Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

[emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji][emoji]128514[/emoji] rck. I have no idea who this character is or the backstory but the 1st episode has me intrigued. Will probably binge watch the rest this week.

Jessica Jones, Episode 1

-The intro is weird... reminds me of Season 2 True Detective. Also, the intro reminded me I need to finish season 2 of True Detective... is it worth finishing guys?

-back to the show.... opening monologue with a jazzy sax in the background while two unassuming people bang it out on the streets of Hell's Kitchen, what a time to be alive... sure why not, Jane's death was actually faked by Walt, out of the kindness of his heart. He sent her far away from New Mexico and to NY and thus begins the adventures of AKA Jessica Jones; well played Jane.

-"Is being drunk an excuse?" tbh I wish this was a socially acceptable answer. The world would be so different if it was.

-lens flare

-variant Claire Underwood

-wait is that actually Claire Underwood?

-running out of toilet paper is the worst. I once had to use kitchen paper towels FML

-Jim Beam in to a canteen.... I once snuck vodka in a liter water bottle and a separate carton of OJ into Disneyland and then had to drive out to LB that night, oh to be young, reckless, and..... feels like a life time ago |I

-is super jumping Jessica Jones' superpower?

-this show is fat shaming already smh

-homeless the Weeknd

-this case is boring me, track athlete blah blah

-face licking?!?

-this show is so naughty..... monkeycovingeyes.emoji

-OH BOY! Luke Cage getting it in real ******* quick! Stickman, stickman, stickman, whoo

-Jesse rolling in his grave right now man... Luke Cage breaking one off :wow:

-ruh roh, mysterious asian shop cliche... epic case of deja vu!

-who the hell is this mysterious figure and what did he make Jessica do?!?!

-I'm gonna get a seizure from this hotel hallway scene

-this show is ******* scary

-WHAT THE HELL!!!!! I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!! CALL IN THE AVENGERS OR SOMETHING PLS
this show is tough to watch and try to post things about.... idk if I'm doing it again

Yeah that ending was wild..

Lester Freeman Byke!

Going back a few years, I know, but y'all know I don't stay current.

And going back a few years on something I'm not sure was allowed to be discussed in here.

Saw Magic Mike last night. Watched it w/ my girl. Her pick, obviously. (mine was Theory of Everything, tonight)

Honestly, it was a good movie. *shrugs*
____________

- Mike: "What, are you gonna steal a bunch of my **** or something? :\"

- Joanna: "Probably. That's what strangers do."

- Mike: "Don't... do that... maybe?"
___________

- Mike: "You don't want to know what I have to do for 20s."

- Brooke: "I don't. lol"

- Mike: "Actually, let's drink these and I'll show you."

If you call it a classic, I'll shut the thread down.

Otherwise, no prob. All girls force us to watch at some point.

Pardon my extreme ignorance, but how is Star Wars at $50 million and hasn't released?

I get the fanfare. I'm not asking about that. I'm not questioning the gaudy number; that makes sense.

I'm asking... how is it even above $20? :\ It... hasn't come out. There should be $0 at the box office.

Or, I get advanced screenings and what not... but not $50mil of advanced screenings.

I get that... but $50mil of prepurchases?! :wow:

Like it's $50mil of tickets in people's wallets just waiting for 12/18/15?!

Yeah man. Quick rough math here. Standard ticket price around the way is $11 a pop. Let's say the average ticket price paid for opening weekend is $12.50. It's a little high because IMAX and 3D screenings will inflate the price, but not by much.

So we take the $50 mil estimated opening weekend pull (imo too low) and divide that by the avg. ticket price of $12.50.

50MM/12.50 = 4 million tickets bought.

Not that outrageous considering the circumstances.

4 million movie tickets, for a movie not out for another month, isn't outrageous to you?

It's never happened before, any movie, ever.

The film is gonna hit 100 million BEFORE it release.

Imax, which will show the film in about 390 theaters domestically, sold around $6.5 million worth of tickets in 12 hours — it previously never had sold more than $1 million a day in presales. In less than 12 hours, AMC sold out more than 1,000 shows nationwide, setting its own record (its Imax auditoriums accounted for 38 percent of sales).

Disney gonna make their 4 billion back on one single film.

what's the max amount of money they can make opening weekend?

You'd have to know how many theaters carry it, and how many seats. No way to know all that.

Avengers had the biggest opening at the time, 207 million, and that was 63% of the possible seats/tickets available.

I assume after the first week, we'll hear that kind of number, but no way I can predict it.

Bet that's dependent on the maximum capacity of movie theaters worldwide

It's a 2hr+ movie so you can watch it like 11 times in a day. So just choose the amount of ppl you think will be able to see opening weekend and then multiple that by the ticket price.

yeah i remember birdman making like 4-5 times the per screen numbers of any of last years major blockbusters when it first came out

jurassic world opened up on 4,291 theaters, with maybe an average of 4 screens each averaging 100 seats, lets say 4 showings a day per screen and three days in opening weekend

that's 20.5 mil potential tickets for an average of 12.5 dollars

257.5 million doll hairs to be made

Nope, not outrageous to me. This is the most hyped Star Wars film ever, possibly the most hyped film outright. 3 generations of Americans grew up since the original trilogy, waiting for someone to rectify the series after the prequels. There certainly haven't been 4 million people that have preordered tickets, but assuming most people only bought tickets to one showing so far, I'd say 3.5 million fans, spread out over 30 years, isn't crazy or outrageous.

Yes, the numbers alone are nuts. But taken in context, the anticipation, the waiting, the Disney hype machine... I'm not surprised to see 50 million prerelease. I'll be surprised when the preorders hit 70mm.
