I think people can and do like Gone with the Wind.. it's probably the same as other classic movies that are so absurdly praised and beloved, that you're surprised to hear people actually like them. But it's true for some, like Casablanca. That's legitimately an amazing movie, no hype or anything changes it. I love that movie.
I've also never really broken it down for a top ten. Picking and choosing would be too difficult.. I feel like I'd start to think of a list, then spiral out of control, have a marathon of my favorite movies, and wake up in a movie bender with sour patch kids, sno caps, and cherry coke, all over my apartment. Pizza boxes stacked up everywhere too.
I forget if I've asked, but JRS, have you read the book Breakfast at Tiffanys? I still love the movie (and not to evoke Ska's rampage on me) but I love the book despite how different they are. The book was one of my surprise favorite books I read in school.
I also feel like I need to get back up on my movie watching. I miss being in school where I could actually watch movies as part of my homework I might start giving myself genre assignments like Screwball Comedies, New Hollywood, or start rewatching filmographies of directors/actors/writers I love. I had a good system for awhile. One "classic/must see/important movie" and then one movie for me.. either a new release, something random I wanted to see awhile ago, etc. It was a good trade off and system. Ahh, the joys of a lot of free time and not having to work
I just don't take advantage of my free time. I need an assistant.
