Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

How was "the good lie"?
I'd like to know as well. I had heard good things but never got around to see it at a theater. All I know is that it wasn't a horrendous "white person, saves hopeless black person" flick like, The Blind Side. And after seeing Reese in Wild, I'm even more encouraged to watch it.
I love Blade Runner... Just love it. Greta flick & great score...
When I read that this would be re-released in December I was so hyped. Then I realized that it was just in the U.K. (part of the BFI’s Sci-Fi: Days of Fear and Wonder re-releases) and was sorely disappointed. As mentioned it has great performances, very good story and the Vangelis soundtrack is excellent. Coincidentally, I was on Kermode & Mayo's YT page and finally got the answer to, whether Deckard was a replicant or not. Interesting stuff.

On a wish list of films that I'd love to see on IMAX, I think I'd put Blade Runner above 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Saw the interview .. a filler movie. Something to watch when there's nothing else to watch or to kill time.

It had some funny parts ...

Watched Man of Tai Chi the other night, very solid martial arts flick.

Keanu is actually the villain in this film, has he ever been the bad guy in any other movie? I couldn't think of one.

Also gotta say I was disappointed Iko (main guy from the Raid films) was in the movie but didn't even get to really fight Tiger, that was a super let down.

Man I just happen to come across the 1935 version of The Bounty, Mutiny on the Bounty :smh: :x Should've been called Torture on the Bounty :frown:

This dude Bligh flogged a dude to death and then flogged his dead body after before they even set sail, son was hanging dudes on the ropes in the hot sun, made one of his own officers tie himself to the top of the mast in a rainstorm, constant flogging, make a mistake about cheese he took and flogged a dude for saying he lied, it just goes on and on and on  :smh: This movie made a great case for mutiny and it aint even done yet. They aint even make it to Tahiti yet. The Bounty was nowhere near as bad as this when it comes to the treatment of the crew. They had basically already turned on dude before they got anywhere. They were straight up sailing all around the Atlantic wasting time just so he could torture dudes for like a year. I see stuff like this and realize how slavery was so possible.

Mind you this is the face of the captain:

A face only a mother can love, this dude Charles Laughton.

Don't think the 60s Brando version of this movie can be any worse than what I'm seeing now

Pretty sure Keanu has done a bad guy before. I recall him being a serial killer who was stalking someone in one flick, but I can't recall the name right now.

Edit - I was right. Movie is called "the Watcher." James Spader and Marissa Tomei co-star.

Who watched True Detectives and what you thought about the series without going to much into details?

TD is the embodiment of great TV; great premise/story line, great writing, great director, & great acting.

One of the few shows that had me actually jumping outta my seat with nervousness & excited about a scene unfolding... This happened several times.

Thanks, I never heard of it before but while looking it up, I came across this.

Looks like Keanu never wanted to do it and somebody forged his signature. :smh:

I'd say it's a must watch.

A great story with 2 fantastic acting performances by Matt and Woody.

I'm two episodes in and I'm enjoying it but my wife is not. She's bored the accent are getting to her and the constant talking without any action is making her turn away.

I've only seen the series once, so maybe I'd like it more a second time around, but as of now, not worth the hype it has received.

The show had me hooked since the jump, but after the 4th episode (the one with the long tracking shot), IMO, the story went off the rails. No doubt that the acting is superb, but from what I remember, there were too many red herrings and there were events and plot points that weren't cohesive. And honestly, I think a major reason I didn't enjoy the show is that I focused on every little detail rather than stepping back and just letting the story reveal itself.

But like I mentioned, from what I remember, the performances of McConaughey and Harrelson really masked sub-par "mystery." I'd encourage you to watch it just because it's an interesting character study. That and for Alexandra Daddario.

People over analyzed stuff in True Detective. They were treating it like the show lost. Like you said, they built it to be something bigger in their minds but then were disappointed.

I honestly think, for me, it was a format issue. If the story was condensed into a movie, I probably would have loved it. Confined in a 2.5 hour film with a traditional three act structure, it would have forced speedier pacing and a tighter story. As I would be watching, I probably would have just followed them along for the ride.

The weekly miniseries format (it was like 7-8 episodes) gave me way too much time to try to pick apart the story during the week. I believe there was even a break because of the Superbowl, which really built up more anticipation. I guess the next time I try to watch it, I'll have to marathon it.

watched a little of The Dictator. Funny stuff. Gotta catch it when there isn't any football on to watch the whole thing.

Razzie's ballot for 2014 is out. The Interview, Seth McFarlane's How to Die in the West and Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas lead the pack with the most potential nominations.
