**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | 6-8 | v. Cubs & Reds |

I think Seags was our main 3-hole-hitter last season and did some spot work batting cleanup, I'd keep him there then put Morse cleanup. Morales/Montero 5 & 6 whichever order you put them in. Ibanez 7th, maybe? I Don't eem know what to do with J. Smoak anymore

I love Seager in the two spot, but I feel like that place in the lineup will eventually go to Ackley. And I see Ibanez popping up on the potential lineups, but I don't really think he'll be an everyday player. Bay, Morse, Saunders, and Guti will see the most action out there, I would believe. Ibanez is a perfect role player at this point (pinch-hitter/getaway day starter).

Ackely - 2B
Seager - 3B
Morales - DH
Morse - RF
Smoak - 1B
Montero - C
Bay - LF
Saunders - CF
Ryan - SS

Smoak ahead of Montero only to give him some cushion in the lineup so that he can benefit from hitting behind Morse and ahead of Montero. If it goes well I can even see him sneaking in ahead of Morse, but this is how I'd have the lineup look on Opening Day.

I don't know. I just don't really care for him anymore, so I put Saunders up there instead. You can still plug Guti's name in for Saunders in the 8 spot because I don't think they should throw him at the top of the lineup so quickly after him missing so many games. Let him work his way back to the top.

Bay and Saunders/Guti can be flip flopped too.

Yeah I dont expect Guti to be around much longer since this is his last year

Like you said the outfield looks pretty interchangeable with the guys they got

Morales and Morse can play 1st as well right? If so I wonder what that means for Smoak going forward

Carp was traded to the Red Sox two days ago. I didn't know that. For a player TBN later and cash.

I was gonna post today's lineup, but I forgot it and I can't find it online anywhere. Saunders is leading off though. Noesi pitching. No Smoak or Ackley.

So I haven't really kept up with baseball that much over the past couple years since the Mariners have been terrible, but who is Noesi, Seagar, Jacobs and Andino? And is Saunders that good? What happened to Ackley? Thought he was supposed to be really good.

Ok. I feel bad.

Noesi was a prospect that the Mariners got when they traded their prospect, a young ace potential guy, Michael Pineda to the Yankees (Jesus Montero also received in that deal). He's so-so. Fighting for a spot in the rotation this spring.

Seager was Ackley's buddy at UNC, who actually played 2nd base for the Tar Heels. He has since moved to 3rd base and was one of the Mariners most productive hitters last year and still has decent upside.

Jacobs hit over 30 home runs for the Marlins back in '08, but since has virtually fallen off the map only to resurface with Seattle in Peoria for Spring Training.

Andino was somewhat of a utility player for the Orioles the last few years, with the ability to play multiple spots in the infield. Provides some depth for the M's and flexibility when they need rest days for some players. He was also the subject of NT laughs when his smile seemed to have disappeared since his rookie year being on what was then, an abyssmal Oriole team.

Saunders was probably on his last go-around with the Mariners last year unless he showed he had progressed to a point where the M's were still willing to give him a chance. He hired a hitting coach last off-season and showed a good enough progression that the M's decided to hang on to him. He showed glimpses of having above-average power and good range in CF, while filling in for Gutierrez when he was injured. This year the M's hope he can show even more progression to make him a fixture in their lineup.

Ackley had a rough year hitting the ball last season, but some believe it was an adjustment for his first full season and other things here and there were listed as possible factors. Most expect him to take off this year, like they originally expected of him.

Meanwhile, the M's batters all go down on just 7 pitches in the bottom-1st.

Let's take a step back. That was, after all, the first full inning of over 1,500 innings they'll see the entire spring training and regular season.
