Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

@venom lyrix - have you heard anything about The Judge yet? I'm a big fan of both RDJ and Robert Duvall, but the previews I've seen aren't getting me too excited for it. Have you heard anything good about it?

Not really - but the trailers and clips aren't doing a great job selling the film - I think it'll be one of those films with 2 big leads but just a meh product and forgotten

As usual, my opinion of the last movies I've seen.

Pink Flamingos
I think I only watched it because I had saw it mentioned in a few places, and I've never seen a John Waters film. The movie was WEIRD. And not in the sense of Lynch or Jodorowsky (whose films I actually like), it seems like it's just weird for the sake of being weird. It really reminded me of Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers, if any of you have seen that, just based on the fact that the movies are basically a bunch of senseless scenes thrown together.

The Elephant Man
I actually saw this movie when I was in middle school and liked it a lot then. I sort of wish David Lynch did more "normal" movies. This and Blue Velvet are both really great movies. He also seems to get the highest praise for these more normal ones as well. And while Blue Velvet is still sort of odd in terms of characters, it's more normal than movies like Eraserhead. I do appreciate both movies though.

El Topo
I watched this because I recently saw The Holy Mountain (I can't remember if I gave my opinion on it here, but I loved it). I liked El Topo as well. I enjoy Jodrowsky's films because I usually understand most of the symbolism I think he's trying to convey. I think the only thing that I dislike about this and Holy Mountain are the way he uses the camera, it's weird to see so many close ups that pan out in one movie and odd hard cuts, it's not bad by any means, it's just not my choice. And the acting is a little shoddy but, again, it's not too big of a deal for me.

Eraserhead
I originally saw this movie my freshman or sophmore year of high school. Back then I liked it, but I didn't really know why. I watched it this time to see if my interpretation of the movie had changed. I don't think it has much, I think the movie is a lot more sexually driven than I originally thought, but that's about it. I still really enjoy it but I recognize it's not a movie for everyone (as is the case with most David Lynch movies ).

Barton Fink
Big fan of the Coen's and the trailer said they swept Cannes the year of release so I decided to check it out. I thought it was alright. Just a solid movie to me. Nothing really spectacular. John Goodman is a really underrated actor. The ending with him running down the hall was actually really cool to me. I think O Brother is still my favorite Coen film.

Fracture
I remember seeing parts of this come on HBO or one of the movie channels a few years ago and it seemed good, finally decided to check the whole thing out, and it's a good movie. Really good for if you're just laying around or if you're with someone who enjoys that type of movie.

Wild at Heart
Another just weird movie. I'm gonna have to watch it again in the future to know if I actually like it or not. There were a lot of obscure Wizard of Oz references and I'm not sure why. I really liked William Dafoe's character a lot though, he did a great job. The scene where he seduces Laura Dern's character was so creepy but it was really well acted, it reminded me of Blue Velvet.

Obviously more "weird" or "artsy" movies this time around. There's no particular reason for it, just what I thought would be interesting to see.

That trailer for Inherent Vice was really good. Can't wait to see it.

My wife can watch Fracture, or Mr. Brooks every damn night if I let her. Love both films, but she murdered them for me.

So I just finished watching Love Ranch with Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci.

Man, they took what would've been a great movie and just straight up took a nose dive mid way through. The whole premise and build up was cool. I was liking where the story was going but then they add in this boxer and the movie just turns in to another young guy wants to bang Helen Mirren movies. Now I love Helen and want to bang her badly too  but once you've seen this done right with The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone you don't want to see it poorly semi-repeated and modernized as a subplot then main plot in this kind of movie.

Mirren did her thing though.

Joe Pesci was Joe Pesci. ******* AMAZING   Wish he was in more stuff. Kind of guy you want around just so he could curse you out

Notable cameos of Bunk and Heisenberg near the end which was cool.

My kinda girl :pimp: Mr. Brooks.

So Gone Girl, Whiplash, and St. Vincent are all releasing this weekend? Damn, I'm gonna be busy

I think Whiplash is next weekend or the 16th.

Side note: Belladonna is dope. She is so sexy to me

Edit: God's Pocket: I actually enjoyed this flick. Hadn't really heard anything good or bad just middle of the road. It's one of PSH's last movies so this added to the enjoyment for me, and not a bad piece to add to his resume. Kind of a "comedy of error" this movie was. Nice watch though.

I downloaded Love Ranch a few years ago just so I could see Helen Mirren's thangs. Just watched a few scenes.

Eraserhead is so ******* weird. That's the one with the baby that never shuts up right and the weird thing in the radiator?

Anyone ever seen this --

1000

I've heard several times that its really cool, but never have put the effort into checking it out.

Liam Neeson is back for Tak3n, (that's right the 3rd Taken film) here's the first trailer - http://wp.me/p2CCWq-3OF
I like it and I will watch with high expectations again  :pimp: Whether it's super absurd with grenade off rooftops echolocation or actually a really cool on the run action thriller.

When you think about it this makes more sense since this time someone is taken and they're taken away for good. Aint no saving this time around.

**** it - I'm in too. As ridiculous as it was, I enjoyed the second one and I'm sure I'll like 3 too. Probably won't make it to the theater to see it, but I'll no doubt watch at some point.

Peaky Blinders is officially a Netflix Original Series.

Heard about this show and I'm really interested in watching it. Season 2 premieres soon and then they will stream it immediately once the season

ends.

Netflix is doing the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel. Loved the first one, can't wait for the new one.

That's interesting.

I think that was the show I read about it not getting funding from the British side since it's an American/Britian collab.

Nice I can binge watch it from here on out.

Don't know about this though.

Koyaanisqatsi.... they showed that the first day of my intro to film class in college.. I'd say 1/4th of the kids walked out and probably dropped the class

It's definitely worth a watch and is a really unique and interesting film. Philip Glass' soundtrack is what I remember most about it... but it has no dialogue or characters or anything.

Third Person: I'm not sure if I love or hate this movie. It's done by Haggis who did Crash, and it's another interlocking plot with 3 stories that are responsible for each other but, I'm confused as hell right now, very. I have to watch this **** again.

Sign me up. I love weird/artsy films. Is it on da Netflix or Amazon Prime? I'll look it up later to find out.

Cool. Thanks Big J.
I figured it was very "artsy", but I'm ready to embrace that kind of thing in my old age. Will check it out.

I watched Brick Mansions yesterday and it was the dumbest movie I've seen in at least the past 5 yrs..Avoid that stupidity at all costs..
