Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

People who dont like the ending of nightcrawler are soft.

You soft boo. You soft.

Basically.

Why you watch something is as important as what you watch.

i actually wish Nightcrawler got crazier than it did

I would have loved to see his character go from a sociopath to full-blown psychopath (although I'm sure some will say he was by the end)

I think that would've defeated the purpose of the movie. He was a functional sociopath, like the world we live in rewards people for being.

I think I'm soft since I don't even wanna watch it

:nerd: Fool, go see that movie.

mronegative mronegative

You got any words on Gone Girl? :nerd:

When I was done watching...pretty sure I talked or thought about that movie for 2 straight weeks.
Loved it. Even read the book.
But that was like a month and 10 movies ago.

Iono, what'd you guys think of it?

Just came back from Interstellar...some initial fresh thoughts:

- The film is ultimately about hope.

- My (initial) interpretation of the film's message is that of looking to humanity, humans, rather than machines to be the future, to create the future, or to sustain the future.

My favorite two scenes in the film:
Tidal wave scene, end scene with Murphy – “Dad’s coming back he’s going to save us”

- Anne Hathaway was a major misfire. Miscast, more so simply not good. I didn't enjoy her on screen and I haven't said that about any performance I've seen her in. Perhaps it's because she has been away for some time but she really didn't fit the part to me, her performance was ugly.

- This was another immediate thought during and directly after the credits rolled: Beautiful score, best ever in a Nolan film in my eyes (and ears.)

- While most people won’t understand a lot of the verbiage, about physics and Science and gravity, the overall message comes across and the actions do make up for a possible convoluted and ambitious plot. Now, calling the plot convoluted and the script far too intellectual for 99.99% of the planet to accurately comprehend (myself included) doesn't mean it's a bad film. It's just overly ambitious on many fronts but that's typical with a Nolan film.

- Yes this film on the surface is more confusing than Inception

- No we should not compare it at all to last year's Gravity

- As a film, it's a big, bold, beautiful one. The scenes on different planets, in orbit etc are flawless, you really feel like you're off this planet and watching another one. Was it too long, yes. Nolan and his brother obviously went for it with the script, meaning they did their research, spent countless hours with scientists and physicists to get this to sound and feel as realistic as possible. Was that the right way to go for a film like this, yes and no. You're sacrificing the connection with the audience for a sense of authenticity. That's something I think many directors, and studios for that matter would not want or allow.

- Matthew McCounaughey is excellent, so was Jessica Chastain. Both really carried the film.

More to come as I think about the film...

Some talent in this picture and I'm not just talking about acting...

mronegative mronegative well, for one, I'm married. Been with my wife for over half my life. (18 years tomorrow). Married 14 of those 18.

Gone Girl scared the **** outta me.  Came home and took away her credit cards.

Overall, in a strange, less nudity way, it reminded me a little bit of Basic Instinct. Strong, powerful, is she brilliant or just crazy, def sexy as hell female lead. Edge of seat the whole story. Woman playing a man's game, in a woman's world.

Calculating. The neighbor he ain't eem know. The backstory stuff with former flames. The money/buying. The "diary". Books like alibi's.

I LOVED Basic Instinct when it came out. Even without Sharon's gorgeous self naked 70% of the movie, the story/music of that film was intoxicating. The nudity basically "lessened" the seriousness of the film. It wasn't received well for 91-92. Woulda been better in 2015 like 50 Shades will be.

GG made this without that kind of negative blemish, and went full bore story with barely a cameo of over sexing the movie. (Great cameo tho).

Ben and Rose were terrific. Tyler Perry was great (which I didn't know could happen). The sis and female cop were well done, Doogie was, eh, alright.

"Why is she dressed like a babysitter?" Seriously had me laugh out loud when no one else did.

I loved it man. *Need to go look at all my neighbors real quick.*

Is that show Gotham pretty good? I'm thinking about getting into it.
I'm enjoying it so far.

One thing though, the show is more about Jim Gordon's rise up the ranks of the GPD and the obstacles he faced, not how Bruce Wayne came to become Batman.

