Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I've had the stomach flu theast couple of days. Quarentined in the basement watching HBO run thru the seasons of The Wire. This is a great show...

watched Unbroken last night...

- Jack O'Connell, please get use to seeing his face and hearing his name. He is the future of Hollywood for the next 50 years. He's 24 and already well polished.

- The film has a really strong first act, but the second half gets really slow and dull. Kills any momentum and excitement you had originally.

- Great cinematography, but Jolie really botched the pacing in the second half.
I liked the guy from the moment I saw him as Calisto in 300:Rise of an Empire. I still have yet to see Whiplash, it didn't release in OKC. I mention it because I know you were also high on Teller. Which do of the two do think is more versatile?

Imagine if Hannibal was on HBO

Probably just have boobies a lot.

I watch a lot of shows too. I think i'm somewhere inbetween 10-20 that I keep up with now. Can't wait for Banshee and Broad City to start up again in a few weeks.

Started to catch up on Vikings and Misfits. Checked out an episode of Fargo.

I need to check out BroadCity? That good?
As stupid as Bansee is, I love it.
Vikings is a bad *** story.
Fargo is genius.

Vikings and Fargo are high on my list but for some reason I keep forgetting them when I go on Netflix or Amazon

Will I be able to access The Wire in HD on-demand since I have HBO and that Premium Service stuff on the on-demand menu? Asking specifically about the episodes in HD though.

Stomach flus are the worst. My son had one last week. Don't know how I escaped getting it. Anyway, feel better, man.

Finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy

Not tryna pull an Antidope but I have to be honest I was underwhelmed.

It was a good movie, but the HYPE was so high from everyone. Family, friends, rotten tomatoes, NT, everyone's been raving about it for months...

Maybe if I would of seen it in theaters with no expectations it would of been better.
I watched it expecting the best movie ever with how high the praise has been universally.

It was just...good.
Good action, good humor here and there, good special effects.
Definitely not s bad movie by any means, it was entertaining.

But I kept waiting for something so spectacular to happen and it never did, just the usual 3rd act of a action flick and a usual ending.

Music was great, seeing my dude Chris Pratt shine is great...but movie just didn't live up to the ASTRONOMICAL hype everyone has been giving it for months.

B movie, maybe B+.
6.5/8 word to rck.
Again, good and entertaining, rocket was funny and there were some nice scenes but I don't understand what made this movie so special that some people went to watch it 6 times

I mean..maybe I'll watch it again for a 2nd time, but what exactly about the movie was so amazing it warrants 5 or 6 watches?:nerd:

Every detail. You're judging off months of expectations. Those that watched opening weekend blind were blown away. (Myself included)

The feels with his mom to start, the humor after, the right to the point stone, meet Gamora, Rocket, Groot. The humor of Rocket right away, how great Groot was, the prison scene, the walkman scene, the escape, meeting Drax and his deadpan humor, the joining together, Ronan showing up and waxing Drax, Ronan defying Thrawn who just smiles (!!!!!!!!) the gorgeous blue b*tch, the "plan", Blue Merle whistling, the space battle, just like Kevin Bacon, Jackson Pollack, the final battle, the dance, the music, the end feels, Groot saying We, uniting to hold the stone, then closing it all down, knowing a sequel is coming.

This all worked and came together perfectly. Unexpected. Just sheer enjoyment for two and a half hours. People I know that hate every movie ever, LOVED this film. Men, women, kids. No expectations tho.

You saw it five months too late.

6 times is overboard but it's up there with Avengers, IM1 and Cap 2 as my fav Marvel movies

Also exceeded expectations bc I saw it before the hype machine and knew nothing about the characters

You shouldn't have waited so long. If anything, at that point, you should've waited even longer until you forgot about everyone else's hype for it.

You ended up letting other opinions affect your judgement. One of the worst things that can happen to ruin a movie viewing experience.

Yeah, CP and Zik...you guys are right.

I think I just waited too long.
It was a good movie, so definitely no complaints about my time spent watching.
I'll def watch the sequel.

I guess it's just impossible for something to live up to that kind of natural expectation built from hearing everyone and their mamas talking about how amazing it is for the last 5 months.

I saw GotG opening week and thought it was okay. Rocket and Groot were the obvious standouts, but the rest of the movie wasn't that great. Definitely had its' moments, but nowhere near as good as DoFP or Winter Solider.

I had it above DoFP, but I think Winter Soldier is the better overall movie.

GotG was the more "fun" film, but Soldier was as complete a Comic movie as The Dark Knight.

For what LTB is saying, I saw Edge of Tomorrow months late, and liked it, but didn't go crazy for it. So I know how he feels with GotG.

DOFP is an extremely flawed movie..

My expectations were extremely low going in because of my hatred for singer.. But was entertained enough when I watched it..

But after I read someone's review on here and thought about.. The movie made no sense.. They made a huge deal in the future before sending wolverine back about how he is going to need magneto and professor x, well we all know how that worked out

Literally would have been the best for all involved if wolverine just went and got quicksilver.. Or better yet, how about he just go and quietly kill mystique himself.. Since the first 3 films still happen in this world, what positive feelings or memories would wolverine have for her

And if he really wants to make sure task doesn't get any leverage, go quietly kill him too

That's why DofP keeps getting lower on the list for me.

And yeah, I too went through not seeing a movie soon enough before the hype from everyone else made your expectations too high. Happens to all of us at one point or another.

The more I think about DoFP, the less I like it.

So I'm trying not to think about it.... because I want it to be good and to really like it. I still like it and think it's solid, but as it's been mentioned.. it's flawed

I loved Guardians... I bought into everything they were doing and enjoyed the ride. Top to bottom, I loved it. I'd probably say Winter Soldier was the better movie, but I liked Guardians more. (I still loved Winter Soldier, of course)

Best part of Guardians outside of the humor, music, and Groot was how great of a job Gunn did world building.

He nailed it and you just bought into it immediately.

I can see this.. Gotg had heart

I personally preferred and loved winter soldier more, just because I loved what they did with cap.. And was amazed that they pulled off making THAT movie (a spy thriller comic book movie)

But as a huge fan of the orignal Star Wars trilogy.. Gotg took me back to my childhood.. I had an uncle who recorded all 3 Star Wars films onto a super long VHS tape and I would sit down and watch all 3 movies straight regularly.. Then you had the touch of Indiana jones thrown in

Loved it.. Not as much as winter soldier.. But loved it

Teller as of right now, simply because he has shown us he can do comedy, drama, romance etc. O'Connell has been all drama thus far

I did love Chef. Where is The Hunger Games on that list though
