Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Funny you say that, because lately, Cruise has been can’t miss.

You already mentioned the MI films, which imo are 4 for 4 in terms of solidness.

Jack Reacher was excellent.
Oblivion was very good.
Edge of Tomorrow is reportedly very good. (I’ll be viewing this weekend)

So to say, he’s the draw he once was, might be accurate, yet, some of his best work has been in recent memory. And when it’s all said and done, his resume is going to be absolutely SUPERB.

He is, quite literally a true, mega movie star. As bat **** crazy as he is, his movies forever entertain.

Oblivion was mediocre to me

But Edge honestly was one of my fav movies this year along with Cap 2 and GotG. Marketing was just awful though. I only saw it because of amazing reviews on RT and NT and it actually met and even surpassed expectations

Dude.
Just saw Enemy, by the dude that directed Prisoners. His aesthetic is so sick, man.
I'm continually in awe of Jake Gyllenhaal. To me, he is criminally underrated and loads better than Leo Dicaprio.
He's gunna be in the next David O. flick, and thinkin about Silver Lilning and American Hustle? Cheeeeeeee I'm excited.
Oh. And I'm seeing Nightcrawler just based off of Gyllenhaal's crazy eyes.

I've been saying this since Skins but, Jack O'Connell's talent is insane, he's a future Best Actor type talent.

Go watch "Starred Up."

Tom Cruise probably hand picks his roles more than any other Actor ever in the history of everness and ever was.

He plays the same role every movie now. It's either action hero crime fighter or save the Earth Scientology inspired type movies.

His favorite of mine(well one) is the movie where he is an assassin and he gets in Jamie Foxx cab and ends up saving Jamie's GF Jada Pinkett, forget the name of it. Dope dope though

^^Collateral is the name of it

Yea man! Dope movie. Repped

Also, sitting at the bar and M.I.A.'s Paper Planes song comes on the juke, reminded me of SlumDog Millionaire.

For those of you that haven't seen that movie, see it please.

The UltimateHustle/LoveStory/FeelGood/Everything movie

Score-Dope
Editing-Dope
Directing-Dope
Cinematography-Dope
Everything about the movie-Dope

It's pretty much gone unsaid that Melissa McCarthy isn't that funny right? I watched The Heat and Identity Theft just now, few chuckles.

The East was okay.

The Sessions was great  :pimp:

jack reacher was horrible. other than that tom has been on a roll.
No it wasn't.

Actually, I think McCarthy is really funny. Haven't seen Identity Thief, but the Heat made me laugh pretty consistently.

McCarthy seems better as a supporting comedic actor than a lead. She's funny but a lot to handle.

but it was. they built up the suspense and the end of the movie just went south. prisoners was the same. built up the suspense and was expecting a weebay gif reaction moment and it never came.

Just watched Chef. Such a great feel good movie, definitely one of my favorites of the year. This is my first time from memory seeing Favreau outside of Iron Man, and he performed incredibly as the lead. Movie was pretty funny too.

Note: Don't watch if hungry lol.

The Sessions is Money, for real
How John Hawkes didn't get an Oscar nom for his performance is beyond me.

It was tough that year. They only select 5 actors for the a lead actor category. I'd have replaced one of these 5 with him, but not sure which.

Bradley Cooper: Silver Linings Playbook
Daniel Day Lewis: Lincoln
Denzel Washington: Flight
Jaoquin Phoenix: The Master(haven't seen)
Hugh Jackman: Les Miserables(haven't seen)

Flight is pretty good. The first 10 minutes is very very intense. It's worth a watch for sure.

To go further on McCarthy, I found Sandra funnier at times.

I may just stick with her being a supporting character so I don't grow to dislike her completely so aint no way I'm watching those other two movies where she's the lead.

Saw Escape Plan the other day and loved it  :pimp: Felt I got out of that what I didn't from Expendables even though it was a dumbed down Prison Break on steroids/action flick. Need more Stallone/Arnold flicks, don't care if they're old.

That scene where Arnold was at the chopper  :wow:

Oh yeah what the **** was Killer Joe? :x C'mon Matthew. Good thing I didn't see that stinker back in 2011

Anybody ever seen Crusing with Al Pacino? The synopsis/summary alone had me laughing. It came out in 1980 and Al is a young NY cop that goes undercover on the "rough and tough beat" as a gay man, going to gay bars searching for a serial killer that kills homosexuals. The opening scene of that movie was too much for me  It was WILD.

On another note, I watched some of it last night and Keanu surprisingly showed really good acting skills in the Devil's Advocate. I remember really liking it but he really came off as a regular person in that.

 You felt suspense for Jack Reacher? There was no damn build up. Typical mystery murder/action flick.

But even with the ending which I feel could've been better nothing about that made the movie horrible. It definitely didn't go south.

I thought Prisoners was just good throughout and nothing about the ending really felt like a let down but I could understand ppl wanting more than just dude being left to die in a hole.

Maybe we came in to these movies with different expectations

Jack Reacher was a solid VOD rental but it had that made for TNT vibe that happened to star Tom Cruise.

Finally saw Amazing Spiderman 2.. :roll eyes It was better than any of the Raimi/Maguire flicks but still very flawed. It had some really great actors cast but the movie seemed kinda thrown together. It wasn't very cohesive for me but I was able to finish it unlike any of the Raimi/Maguire flicks .

The fight scenes looked too video gamey. Osbourne's decent into villainy seemed very rushed. Same with Fox. Paul Giamatti must've gotten a huge check to appear in this flick but it felt so forced into the story line.

When the climax occurred with Gwen Stacey, the scene didn't have any emotional weight or gravitas for me. Like a I got a little verklempt during a couple of Uncle Ben scenes in the first one but nothing in this one. In the hands of a better director, this flick coulda/shoulda been so much better. Sally Field was solid though... I like Garfield in the role & love that Spidey is the wisenheimer that he should be.
