Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I saw the trailer on tv and was like who are the morons who said ok to that movie. It might be the crappiest looking movie trailer i've ever seen.

I don't think it will be historically bad but it might be a historical flop considering the $175 mill budget

Wifey & I caught Olive Kitteridge on HBO this afternoon. This 2 part mini series or movie based on the Pulitzer Prize winning book was solid. Great performance from Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, & even the bit role from Bill Murray... John Gallagher from Newsroom & Short Term was in it too...
What was it about? :nerd:

It was on all day today and I was gonna give it a shot but when I read the synopsis it felt like it was some ongoing series that I'd be jumping in the middle of. Wasn't making much sense to me so I passed, then the Talented Mr. Ripley came on :smokin

I also watched The Mexican today for the first time. Meh overall.

And now it has me wondering so I ask yall. Is Julia Roberts really a good actress?

And if the trailer is that bad, I bet the movie itself is even worse.!

Every time I catch a movie on TV with Cuba Gooding, I think "what happened to this guy's career?" Seemed like he was primed to be an A-lister for years after Boyz In The Hood and Jerry Maguire. But it never happened. Was he not as good an actor as it seemed? Bad project selection? Whatever it was, he fell off hard.

Zik. Yes.

Julia is good. Erin Brokovich. Osage County. Closer. Then her rom-com stuff.

Elite? No, maybe not. But good actress, yes, absolutely.

Okay  I kinda figured.

I was gonna mention I also watched Osage County before and naturally I felt Meryl outshines everybody  Erin Brokovich was also on today but I aint have the time to watch the whole thing.

Julia was believable and didn't take me out of the movie but I guess I'm saying she's not as impressive as her fame would have some think. The best work I think I've seen from her to date was an ep of Law & Order where she played a cunning and clever manipulative witness/whistle blower.

Maybe it's just cuz I did watch The Mexican today and her character just annoyed the **** out of me

No one should have to watch Taken 3. T3 was the worst movie I've seen in a long, long time. Maggie Grace cried 5 times in this one... probably a dozen more off screen for being stuck in such a horrible franchise. The action was over-the-top (in a bad way), the acting was horrible, the plot was extra-generic with a dash of extra-predictable (srsly figured out the "twist" in the 2nd scene), the explosions were pointless and cheesy, and I'm just mad I got dragged to the movie. Shame on Luc Besson for mailing it in this time even more than the last. Forrest Whitaker just joined for the paycheck, no real semblance of trying in this role.

No one watch it.

^^^ Disappointing. I thought they would try to make at least a little more of an effort after 2, but it sounds like this was just another half-*** cash grab. I shouldn't be surprised. I'll peep it on cable at some point, but definitely am not going to pay for it now.

"Hangover was so good, surely we can do a crappy sequel and coast for a third. Right?"

"Taken was so good, we can do exactly what the Hangover people did. Right?"

I feel like the twist is gonna be something dumb like
The mom isnt dead shes a terrorist too
Dont tell me if I'm right cause I'm gonna watch it.

It's one of those slice of life flicks looking into the life of a school teacher whose married with a son. She's well meaning but kinda anti social person who suffers from severe depression (possibly even mental illness). Although she means well, she has a negative effect on her husband (Richard Jenkins) & son (John Gallagher ) which greatly effects their lives.

It really does great job exploring how complex a marriage (especially a long one) can be. I really liked the dichotomy of how needlessly cruel Olive (Frances McDormand) could be & how kind her husband was. It was a really stark contrast which was explored very well.

As for Julie Roberts, she's done a lot of crap movies & I think The Mexican was one of them. I thought she was stellar in Erin Brockovich. I also enjoyed Notting Hill, My Best Friend's Wedding, & Closer.

Also, just finished the Roger Ebert doc Life Itself. What a great doc. It was a moving tribute to the man who lived a great & accomplished life. My wife & I really liked it. What I liked about it is that he had an even better family life. Great look also into the love/hate & ultimately love relationship he had with Gene Siskel (whose wife is a fine cougar BTW ).

Flipping through the channels see On the Road is on so I jump in and watch it for five minutes the biggest pretentious piece of ******* **** I've seen this year. Kristen Stewart is trash and this movie is equally bad.

You know what I'd like to see? A film directed by Wes Anderson with the screenplay by Quentin Tarantino

:smokin I'd watch that movie on a long lasting high.

She's like the female George Clooney if that makes any sense.
You know, if you phrase it like that I'd say it makes sense but then I'd want to say I think Julia is a better actor than George.

Only thing George has over her is the aging well, gaining that air of prestige that comes with age, suave gentlemen look. Always seemed to me ppl tried to compare his style to the likes of Frank, Dean, and Sammy the whole rat pack but to me he is like the most vapid version of those guys and wouldn't ever measure up. Just for one he was nowhere near as talented.

Sounds like another so bad it's great classic  :pimp:

I gotta assume even despite you saying over the top action in a bad way, horrible acting, predictable, and extra generic that they still managed to top the Maggie Grace launching grenades with Liam on his echolocation steez via explosions

Thanks. I probably will check it out on demand or next time it's on.

I wish you would've asked before you watched. I peeped it for the same amount of time coming in knowing it wouldn't be good and it for that short time it was even worse.

On principle now a days I try to avoid movies with Kristen Stewart in them.
