i got +$% whoopins when i was a kid & so did everybody i know & i will be whoopin my kids. but i know for me it just made me mad & most days i got multiple beatins in a day so maybe i aint learn nuthin from it

IMO it all depends on the kid. Some kids are easygoing and will listen and behave well without the punishment of spanking. Some kids are terrible and will act like demons unless they are physically punished.
When I was little my mom never hit me, but I still listened to her and treated her with respect.

Why? Is hurting a child better than logically explaining why what they are doing is wrong? Children are fast learners imo. They can later apply the knowledge they gain from that to things. Spanking imo will lead children to fear getting hit instead of actually realizing why what they are doing is wrong. Which imo is more important then spanking a kid to make them stop doing wrong. Also spanking will in turn teach children to do wrong but to not get caught. Just my opinion.
Example: Kid blatantly takes candy from store and eats it. Kid gets spanked. Kid learns how to steal candy without getting caught.
Kid takes candy. Parent explains why that is not okay. Kid learns that stealing is wrong. Later applies that to things later on in life.

My daughter just turned one and I don't believe in spanking or yelling. I often get compliments at stores or kids birthday parties about how well behaved she is

my 2 stepkids are bad ##%%% b/c their daddy was never around so momma went easy cuz she felt sorry for them. When we got together i went ham on them for they way they acted just outright disrespectful b/c they were told no, now they listen way better than before but still have fits as all kids will btu its a dramatic improvement. I do not have to beat them near like i used now its just for serious stuff like lying or being disrespectful to their mother. My baby is 2 and she gets spanked as well but she also knows when i am serious and for the most part acts right i think it just depends on how you raise them from the star but all kids need a spanking or beating whatever you want to call it form time to time.
