Nah, he ain't going plat. I think ya'll overestimating this new fanbase ya'll think he has.
Look at how well his singles have been charting. It is a great pop album and I have no doubt this will go platinum.

Drake wasn't the reason live for was bad  that's all on Abel. Chorus was buns. Started off like it was gonna be fire too

Haha yeah the beginning makes you think somethjng truly epic. And the last 30 seconds when it goes off in that melody I thought he was going to kill it like love in the sky.

Can't wait for Quint's album reaction.

What'd KL do sales-wise first week? Like 70k as a virtual unknown? BBTM doubles, maybe even triples that. Easily.

I've listened to the album in full a few times now. It's a great pop album, but it's not a great Weeknd album, if that makes sense.
I'm not even mad at the pop sound, I just feel like the album lacks growth. Lyrically it's a step down from Kissland and overall it's just not nearly as cohesive as his previous work, especially compared to KL.
Kissland is pretty much my favorite body of work from him.

Belong To The World is underrated, IMO, but you can play it straight through to Live For and it's :haaaat. Lyrically and sonically :pimp:

this.

drake's iyrtitl didnt go platinum for a while.

while this new sound has crossed over to top 40, its just not easy to go platinum in month anymore
Exactly. Drake had 17 songs in the top 50 and didn't even go Plat until months after. Dude doesn't have this new super fanbase ya'll think he does. Did he gain some new ones? Yes, but not enough to go plat real soon. I'll give him gold in like 3 months.

Anyone have a link to Girls Born in the 90s without the tags? Everything I find has someone saying "This is an exclusive" in it. :\

Welp.

Real life-

This is a perfect opening track. If you can imagine this as the progression from KL, you can almost imagine how many women have come in and out of homie's lives. How many women have had to be left behind despite how much potential they have. I know several of us can relate to being destructive when it comes to our own happiness. So many "could have been the one" come and go. I'm definitely impressed with this first track.

Losers-

The feature track is cool. It's not skippable, but it doesn't move me. I'm definitely a fan of the beat. I get the message.

Tell your friends-

Definitely a mesh of the old and the new sound. Reminds me of Glass Table Girls content wise, and KotF ( :x ) flow/delivery wise. I can live without the chorus up until "I'm that ***** with the hair singin bout poppin pills and f***** b*****".
Rob a ***** for his Jordans then flip em just to get these b****** another nose fix.

Often-

The end of TYF into Often was pretty cool. Still a fan of this track. I always wished the outro was a bit longer, ala Gone or Party/AfterParty. I know we all thought its placement on the album was a bit off putting, but maybe that just means we have the chance to attach new memories to it.

The Hills-

More times than none I've gone into detail about how much of a fan I am of this song. I've mentioned how crazy my life was back in April, but I never gave any actual stories because I still think one of my exes peruses through NT from time to time. But **** it. I'll give a story. Around this time last year one of my frat brothers and I were targeting biddies on campus. We both met this one and we knew one of us would take her down. He stayed closer to the school, and she lived in the dorms. So he got her. Fast forward to the spring semester, one of the side pieces I had ended up letting him hit. I respect dude, because he told me immediately after. I told him I honestly didn't care since she wasn't my girl, etc. He thought I'd flip out, but those **** are for everybody. We kept it pushing. The. April rolls around and everyone is feeling the excitement because the school year is ending. We're at a party and the one he got to first shows up. She starts talking reckless, and I debate whether I should entertain it or not. She says "Kyle, we're not having sex. I just want to come over" :rolleyes. I think to myself that I don't want to be an ahole like that to my frat brother. But I was on a self proclaimed rampage for the month and I wouldn't let the opportunity for something new pass me by. We leave the party. She comes over and asks to play "Or Nah" while taking shots. I put the music on shuffle, and we're throwing back Sailor Jerry's shots (92 proof). After about 7 shots or so, the Coachella version of Mood Music plays. To which she falls in love with immediately. I swear the final chorus of this song is being sung by a gospel choir. Gets me every time.  :smh:

So we start off and midway through she asks to put Mood Music on repeat. I have video proof of this one encounter also.
So after this, I decide to return the courtesy of being honest with my friend. Turns out he actually liked her, but she curved him. I wasn't made aware of any of this prior, so it looks like I was being malevolent. I didn't apologize though. Ol' girl was enjoyable, and her *** was fat as a mf.

Acquainted-

Initial reaction: Man what in the f***?!?

When I calmed down:

Once I heard "touching on your body" I figured he'd butchered IT90s... But dear god, this **** is phenomenal. Messing around with that one girl you know is no good for you, but you're so enthralled by the danger of it all that you say **** it. That transition into the OG. :smokin
Memories will be made to this... On God... There will be memories.

CFMF-

God damn if this song just didn't grow on me.

It's the one I hate to love, but it's funky. A nod to his new fans, so it is what it is.

Shameless-

He's talking about the same broad from Till Dawn (Here Comes the Sun). Think about it like this. "You're gonna hate him, then you'll want me, -insert Shameless here-, then you'll miss him, then you'll hate me." It's an in depth look at the hours that fall off the clock when you two are doing the same routine... Before she regrets you again. :smh:

Earned it-

Could've lived without this track being on the album, but it's whatever. Its placement was intended to sell records among the new fans... So I get it.

ITN-

I purposely didn't overplay this track since the leak in May. I was surprised at how much I was a fan of this new sound. That young Mike Jack flow about the girls who still belong to the world. Imagine the KL title track where he's talking about these kinds of girls who strip, prostitute, and are only good for getting invited backstage...
I don't think you understand, this ain't nothing to relate to. :smokin

As you are-

This is kinda like the captain save a *** track, but he wants her to know that he'll only cape temporarily. Eventually you'll still be heart broken.. I think it's for the new fans. It's meh to me and puts me in mind of Earned it, but shout out to him giving a nod to Conway Twitty with "I see the want to in your eyes".

Dark times-

Pleasantly surprised with the Ed Sheeran feature. I was expecting a pop track... But this joint is pretty nicely done. This is the track that comes on after he leaves the bar in the Juicy J "one of those nights" video.

Prisoner-

Lana did the damn thing. I hear this and think of Rolling Stone for some reason. Almost as if you're getting a glimpse inside his mind and can see what he truly thinks of the decision to go down this road as opposed to remaining in the same lane most of us older fans would have preferred him to.  :smokin

Angel-

Much better ending to this album than Tears in the rain was for KL. It's that track you play when the girl that was too good for you has finally given up on you, and you can't eem be mad at it because you know she deserved better. :smh:

What's your summary of the whole project and what would you give it out of 10 or 8?

It's hard to gauge a proper ranking off of the first spin. By no means is it a terrible album, and I think I did myself a service by going into it not "expecting" anything. There are songs on there that are flat out great in my opinion, and some that are meh. I will say this though, it's not the pop album the NYT article lead many to believe it would've been. Dude is in a different place career wise, so I can't say I necessarily disagree with his decision to cater to a different audience... But he didn't forget us though. The OG fans I mean. The Weeknd we've all been a fan of since 2011 is present on the album, although not as much as many would prefer. Overall it's a good album. I'm not going to give it a numerical rating until I hear it a few more times. I purposely stayed out of this thread during my listen so that my opinion wouldn't be swayed by anyone else who listened to it before NTXO fam sent me the link. I'm about to go back a few pages to peep some of you guys' reactions.