Some people in the Gotham thread seemed to have the expectation that this show was about Batman's origin.

The show gives glimpses into Bruce Wayne's life and how he came to become Batman, but that is more of a subplot.

My son wanted to watch the new X Men movie... Everyone knows how much I've hated the pervious ones so much so I stopped watching the ones I attempted to start (& I hardly ever stop movies). I have say the latest one was ok maybe even slightly better than serviceable.

Singer & the producers were very lucky to have Fassbender & McAvoy. I thought their performances were the emotional center of the film that drove the story. I laughed at the Over The Hedge like scene with Quicksilver. Loved the Jim Croce song that played during it - so appropriate.

So The Affair has to be a Mini-Series.
I don't see how it could progress further than a season with this premise.
What you mean? S2: Have another affair.

Probably time skip so they can be together for a while, new family, and then boom they both have affairs

I recommend it. Starts off shaky but gets progressively better.

I just got back from Interstellar.

Absolutely LOVED it. I think anyone that was underwhelmed with the movie probably had expectations because of Nolan. My only two gripes with the film were when they first showed his daughter in the later scenes with Michael Caine's character, I thought she overacted that initial scene, but she was great otherwise. And then the ending. I thought the ending just gave a little too much. The movie probably didn't need to go that much into detail, but it still wasn't bad by any means. I loved the 2001 references throughout. One thing that really stood out to me, that I don't usually pay attention to in most movies, was the score. The score was phenomenal.

This was the first movie I've ever seen in IMAX, I would HIGHLY recommend it. I can't imagine seeing a movie like The Hobbit or The Avengers in IMAX though. I personally think the volume is LOUD, so action sequences in those movies just seem like they might be overkill for me, but I understand that's a personal preference. It just so happen to work perfectly with this because the space scenes provide a great balance.

Also watched Synecdoche, New York this week.

Really great movie. I love Kaufman's characters. PSH was so great, I think this and The Master are my favorite roles from him. I really wasn't expecting the movie to be so weird, but it was a really good weird. Any fans of Kaufman's other works should definitely check this out.

Congrats old man. :smokin

Yeah, somehow no one spoiled even a little bit of the story to me beforehand. Or that it'd be funny.

I had no faith in Batfleck or Pike or Perry. Hell even Fincher just cuz he cast them.

Amy...Nick...Tanner...Margo...Bony...Noelle...trailer park kids...Andi's tig ol's...all that movie did was give.

When Tanner said, "you 2 are the most ****** up people I ever met ," I wanted to stand up and applaud.

One of the best in years imo. It even made me read. :smh:

Leonardo DiCaprio turns 40 today. Happy birthday, Leo! http://imdb.to/1tDzg3w #HappyBirthdayLeo

HBD, Leo. I wonder how many supermodels he's going to run through today to celebrate? I'm going to set the over/under at 7.

RoboCop was an exceptional movie, my only complaints is that they never really showed Detroit in a state of turmoil like they described. Never really got a sense of anguish at all. But, action was great and his story was decent enough.

Does Gyllenhaal get nominations for Nightcrawler?

I thought he dominated the role. And he was in essentially every scene. The script was nothing groundbreaking, but he and the cinematography exponentially elevated the movie for me. He plays an obsessive personality so well.

Harry Belafonte received the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2014 Governors Awards on Saturday & gave a stirring speech. There haven't been many that exuded the class & intelligence combined with cool & verve that Belafonte has. I saw a great doc on him a few years ago on HBO that was really good, Sing Your Song. Highly recommend the doc for those that might be interested.

I've always had great respect for him for his activism because I too devoted a lot of time volunteering in my community (14 years)... I've even seen him lecture at Georgetown & Maryland in the 90s...

ONeg's man is clapping his special way at the 10.12 mark...

That's some cool a** brothas up on that stage... :smokin Will never see 2 like that in the entertainment biz unfortunately.

It's possible, the Actor category is odd this year and Nightcrawler is the type of film that doesn't really speak to the Academy but he just might.
