Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I think the  South African accent sounds fake when people from SA speak it naturally.

Like Charlize in that Snow White movie, it was her natural SA accent, yet it sounded as if she was doing a bad British-ish Accent.

I watch O Brother alot... I love Delmar... That look of heart break when Big Dan starts beating him is priceless. Poor fella.

Finally saw Whiplash. I thought it was an ok movie with great (if not heavy handed at times) performances from Teller & J. K. Simmons. The teacher played by Simmons reminded me a lot of R. Lee Ermey's drill Sgt in Full Metal Jacket only more menacing. It was a little jarring to hear this great music being played & then halted so that Simmon's character could go off on a tangent & correct the tempo.

Also watched The Fault In Our Stars with the wifey over the weekend. I thought it was a good mainstream flick. I appreciated the performance from Woodley. The vehicle suited her unlike Divergent. In fact, it made Divergent seem even worse after having watched Fault.

Need to get my butt in the theater to see Gone Girl & The Equalizer... Pronto...

This is very interesting...

‘Drive’ Gets a New Soundtrack for UK Broadcast
Posted on Monday, October 20th, 2014 by Russ Fischer

Part of the reason Nicolas Winding Refn‘s film Drive took on an unusual life was the film’s skillful use of music. Beyond the original electronic compositions from Cliff Martinez (The Knick, Only God Forgives), the heartbeat of the very quiet film was provided by pop and electronic songs from Kavinsky and Chromatics. Music was a more important aspect of Drive than is the case in many other films, and the movie probably wouldn’t have enjoyed the same cultural impact without those sounds.

So naturally, there’s a plan to re-score Drive with entirely different pop songs. This will be (for now) a one-time only broadcast in the UK. Get the info on the new Drive soundtrack below and see a trailer for the broadcast.

As you can see in the tweet above, the project is called ‘Radio 1 Rescores: Drive – Curated by Zane Lowe.’ Despite specifying the one-off nature, the title of the show suggests there could be more of these re-scored efforts to come if this does well.

This Refn-approved revamp airs on BBC Three at 10pm on Thursday October 30. The new Drive soundtrack will feature music from thirteen bands/artists, and the music will all be original stuff. Reportedly, viewers will be able to switch between the new score and the original at will.

Populating the new score/soundtrack are The 1975, Baauer, BANKS, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, CHVRCHES, Eric Prydz, Foals, Jon Hopkins, Laura Mvula, The Neighbourhood, SBTRKT and ZCC (aka Simon Neil).

Here’s a trailer for the broadcast, via YouTube which gives you a listen to snippets of the music being used. Too bad it’s all under Zane Grey’s voice.

This is the new CHVRCHES song used in the re-score:

Man I was keeping up with that Renee news most of the day. Shocking.

Renee use to be my cutie lil white girl that would be thick one min and then thin as a twig the next. Now I can't even call it. She had a signature look with the chubby cheeks and droopy eye lids.

Part of me still can't accept it. Like I won't believe it. Might as well tell me she's sounds different too. Holding out on that being an impostor.

Now she's just looking like any other old white lady :smh:

She looked aiiright in empire records, Jerry Maguire and me, myself and irene..

Literally aiiright.. But she's she's like the large majority of white girls/people, they do not age well

And especially when you have drastic weight gains and losses like she has had over the course of her career.. Jennifer grey status

there's a difference between white women not ageing well and "wait are you sure thats the same person!?"

Fury was pretty good. I liked the cast. Even liked Brad Pitt even though he's basically Aldo Raines in this movie

Saw footage of her at the event instead of a zoomed in pic and she didn't look too different or bad when from a distance.

At the NYFF, Simmons was there, and I told him that's the closest performance we've seen to Ermey's to date. He said on set they were calling Whiplash "Full Metal Jacket goes to Julliard"

You've been getting awful touchy with people's post lately Venom... :rolleyes

I could see how Pitt's Fury role evokes his Aldo Raines character...

No, he isn't.

Just because they are two war films, doesn't mean he plays the same character. That's a lazy comparison.
I haven't seen the movie yet.. and I really need to get on that.. but I've read a couple places that it's a watered down version of the aldo raines character
