Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

So Steven Soderbergh did something again.

Heaven's Gate has been on my 'one day' list since I first heard of it...but 3 hours for something people didn't love... >D

But uh...Soderbergh re-edited the whole movie into his own 2-hour "Butcher's Cut."

As a dedicated cinema fan, I was obsessed with HEAVEN'S GATE from the moment it was announced in early 1979, and unfortunately history has show that on occasion a fan can become so obsessed they turn violent toward the object of their obsession, which is what happened to me during the holiday break of 2006. This is the result.

You can watch it here.

'One day.'

You gotta love Soderbergh... Most directors want to put out 4-5 hour versions of their flicks, Steve cuts his down to 2. I bet it plays so much better too...

I can't get over how great Daniel
Bruhl was in Rush as Niki Lauda. He owned that role.

It made me go on imdb and search for some of his other critically acclaimed movies.

I need to see what else this man has in his repertoire. He was pretty damn good in inglorious basterds in the minor role that he had. But that's all I know him from.

If anyone has any suggestions for his films let me know. This guy showed me Christoph Waltz type abilities in Rush. It was that impressive to me. :pimp:

I'm really intrigued now in his upcoming movie with Hellen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds , The Woman in Gold.

Synopsis: Maria Altmann, an octogenarian Jewish refugee, takes on the government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family.

Sounds like a good one if Reynolds holds his own. :smile:rolleyes)

Oh snap. :wow:
Bruhl's also in a movie coming out soon with Robin Wright :smile:evil), Seymour-Hoffman :pimp: (rip...looks like the last starring role he filmed :frown:), William Dafoe, and Rachel McAdams :smile:evil)

"The Most Wanted Man."
A Chechen Muslim illegally immigrates to Hamburg, where he gets caught in the international war on terror.

Coming in September. :pimp:

What an intriguing cast and plot.
Take my money now.

Bale as Jobs would be :pimp:

Leo as Jobs :rolleyes
I can see both as Jobs but given the look I can see bale losing the weight, slicking back his hair or going bald to really match it. He also has the nose for it unlike Leo.

DDL as Jobs though >

lower your expectations for the film.

I have a lot of colleagues who saw the movie and were left unimpressed

I been meaning to ask after I listened to some podcast. Not even sure it fits in this thread since I've never watched any but whats the big deal about TED talks? :nerd:

Some are better than others, depending on what your interests are.  They usually discuss innovative topics in a way that 'normal' people can understand.  Some are better than others, but they are definitely worth checking out.

I never watched one. Didn't get the concept initially but I knew ppl kept raving about it and if you were doing one it was sort of a big deal. I just kept asking myself Ted who? Who the **** is Ted?

So hold up Soderbergh edited his own version of the movie or is he just reposting the recent edited version from '81? or 2012?

Not sure it's fair to say ppl didn't love it when there's been like industry reassessment of the film where ppl are now calling it a masterpiece. At this point it's probably best known for ruining Cimino's and Kristofferson's careers.

I almost clicked the link and watched but I want to watch the 3hr version to really judge for myself. I had only caught like one chunk of the film in the past.

I'm on my phone but this one

(Someone care to embed?)

It's Kathryn Schultz, she wrote an interesting book called Being Wrong. That book seriously changed my life.

A lot of Tedtalks are cool, especially the tech, we've been living in the future for a while, and a what's out there is scary. I don't buy into 'hype' but I generally watch whatever Tedtalk people suggest to me, some are interesting and some are not, but I watch as many as I can.

got you bro

ugh TED talks were great but they started to fall out due to them letting anybody on stage after a while. it may not be innovative at the least but it becomes a normal

This one is one of the best I've come across

3:20 is the starting spot for main kicker of his speech

Man I just watched that again for the first time. It had a way more profound impact on my mind state than I originally believed. I need to shake her hand...I will shake her hand...then WIP in gratitude.

This video explains so many of my posts, for those who find me annoying lol.

I dunno I've already started watching a few but a lot of the titles and the format just remind me of self help programs on that Jordan Belfort tip which I really don't feel interested in watching for just about 20 min.

I've mainly caught a few based off of ppl I recognize. I also have a problem of what I'm actually gonna get out of listening to somebody talk in that amount of time. Not just learn but retain. I'm not the type to come away from something saying it changed my life, it inspired me or it even had an impact. I'd lean more to listening to experts talking about something I'm interested that I want to know more about and I have the science channel and philosophy for that.

New tech and current advancements are cool to learn about though.
