we're talking about the best selling band of all time here, 95% of what i listen to is rap and there are lots of artists that i would listen to over the beatles but to say that they are not more popular than any rapper is just straight up ignorant. im talking about the opinions of everyone, there is no one on earth that doesnt know who the beatles are

eminem is BY FAR the best selling rapper ever, AND he outsold any other music artist from 2000-2009
I didn't say they were the same, just that it wouldn't be a huge stretch to compare. It's too early to totally compare the two but NWA's legacy, even beyond record sales, is a lot bigger than people think. Without NWA, Dre doesn't branch off and create Death Row. No Snoop Dogg. Eminem never blows, Kendrick Lamar doesn't get Dr Dre's blessing. Ice Cube doesn't strike out a solo career. That's not even counting their cultural implications - what other group got themselves on an FBI watchlist and turned a down and out NFL franchise (Raiders) into a fashion symbol?

NWA's influences are pretty much exclusive to rap and the culture that has streamed from it. the beatles literally changed the music industry as a whole, one of the most popular rappers of all time, jay z named his black album after a beatles album. they sell more records now than they did when they were together, who the hell still buys nwa albums? no one here is denying what NWA has done for rap but comparing them to the beatles is like comparing an ice cube to an ice berg, yes the difference is THAT bigI didn't say they were the same, just that it wouldn't be a huge stretch to compare.
