Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

That Foxcatcher teaser got me thinking Carrell could play a creepy *** villain/bad guy. Serial killer, maybe the Penguin.

I think he could. I thought he was very good in the most dramatic role I've ever seen him in -- Little Miss Sunshine. I don't know about a comic villain though. Something darker and more subtle would be better for him. In fact, I think I remember reading somewhere that part of the reason they cast him for 40 Year Old Virgin is that he has the look of someone who could be a serial killer.

I just thought Penguin cuz of the fake nose he has in Foxcatcher

I feel like Steve Carrell in that kind of role would be more like Robin Williams in Death to Smoochy than De Niro in Cape Fear.

Steve Carrell...early on he showed some signs that he might really be able to have an interesting dramatic film career. A better one than Will Ferrell...on par with the best of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler even? I mean he was that guy. Killing it on The Office, putting in work in 40 Year Old Virgin and Little Miss Sunshine. I thought if he got the right roles, he could even have a shot at Robin Williams' career. Maybe not the comedic highs, but the dramatic ones, yeah.

There's something about him that's different than most comic actors. You can see the traditional leading man there. Cuz that's what holds them back. People see their kinda wacky or offbeat faces and wanna laugh, so when they don't get that, they get bored or annoyed. But with him, he can turn it all the way up like Anchorman, turn it sour like the early parts of Sunshine and all of The Way, Way Back, or turn it down and be endearing like Dan in Real Life and Virgin.

He was kinda like Mark Ruffalo mixed with Jim Carrey...but then he decided to be in all the worst movies. All of them. :smh:

I thought he'd take off once the The Office was done. Maybe Foxcatcher'll kick it off, but Iono.

You couldnta told me the "You know how I know you're gay" guy, would have a better career than him.

Have you seen Robin Williams in One Hour Photo though? Or Insomnia? I think Carrell could pull of something like that.

Seen a few not so good movies lately; Bachelorette (w/ Snaggletooth, chick from Masters of Sex, the Pam lookalike not Amy Adams, and the fat Aussie chick), The Kitchen (w/ a lot of ppl you'd recognize from network teen dramas and that chick from that 70s Show not Mila Kunis and that chick from Compliance).

I'm about to watch Killing Season just for Travolta's bad Russian accent

Yeah I think that's what ONeg meant when he said Carrell could reach Robin on the dramatic side of things.

@VenomLyrix - Have you seen the new Jon Favreau movie "Chef"? If not, have you heard anything about it? I've seen some trailers recently and it looks interesting.

Maaaaaaan, quit watchin all that worthless crap, and power thru Fast 1-6.

I know you respect ONeg and BigJ, and both of them are in full support of the Fast series, get on board with us, plenty of room. :pimp:

Besides, you got less than a year to be ready for Fast 7, which is going to be a huge draw. And I don't just mean Paul. The story for 7 is going to be epicness, and must see theater.

1 thru 6, and 5 and 6 have after credit scenes, you have to get thru those, they are very important.

 Man. Much respect for you too but I tried, I tried. I need a break just from the attempt.

After Killing Season I'm gonna watch Blue Caprice, The Family, Flight, and I might catch Pain & Gain. Good movies I hear so it aint like I'm wasting my time watching nothing but crap.

I just don't got the time or energy to try to power through FF. Maybe deeper in to the summer when I'm in the mood.

CP's doing a little too much.

The og The Fast and the Furious is a cable classic.

The quotables and thin line where you can't tell if it's so bad it's good or just so good is rare.

2 Fast 2 Furious is a shell of the first, with only half the original cast and half the charm. So bad it's kinda good. So ghetto that it's pretty charming. Not lowkey iconic like the first one, cuz they ****** up not bringing the original cast back, and the movie just flat out sucked a lot of the time.

Tokyo Drift...completely new cast (:nerd:), and not as much suck as the 2nd one. I think people were hyped when it came out cuz it was better than the 2nd one, drifting was cool and Asians were getting their props. And Han was that guy. But I saw it again after Fast Five and it's basically a straight to DVD movie compared to the first 2.

Fast and Furious brought it back. They figured out the simplest **** in film history. You have an ensemble that people vibed with and loved...you bring them all back. Not 1...all of em. So they finally did, and it felt right, like it hadn't since the first one. It's polished. It feels modern compared to the other ones, and it's a decent flick...still bad good, but some solid good in there.

Then Fast Five happened. By the time you watch the others and get a feel for what it is this series hits, this is gold standard. This one of the greatest action comedies ever imo. I love this damn movie. And what's amazing is, they take pieces from all the other sequels and make them so good in this, you'll convince yourself the whole series is better than it really is. The perfect mix of nostalgia, campiness, jokes that hit and legit unexpected ludicrous badassery. Think Bad Boys 2.

And it doesn't exist on it's own. You can't really just jump in and enjoy the 5th one right. It's holding the first one down from when you were young and never expecting it would grow with you and make the greatest comeback in film history. And at the same time...The Rock's career basically lines up with the FF movies, where it's like son...why haven't you taken over?...what the **** with this tooth fairy ****? And Vin's too. :smh:

Then the Fast and Furious Six is good. It could've been amazing, but it was just a good followup. More on Fast and Furious' level than Fast Five. It didn't flow all that well, and they story wasn't tight like the 5th one, and the jokes weren't that great.

Very underrated imo...a part of what made Fast Five such a phenomenon was the soundtrack. Danza Kuduro was that jam all summer off that movie. And Don Omar and Tego Calderon who did the track, had funny parts in the movie to. I think them and their music was the glue of that movie, so when they didn't come back for the 6th one, it was really missed...at least by me.

And now I'm doing too much. Just watch em...and if you don't wanna watch em all, watch 1, 4 and 5. That's a ill trilogy imo.

I don't get the FF love, I've seen all of them but I never have the urge to watch any again even Fast Five.

 Look at you.

Nail on the head tho, O gets it.

He didn't even reach those points I've spoken with Zik before about how they have the women who, while beautiful, aren't there to just take their clothes off, or cry over a man, they do WORK. They earn every scene. They are, the Rock, Vin, and Paul. They aren't the girls that have to just lay down for them.

On top all that, the cast ain't all white. This ain't George Clooney and all his rich white friends. They mix the entire damn cast.

They make fun of themselves, but keep it serious enough. They elevate, movie to movie. Yes, there are some reaches......ok, huge reaches, but hey, if Robots can come down to earth as Camaro's or blonde dudes with a hammer can chill on earth, let these dudes shine with their driving thru traffic backwards and what not.

This franchise is family. The only other one that belongs in the mix, is Lethal Weapon. Another franchise that kept every character, but added more to the party, each film. That's what Fast does. They add more, but keep the people that matter in the mix, any way they can.

I "think" Rock was in for a smaller role with 7, and now, I'm not sure. Maybe he steps up more with Paul gone. But even if he wasn't going to be a big part of the movie, Rock was still going to make an appearance, because this franchise is about family, real, and on screen. The loss of Paul only showed the others how much. :frown:

Well yeah...if FF hits you right, it hits you right. Like for me, I love that og cast together, and then suddenly they brought in dudes from the other ones and made them legit too. It's just a crew I wanna watch steal things, kick *** and tell corny jokes together in movies.

Same with Final Destination.

Ehhh...3, 4 and 5 are trash. They should put the series out of its misery.

But I liked the first one. And I really liked the 2nd one. That was just good fun creative horror.

I'm pretty sure the FD series is over. The last one was revealed to be set before the first one and tied in the plane crash that started the first one.

Granted they could make more, I'd need somebody else to take over directing and writing.
