Oh I'm sorry, Did I Break Your Conversation........Well Allow Me A Movie Thread by S&T

It can be very difficult to get into Terrance Malik films. Often times when people don't know what they're getting into, they leave disappointed.

this might sound silly or like too much work, but I've found the best way is to just force your way through the movie with no expectations going into it. Think about key concepts that stood out to you. Then read a
Few different articles about the movie and what themes he was trying to get across. See if you picked up on any of Those things, then give it another watch. There are so many layers to his movies, it's hard to just veg out while watching, you gotta put some work in.
thank you. did not know who wrote and directed the movie. i see the similarities with tree of life and i liked that movie. will watch it when i can devote attention to it.

anyone else have 0 excitement about the warcraft movie?

trailers look like trash

story looks like trash

and im a huge fan of warcraft characters
If it's possible to have less than 0 interest/excitement that's where I'm at. I have no connection to Warcraft aside from having heard of it, so to me the preview looks like someone decided to make a movie that tells the story of variant looking Orcks from LOTR. Why would I want to see that? Doubt I'll even watch it once it comes to HBO, etc.
the trailer looked like one of those very well funded ads for a mobile game

concussion brought in $7.8 million, only a million more than that disgraceful remake of point break. I guess their main marketing point of it being "controversial" didn't help much.

This is what Will turned down Independence Day for??? Tell da twoof!!

is the whole knight of cups movie shot in that dream sequence-type of narration and movement? i turned it off 15 minutes in because it was dragging. is it worth watching in its' entirety?

Not completely disagreeing with you but damn this sounds bad. You made this sound like a whole lot of work.

I really didn't feel I had to do all that for Thin Red Line (which was great), New World, Badlands, and Tree of Life. Tree of Life to being his only movie that was really out there for to get in to. I feel that's even less of the case with the movies he's written. I know nobody did that for Dirty Harry and The Gravy Train but Malik can write some weird **** I will admit.

He just has a very specific style when it comes pacing and atmosphere that can make it a complete struggle to get in to it and stick with it. I know I was like what the **** the first time I watched the beginning of Tree of Life but then I just got interested with exactly how long this intro was gonna take before the story actually started. **** had me feeling like I was watching the science, discovery, and history channel all at once

That would make more sense. If SQ flops, I'm boycotting Wills acting endeavors completely. I'll support him and Jazzy on tour, but I'll never forgive him at the box office for not showing up for ID 2

speaking of jazz

if any of yall have jazzy jeff in your area doing a show, it will be a great time

I think at this point in his career and I'm going off quotes by him he's doing more movies he wants to do than movies that are big in the box office and prop up his fame.

I think he's abandoned his formula he had for success of doing action thrillers, comedies and sci-fi flicks. Now if he does them there's a reason (put his son on  ). It just shows the clear differences in his priorities. Back in the day he turned down the Matrix cuz I guess it didn't fit in to his plans and movie formula (he did Wild Wild West) but now he's turning stuff like Django and this Independence Day revival cuz he's doing other **** he wants to do. Since After Earth there's really no rhyme or reason to the movies he's picking. I think he just wants to try being a villain in SS and wanted to tell that Concussion story cuz to stretch his range.

I also think he's actually trying to win an award for his acting now. Concussion while not being widely praised I feel was intended to be Oscar bait and according to some critics will get Will a nomination or at least have ppl saying he was snubbed. I feel it's a bit late for him trying to be an actor that's praised for his talent and skill though. I wanted him to start going down that path after Ali.

will smith in a QT movie = easy oscar nom

would be funny to see a guy who has been known for his lack of profanities in rap doing a QT character

I feel like Will has only been doing only Oscar bait movies starting with Ali. With the exception of MIB III. Ali, Seven Pounds, Pursuit of Happyness, etx.

did anyone see Legend?  Man what a miss, Tom Hardy, british gangster movie did it wind up so bland

Yeah I was very hyped when I heard that rumor but I understand why he passed on it.

In many ways Schultz does come off as taking the main character role until he dies.

He cusses a fair amount in the Bad Boys flicks, if I recall correctly. But a QT movie would be on a whole different level.

on that note, hateful eight might be the most rated R movie ive seen in theaters

I would rate it better than django, not as great as IB

movie did not feel too long at all, would watch it again in its entirety

I respectfully disagree. I think the only character Will Smith can play is Will Smith. Ali was the same character he played in iRobot, just bulked up.

It's more that these actors are great at playing specific character traits and they get cast because of it.

Same with Tom cruise and RDJ

literary spit on my screen from this.

I think he was already filming SQ when they started ID2 so like what could he really do?

It's about making commitments.

Casting agent contacts Will's agent. He probably has several offers at any given moment. So we don't know if he was offered both and chose SS over ID2 or if he simply chose SS over some other offers and then the ppl doing ID2 made the offer too late.

There's also the pre-pre-production verbal agreement type of stuff. Like for example, Ben Affleck tells Matt Damon sure I'll be in this movie with you when you do that but then things changed cuz he got a real good offer from Scorsese or something.
