   @ some of yall wanting Trilogy 2.0

Get over it man. Artists grow, at least the great ones do.

This album is excellent and I'm only midway thru second listen.

Sorry, not everyone is going to have the same opinion. You might as well get over that fact now

Kiss Land was a true mark of progression. BBTM is good don't get me wrong, but it's more of a project dedicated to reaching a broader audience. Again, it's a good album but it's not unfair to call it for what it is

For the most part, it's not the vintage Weeknd that we all love. But it's still good. You guys are overreacting a little.

that song with that Ed dude is funny as hell  that **** sound like some Adam Levine type **** maybe nickleback

I'm not really tripping honestly. Too much good stuff coming out this year to be trippin off this mediocrity

Yall are probably right.

I guess from most major music media outlets this will get good reviews. From an underground standpoint, KTT and I guess just the OG era fans I haven't seen many with positive things to say about it. From what I've seen, he seems pretty connected to that core fan base and I just don't see him producing multiples albums sounding like this. So I figured perhaps he would weight that against the commercial success he's gained since he'll have the leverage to do so.

And it's not about wanting Trilogy 2.0, just artistic growth. Someone said it a while back, KL was a good example of that. After about 4 listens I'm finding it difficult to point a tangible thing he got better at.

And just to keep it 100, if this was my first listening experience with the Weeknd there's really nothing that would keep me interested to the point I'd be checking for him consistently. I'd say this almost falls into the category of this is why I don't mess with contemporary R&B in general.

You're actually on the right track IMO. HOPEFULLY THIS KILLS IT COMMERCIALLY so that on his next project he won't yearn as much for money

On the flipside, if he really does kill it on the charts, that taste of commercial success could suck him in forever

You're absolutely right on your last point. I feel like it's difficult to "grow" as an artist considering WHERE HE STARTED. The tapes and Kiss Land IMO were already so evolved musically. I would actually like to know how BBTM is a sign of growth?

Lol @ being obedient.

And yea man chess moves. I think every artist catapulted to that degree of fame can be intimidated by bright lights and red carpets but eventually they come down and return to their nucleus.

Bruno Mars
Adam Levine
Taylor Swift
Etc we're pop before they were pop.

One thing I'll give him credit is that he's maintained his misogynystic content through out the commercial aspiration phase, and being honest writing a pop song is whole different beast then going into the booth freestyle for 7 minutes.

Dude is at a different place in his life now. He still gets high and runs through women but his situation is better now.

Trilogy is definitely classic but that's cause we love hearing artists speak about their struggle. To me it's more genuine to see the change cause that's his reality.

And I'm hating cause I can't listen until I go home tonight

Honestly it feels as if the album was just thrown together at the last minute. Because I enjoy dude's music I think the more I listen to it the more I'll like it. I'd hafta agree with dude though, if this was my first introduction to The Weeknd, it'd be a hard pass.

This goes back to what I said earlier in the summer, folks who only know the Weeknd for this album and Earned It will find out I love the Weeknd and probably get the wrong idea of who I am

Man I'm relistening, some of these tracks are embarrassing.

My favorite so far is tell your friends

Yea man....
The production on Tell Your Friends sounds like Kanye tailored that production to him, and was just excited to work with him in general which I feel was further reflected in the clothing ads and stuff. Some of these other tracks are bad tho..... Like real bad. When I gave it a 6.5/10 that was based off the merit that I was giving the songs that had been out for a while the benefit of just being good songs independent of the album.

Say we took the traditional 9 song format of the mix tape with the new songs.... And we're looking at 3/10

Hoping this album is a chess move of sorts. Garnish the fans. Get depressed for all the negative reviews and comes up with dark stuff. Not expecting trilogy stuff, but Ed Sheran is like the last thing I wanna hear on a Weeknd Album
This isn't going to get negative reviews. This is going to get so much love it'll be crazy. I already know I'm gonna love the album. I liked every song I heard so far.I believe if people let go of their expectations, they would enjoy it. It was probably the same with KL, seeing how people are lining it up with the Trilogy now.

Na, I liked the leaked tracks, but the album overall is way more poppy than those... it's a good album but this has nothing to do with the perception of KL initially

This will get rave reviews from the mainstream probably
