The Mariners may have overperformed to get here, but they violently underperformed once the door to the postseason was opened. And that's why this was all so hard to take. It's hard because they weren't simply defeated by superior teams. They simply blew it.

Good conclusion of what has happened. This was the best chance to sneak into the playoffs. You think Oakland and LA won't be making their teams better in the offseason? You think the Lastros are going to stop slugging? We blew it, and I'm not so sure this team will see another chance like this again. After all, we haven't made the playoffs since Palm Pilots were still a thing.

Before the season started, no. With the team holding a wildcard spot and then playing the worst baseball they've played in years? Yes. Absolutely, yes.

Sure, it's a bit disappointing to see how they're ending this season (we still have a handful of games to go of course), but at the beginning of this season, I did not expect us to be in this position... within reach of a shot at the post-season... so looking at the big-picture... not disappointed by any means.  Def a step in the right direction.

Surely my expectations weren't this close to what I had to start the beginning so I'm proud and have enjoyed the progression some players and the team as a whole has made. There's has been alot of fun times this year 

but the LL article hit it on the head, it's more disappointing on how and who they're imploding against 
 
well, this season was fun. as much as i wanna say at least it was an improvement over the past few seasons, i cant lie and say seeing the playoff possibilities didn't get me hyped up. well heres for next season. at least we have the hawks to watch now, right? :lol:

i actually think my moms said she had suite tickets for that game and asked if i wanted to come thru but i'm going to the oregon coast for my friends birthday.
 
I don't think anyone is denying this team outperformed expectations.

However, the situation really, really sucks. Look at that, another shutout last night. :lol: The team has so many holes to fill for 2015, when teams like the Angels and A's will simply reload. Then you have teams like the Yankees and Blue Jays that will surely be better in 2015 with some retooling. I doubt this team contends for a wildcard in 2015. The strength is pitching, but to ask this staff to perform 2 years in a row the way they have, is absurd. The bullpen majorly overachieved, and then you have a guy like Chris Young who is a goner for sure. There will be some regression.

Here's to contending in 2019. :lol:
 
What's annoying is that the teams that the Mariners are chasing, are not playing that much better. This team has stunk it up for the past few weeks, against bad/ below average teams.

And it's hard for me to see this team turning around and putting out a better product next year. Iwakuma looks like he is on the decline and getting older, Paxton and Walker are still unproven and Chris Young is...well, Chris Young. Its also been over a decade since this team has had a reasonable offense,so why would it change over the course of a off season?

Sorry for the rant, but I've been following this team since I can remember being able to walk. For them to blow it like this is difficult, maybe more difficult than watching the 116 win team flame out.

Beautiful, took the words right out of my mouth. No sure thing that a 34 year old Iwakuma will be able to stop the decline he's had lately. He's no longer the 2.66 ERA pitcher we saw last season. Chris Young may very well have pitched his final game as an M. Walker and Paxton are both green. Elias too.

Then you have to remember guys like Medina, Leone, and Rodney will probably regress to the mean. Medina already has, ERA ballooned in September.

I was 14 for that 2001 season, and I remember losing to the Indians like it was yesterday. So I'm right there with you. Maybe these other guys haven't been around as long to see this garbage but I went from an early teen to almost 30 without seeing playoff baseball, and I am beyond pissed they blew that yet again losing to a team like the Astros. Giving up ridiculous run totals to the Blue Jays.

I dont see Dominic regressing, He's 22 year old... I think Medina will be fine going forward, they're young guys who hit the wall *shrugs*

I'm not worried about the rotation and or bullpen. Chris Young played out of his normal self this year. He can be replaced by at least someone who will take advantage of Safeco for home starts, at least...they've managed over the year to pick up average dudes and get something decent of out him to fill in the back of the rotation 

The pen is young and still strong. I'm not writing them off.

Just hope the offense somehow, someway can look like a real deal major league squad.

So here's to DJ making it to the Big Show soon, Patrick fulfilling his fast pace hype, AJax stepping up in a contract year 

and Condor finally making his MVP run

I could respect that. I would want to at least make it to the ALDS, but making it to the wildcard game would've been some sort of an accomplishment. All this did was inflate a balloon and pop it in the fans faces. The club is now floundering, and goes into the offseason with more questions than answers, namely

1. Is Iwakuma a dependable #2 starter next season?
2. Where AREN'T the holes in the lineup, besides Seager and Cano?
3. How much money does the team have to spend to stop getting shutout so damn much?
 
So your saying making the playoffs would have taken away those questions?
