enough there that hit for me is all.
