**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | Opening Day is Here! vs. Red Sox |

Damn...That dude Snider for the Jays who just got traded is from Mill Creek, Wa. That's my spot right now...They produce some ball players here so I'm not surprised.

I've seen it, but I haven't seen them pulled off the field right before the inning starts. Probably an awkward feeling. I saw him looking for his helmet. You know if he was up to bat he would've found it quick..Gets traded and he gets all sorts of flustered.

Randy Johnson was traded mid-game... though he wasn't pitching on that day.

5-straight baby!

Dodgers acquire RHP Brandon League from Mariners in exchange for OF Leon Landry, RHP Logan Bawcom.

Mariners acquire OF Eric Thames from BlueJays in exchange for RHP Steve Delabar.

What is our obsession with acquiring outfielders?

A quick overview on the players we've acquired

By Jason A. Churchill By 07-31-2012

The Seattle Mariners made two deals that were finalized just after Monday night's game, sending two relievers to two contenders in exchange for three players.

In return for Brandon League, the M's receive prospects Logan Bawcom and Leon Landry. Bawcom is a 23-year-old right-handed reliever performing well in Double-A Chattanooga.

His fastball sits in the 91-93 mph range but he's been up to 95 this season and also offers a slider and changeup. Bawcom projects as a 7th inning arm and could see the big leagues as early as September.

Landry, a 2010 draftee out of LSU, is a 22-year-old left-handed hitter with above-average speed and more than gap power. He's a solid defender in center field, very strong despite being just 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds. He's a bit of a free-swinger, however, but makes decent contact, having whiffed just 52 times in just under 370 plate appearances.

Landry is likely a fourth outfielder, but could force the issue on more regular play with progress with the approach at the plate. He;s very aggressive and isn't keen on drawing walks, but he has a history, all the way back to college, of being patient.

The Toronto Blue Jays, who have acquired Steve Delabar, send outfielder Eric Thames to the Mariners. Thames started the season in the big leagues and might have been on his way back there with Travis Snider being dealt Monday night, too.

Instead, Thames is likely headed to the big leagues in Seattle, replacing Carlos Pegeuero, I presume.

Thames is a nice piece, though not an impact player of any kind. Thames is basically the matured version of Landry minus the foot speed. He does offer strong platoon potential.

The M's did pretty well tonight, considering the bait.

Good to see we've kept Vargas (so far) *knocks on wood*

Today at 1pm (pacific)

Edit:

@Rainshivers

Steven Pryor and Carter Capps called up for the #Mariners. Carlos Peguero sent back down.

Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal
Told #Mariners likely are done. Barring major change in last hour, Vargas and Millwood will stay

So funny to see some M's fans pissed Vargas wasn't shipped off on twitter today

I like Vargas and would rather keep him around.  But if there's a good deal for him, then why not?  Having said that, they shouldn't trade him "just cuz".

Well exactly.  Only trade him if we can get a good deal. Seems like ppl want a trade just for the hell of it. We don't need more prospects "with potential" at this point.

ppl were crying about we need another bat....I'm not sure what bat they were hoping for but it wouldnt be one that would satisfy them, that's for sure

I doubt there'd be any "good bats at a reasonable price" at this point in the season.

6-straight.

2nd-half tear!

13-6 for the month of July.

Nice

Edit: It's been a nice run so far, and I was the one feeling down about this long homestand

Eric Thames seems like a cool dude

It's amazing how this team just is so inconsistent. One minute they look like a AAAA team, another night they'll beat a heavyweight.

Love this quote

"Chone Figgins isn't in there anymore, underproducing. Ichiro isn't in there anymore, underproducing. Hector Noesi isn't in there anymore, underproducing. Justin Smoak is working his **** out somewhere else. Miguel Olivo is playing less often. I'm getting caught up, and I know I'm getting caught up, and it's dangerous to get caught up, but Jack Zduriencik warned us that this would be a streaky team. We're allowed to savor the hot streaks, and we're allowed to imagine that they bode well, even if in truth they don't bode anything at all. A winning team is simply a fun team to watch, and for the moment the Mariners are a winning team. Maybe that ends tomorrow, but it didn't end tonight."
