I'm good..

If he wants to make more pop songs simply to sell more records? Go for it, get your money and fame.

If he wants to change it up because that's how he feels as an artist? Same. Go for it, doesn't matter to me.

If he never returns to his OG sound and we just get more and more pop-oriented tracks? Oh well, I'll enjoy his new stuff or just listen to his old stuff and be happy if he's successful.

Even if he completely changes and we all collectively hate his new music, I'll still enjoy his old stuff. So I'll just hope that as he grows as an artist, I'll like the new stuff he's putting out because I'm a fan of his and would like to see him be successful, artistically and commercially.

But I've never had a problem just skipping an artist's new material if I'm not a fan... it never changes how I feel about their previous stuff.

LL

This is nothing to relate to?

People shouldn't be upset that he wants to blow up. He's making that transition into pop sound to reach a wider audience. IMO it's a good move for him because it'll actually push him to better himself. His song with Ariana Grande is a perfect example. That article talks about how he rewrote and recorded his part and the label ran with it. It was a very pop sound but still Weeknd's essence. To the new fans those lyrics went over their heads. To those who know the deal, understand the context of, "If you know about me and choose to stay / Then take this pleasure and take it with the pain".

Now if only there were some way to hear the Weeknd only versions of the songs that went on Take Care.

I'm wondering what the next tour will be like. New sound with bits of KL?

He didn't do MSG, I believe, but if he does, guaranteed sellout.

Seems we should all pour out our bottle of Remy Martin XO for the end of an era.

The one thing i regret the most is not seeing him in a small venue. I saw him live opeing for Florence and the Machine at Merriweather. I sang every word to every song obnoxiously on the lawn as people walked by and mugged me. Had one girl stop and talk to me saying "wow you are really his fan aren't you".

If his "pop" sound is anything like The Hills, In The 90s, Shameless snippet, or that Gone snippet - sign me up.

Can't really say I'm upset.

Earned It was dope as hell.
Love Me Harder was honestly a well worked collaboration.
First time I heard ICFMF I was "eh" on it....now I think it's dope as hell.

As long as he can continue to do pop with his own grey area spin on it, I don't think I'll have any problems with his new direction.

Ayeee lol he's dancing all over the place.

They're throwing **** at Abel

Gonna go on a limb and say it's probably his best video yet.

Just my initial impression:

Him performing for a Luke warm crowd symbolizes how kissland was supposed to be his major hit that launched him into mainstream status. The majority of the crowd is sitting there obviously bored wondering who this weird dude is.

The females represent the core of fans. The one who throws the drink is obviously the trilogy era fan who feels likes he's sold out completely. The one who is biting her lip is what you guys would call the "earned it" fans.

The old white guy is symbolic of the new producer he's been workin with. Which makes more sense in the hills video now. The car accident represents Kissland being a fail in his eyes and time for him to try something new.

So here's the extremely clever part, and this is just my opinion. It's well known that the weeknd was huge a MJ fan. In my heart of hearts I felt like they tried to play MJ when they set his hair on fire hoping they could ruin his image and brand because of how much power he was garnishing. (I'm a conspiracy theorist so come at me bro's)

But to bring this thing full circle the kid realizes he's the new MJ, so that scene serves two purposes. He's realized that he made a deal with the devil (major record labels etc) but he's also brought back the spirit of MJ from the dead in contemporary terms. Thus he becomes on fire from the devil symbolizing burning in hell for selling out, and then actually having to go through hell to find that MJ type of spirit to be successful
#NoGutsNoGlory.
Because his style is so raw and filled with debauchery there's nothing they can do to tarnish his image. And like he's always said, I stay out of the media so the music speaks for itself and at the end of the day that's all fans really have.

Towards the end of the video he's finally "enlightened"
With the fire of hell for better and for worst but the world loves him.

So yea just a quick observation and just my opinion. Nothing more or less.
