Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

to the Hanks haters, you have to be mentally ill to say he isn't an amazing actor. Did you not recently see Captain Phillips?????
That movie sucked. Bottom of his catalog with that cheese bag accent. Move was trash outside of the Pirates. They were the best actors.

RIP Jan Hooks. She was part of the SNL cast from 1986-91 which along with her also featured Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, & Dennis Miller. Her more memorable characters on SNL was being one half of the Sweeney Sisters & impersonating Sinead O'Connor & Hillary Clinton.

My favorite role of her's was in Pee Wee's Big Adventure...
^^^ RIP.

Aw, man. RIP. She was a funny lady. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure is honestly one of my all-time favorite movies and the Alamo tour is one of the (many) awesome scenes in the film.

I like Hanks as an actor.
His Movie Catalogue sucks though.
Gump is hard, Catch me if you Can is hard, and that's where I stop. I did Like me some You've Got Mail and I also thought GreenMile was all hype and just ok.

Brad Pitt made like 4/5 films in a row that are all time favorites of mine. But his Catalogue is super insane. Any movie fan will easily have 5/10 movies of his as greats.

I wish Daniel Day did 2/3 films a year instead of one film every 2/3/4 years.

Is it me or is Elle Fanning like the super annoying ditzy blond air head while her sister, Dakota, for a lack of more ways to describe her the cool one? (even though she's always been way more creepy to me but still cooler now that I see her sister).

Didn't expect all that after seeing her in Super 8.

You're insane if you think Hanks' movie catalog sucks..Him, Daniel, and Denzel are the 3 best male actors of the past 25 yrs, hands down..I mean I can respect your opinion if you say you're just not a fan of his type of movies, but to say his films suck is flat out blasphemy..And Brad Pitt, who I really like, isn't in Hanks' league..

I don't know about all that.

If we're gonna talk about good to great actors in the latter part of their career having a rash of subpar movies like ppl are doing with Hanks, Brad aint far behind. He's come through with several dry performances that seem to be mimicking the stoic bland portrayal of Benjamin Button in movies like Killing Them Softly, The Counselor, WWZ, and The Tree of Life. Sometimes I think Brad got in the habit of coasting from working with Clooney in all of the Ocean movies.

I expect better in Fury but I do wonder if it just won't be a more conservative take on Lt. Aldo Raine in Inglourious Basterds.

Case Case I thought that's exactly what I said though.
Me not liking his movie catalogue but stating in my first line that I like Hanks is me saying I'm not a fan of his movies though.

If I was trying to pick the best actor, I don't think I'd pick Pitt or Hanks.
I definitely think Pitt has the best body of work, Hanks doesn't compare at all.

I know this is probably pushing it.... but this is a TV series and I am sooooo glad it is on Netflix now......

YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pitt's body of work isn't even close to Tom Hanks..His last few movies have been average at best..And like someone said earlier it just seems like he's coasting through everything in the past few years..I'm really looking forward to Fury and I hope he steps his game up..

Yeah, Pitt's best doesn't touch Hanks' best at all. Hanks has way more range. Son does comedic and serious roles really really well.

Pitt is way more character acting and it's been limited for the longest time.

As for their movies that's really a toss up but to me there's more movies where Hanks is the one that made it great than there are movies where Pitt made it a great or a must see.

Again, this isn't what I'm talking about, at all.

The deviation is comical though.

It's 100% personal preference though.

PITT> Hanks

And it's not even close. I could care less about range, skill, role, who played the character outside of their range.(in this instance, this isn't what I'm talking about)

If I was stuck with Hanks best 10 movies or could have Pitts best 10 movies, there is no way you are sticking me with ToyStory and Cast Away

Pitt peaked with Benjamin Button. I'm a big fan of his but he hasn't done too much lately. Maybe he's got his hands full at home with Angelina and all those kids. Assassination of Jesse James is piffery.

Ha, didn't know food network shows would be on netflix. I watch her show a lot. I find her attractive for some reason. Want to bang her in the kitchen of that nice house of hers while eating a steak sandwich she made me.

I hate Pioneer Woman...

With the resume thing, it really depends on the criteria you're using - pure quality of the work, box office success, rewatchability or a combo of all those. If it's just quality, I'd probably take DDL. Except for maybe The Crucible, I'd argue he's never been in a bad film and most of them have been exceptional. Yet, they haven't all been real commercially successful and, except for Last of the Mohicans, don't have a high rewatchability factor for me. In terms of box office and multiple watches alone, got to put Harrison Ford at the top just based on the original Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones, the Jack Ryan movies, etc. But Ford isn't nearly the actor some of the other guys we're talking about.

You know, looking at his filmography on IMDB, I don't think I gave Harrison Ford enough credit for quality. Apocalypse Now (small) part, Blade Runner, Witness, Presumed Innocent are all pretty damn good movies. The quality of his projects has tailed off a bit in recent years, but that seems to be almost unavoidable for actors in his age range.

I wasn't talking about just you. You bold and underlined the sentence right there. I said if we're gonna talk about this which many other posters were basically talking about with Hanks not being all that great in the latter part of his career. More than one person said as much in different ways. If you think it's a deviation I'd say you're wrong.

As far as the opinion, I don't understand the phrase "who played the character outside of their range". That doesn't make sense to me. I'm saying Hanks has way more range than Pitt as in he can convincingly portray more different types of characters and has. If skill and stuff like talent doesn't matter I don't know what we're basing this off of.

With that said I feel the exact opposite way about who is better. If we were to rank actors, Hanks would be a good deal ahead of Pitt. Whether we're talking their movies or their individual performances.
Zik, Grey's Anatomy is just a dramatic Scrubs  they ripped off a fair amount of what Scrubs was doing.
Oh wow   I wouldn't have even think they'd steal from a comedy. So they just take their comedic plots and make it fit a drama? Hack status to the max.

I never really watched a whole bunch of Grey's eps but I have watched al of Scrubs. I might check some now just for a laugh.
