Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

Come on, dude. I have no problem with you not liking Grand Budapest Hotel, but calling it "awful" is trolling. A movie that gets nine Academy Award nominations pretty much by definition cannot be "awful." If its not for you, cool. But don't act like people are crazy for thinking its brilliant. Then again, I guess part of what (some) critics do is trolling.

Calling it awful is not trolling.

Calling it awful is having an opinion.

"A movie that gets nine Academy Award nominations pretty much by definition cannot be "awful.""

Really? Says who? The Academy who is NOTORIOUS for snubs and laughable nominations?

OK. Give me another example of a movie that got that many nominations that you think is awful.

I readily agree that they don't always get it right and miss the boat on some films, but I stand by my statement that movies that receive a lot of nominations generally cannot be regarded as bad movies. Overrated? Maybe. "Awful"? No.

Whiplash :smoking

Probably my most favorite movie of the year. I would of like to seen more interaction with the girlfriend though, but other than that movie kept me on the edge of my seat. J.K. Simmons should win Best Supporting Actor in Oscars. I cant really think off the top of my head another movie I enjoyed a lot this year, besides Interstellar, Gone Girl, and Birdman.

The (awful) Grand Budapest Hotel, and Birdman Lead the Way with Nine Nominations a Piece. Here are all the Nominations for the 87th Academy Awards - http://wp.me/p2CCWq-3YT
Maybe I'm missing something and apparently missed it all last year, you thought The Grand Budapest Hotel was awful?!!? :wow: :smh:

I thought it was another great Wes Anderson movie. Fiennes was excellent.

Basically, he doesn't like Wes Anderson movies. Pretty sure he's on record saying the only one he's liked is Moonrise Kingdom. So in this case "awful" = "I don't really get it."

Oh okay.

As long as I've been in here I wasn't aware of that.

Crazy not to like The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Darjeeling Limited, Life Aquatic..., and a few others.

1. You are correct, thank you for paying attention - Moonrise is the Only thing from Wes I have enjoyed.

2. Please don't be one of those people who insults my intelligence by saying "I didn't get a film" because I said I didn't like it. Don't stoop to those levels to try to make your point.

Just finished Budapest this morning. I liked it a lot. went in with low expectations because a fear of it being a little too Wes anderson-y(Darjeeling, Moonrise) but it was genuinely entertaining in its own right. Didn't even know that Tilda Swinton was the old lady.

i get if some people dont like the wes anderson style but i dont get how you can say its a bad or awful movie

Fair enough. I'll refrain from that if you agree not to lable movies as "awful" that reaslly can't be regarded as awful by any reasonable standard. That's equally insulting.

And to be clear, when I say "don't get it," I don't mean in an intellectual capacity. I just mean something about Wes Anderson's movies don't resonate with you. Like, for example, I don't get the Twilight movies, Tyler Perry movies, etc.

Forgot to mention last night, Broad City S2 premiere :smokin  Seth Rogen cameo  w/ the passed out from heat exhaustion and then kinda gets raped

Always Sunny 10th season premiere (and probably final) ep was ok. Dee was hilarious to me

Man Seeking Woman was interesting. I didn't know what to expect. Watched for Eric Andre and Jay B. Thought at first it'd be like You're the worst or Married but it's not. It's a bit like Louie but a bit weird like Wilfred and that one other show they had where weird **** would happen out the blue. I'll stick with it this first season. The funny is back on Wed nights
