Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

I uh.....hear that Machina can be viewed at home these days as well. Said the grapevine.

Same for Maggie.

Yes, that's the one. I haven't seen it yet, but you're the first person who's posted about it on here that didn't think very highly of it. I plan to check it out.

I honestly didn't think it was as good as some people are saying it is...

Man Johnny, you need to watch this soon. Don't put it on the 15 year list.

sidenote: I'm not even liking what I am seeing from the Entourage previews. It looks like HBO content, that got produced and edited by FOX TV. Cheap *** Hollywood bright light brags over quality content. The lightin....you know what,  nevermind, not even worth discussing. I know what to expect, trash. I want the show back Man.

The show fell off noticeably after season 3, not really expecting much from the movie but I'll watch it anyways during a matinee for cheap. I enjoyed the series overall and I liked the characters but I agree, all the trailers are just meh

Agreed. It might as well be a HBO movie

Tread lightly, man. Meth came in the Game of Thrones thread this season to say that passing along that kind of grapevine info is very frowned upon by NT management.

Same. And as I've been saying, 30 minute doses for those actors/characters was a perfect amount. Don't know that I want or need to see those guys for 1.5 hours. I'll watch the movie at some point, but my expectations are quite low. Show was great though . . . up until the last 2 seasons or so, which were pretty meh.

I wish Olivia Wilde was in more movies that I cared to watch.
She can act.
She killed it in Drinking Buddies, her small role in Her, Third Person was such a dope film. If you guys haven't seen it, you are truly missing out, I read the overview on IMDB after watching Drinking Buddies and checking her filmography, and watched it immediately.

She is so fine, she is perfect in that "I don't wear a lot of makeup or try to hard to be pretty" kind of way. Really digging her atm

I've been a fan of hers for awhile, she just isn't in enough movies unfortunately. She's a good actress, beautiful, funny in interviews, etc., she should be more popular. She's one of those actresses I love and I've watched some of her bad movies just because she was in it.

Just got back from Mad Max: Fury Road in 3D

A+

Can't comment enough on the acting choices. Tom Hardy conveyed so much with so little, Charlize Theron was good, Nicholas Hoult killed it, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is back for her first movie since Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon and she does well in limited time (all of the actresses in the group she was in were stellar), Hugh Keays-Byrne as Immortan Joe. :wow:

The first scene is captivating, especially in the way it ends.

I have never seen an action movie that looks and feels as grand as this movie does actually executed so well. From start to finish, just amazing.

It's funny, late last year there was buzz that some test audiences saw Mad Max & there being very mixed reviews. Given what looks like unanimous good reviews for the flick, I wonder what that buzz late last year was about? :rolleyes

I read that Hardy was tied to a project called The Outsider which was described as, "An epic set in post-WWII Japan and centered on an American former G.I. who joins the yakuza."

Not sure what the latest development for that picture is but with Hardy starring, it sounds epic. :smokin

Various reviews of Mad Max as compiled by cnn.com.

Claudia Puig, USA Today: "While the extended action sequences are dazzling, the film succeeds mostly due to the powerful performances of Hardy and Theron. The best female action hero since Sigourney Weaver in Alien, Theron is riveting as the clever and determined, shaved-headed Furiosa. She lends the role a fascinating blend of toughness, tenderness and gravitas as we learn her tragic back story in the film's final third. ... Sometimes the vehicular crashes and over-the-top pandemonium grow a bit numbing, though Miller finds a way to make even the carnage inventive."

Ty Burr, Boston Globe: " 'Mad Max: Fury Road' isn't a reboot, it's a power-up -- an outrageously kinetic, visually inventive, dramatically satisfying demolition derby that pits the matriarchy against the patriarchy while standing as the action film to beat for the rest of the summer, possibly the decade. It may be the best thing Miller has ever done. ... It's enough to renew your faith in movies."

Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter: "The new film certainly boasts a higher percentage of flat-out amazing action than any of its predecessors, and that's probably enough said for most of its potential audience. Perhaps the long gestation period served it well. While very similar to its predecessors in almost every way, the film has devilishness in its details. ... And then there's the new leading actor, Tom Hardy, who's so ideal a replacement for Mel Gibson that one wouldn't want to imagine anyone else having taken over the role."

Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly: "When you get past Miller's orgy of loco action sequences -- and they're so good, you may not need to -- the story is pretty thin. ... What made the first Mad Max such a future-shock classic wasn't just its jittery, overcranked action served up with a sick smile, but also its metaphorical depth. The new film is, I'm sorry to say, just another summer action film (albeit a gorgeously shot one). In the end, Mad Max's road may be furious, but it doesn't really lead anywhere."

A.O. Scott, The New York Times: "It's all great fun, and quite rousing as well -- a large-scale genre movie that is at once unpretentious and unafraid to bring home a message. Way back in the 'Thunderdome' days, Tina Turner sang, 'We don't need another hero.' That's more true than ever, especially during summer movie season. And 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' like its namesake both humble and indomitable, isn't about heroism in the conventional, superpowered sense. It's about revolution."

Peter Travers, Rolling Stone: "The long-incubating Mad Max: Fury Road is an R-rated, rocket-fueled romper-stomper, a nonstop chase epic powered by a reported $150 million budget and Miller's indisputable visionary genius. One look at Max, and the kiddie fans of Happy Feet would be traumatized for life. Does this ride down Fury Road always make sense? Not really. So what? Just go with it."

I liked the cast in this one. My boy from Prison Break, gay guy from Modern Family and my boy James. Worth checking out. I'll see Mad Max next week.

I saw the loft a few weeks ago, it was ok. Acting was pretty bad for the most part but it kept you guessing for the first half of it. Served its purpose.

I really think machina's my moty so far, as for a sci do flick... def one of the best I've seen in a while

I'm a huge fan of the original Pitch Perfect, and in my opinion, Pitch Perfect 2 was a pretty poor movie with a mailed in plot, but a few very fun cameos (SNOOP-A-LOOP).

Keenan was  though.
