A lot of folks can't get past the "whiny" sound that The Weeknd has. Can't even hate on that. I will say I know a number of folks who have eventually come around and got past the whiny tones, I think there just has to be that a-ha moment. But again, can't hate.
 
Always felt the whiny sound complaint was waaaaaaaaaaaaay overstated by a vocal minority. There are only a handful of songs in his entire catalog that warrant that criticism imo.

I agree. It's nothing new though, people always seem to find minor complaints to latch onto with artists.

This is why i literally have decided to never argue music with people.

People like YOUNG THUG....YOUNG THUG....Abel whines....but Young Thugger Bangs....WHAT?!? Like seriously??? Dude sounds like a prepubescent dying weasel...but abel whines. OK...sure yep sure...

Just checked out Young Thug, My lord what trash. Remove the heavy trap beat and you have pure trash.
