**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | 6-8 | v. Cubs & Reds |

It's funny that we were having a discussion on some of the players having a lack of personality, fun expression when they play.

Some Seattle media heads were blasting Montero and Noesi for not having a serious attitude at certain points of the game yesterday

I missed that 5th inning...

Tricky situation for Ichiro and for Wedge on how to deal with him...

At least he got 3 hits tonight...

It is tricky, I still think he deserves the majority of time on the field, he should just have a more consistent routine of having days off throughout the season imo.

Casper needs more time somehow, He can play all 3 spots in the outfield, I'm just not sure how it would work...his PT would still end up stagnant anyways

Casper the friendly ghost

Edit: We give up a ton of runs, but damn it's fun to see this team put up runs, win or lose. Nice W

I pretty much missed everything tonight. Had the basketball game on every time the M's scored and when I turned it back to the M's it was nothing but crickets. Oh well.

Damn Vargas gave up 10?

Looks like Vargas is starting his 2nd half collapse a little earlier this year

From Pro's Insider post in the MLB thread:
The Mariners and the deadline
3:32PM ET

[h5]Seattle Mariners[/h5]

[h5]Mariners have items for sale[/h5]
The Seattle Mariners are well on their way to another summer of selling at the trade deadline, but there crop of veterans that could be available may not draw much interest, suggesting it may be a quiet July for GM Jack Zduriencik.

Deadline Strategy
The Mariners are likely to look for ways to shave payroll where they can and open spots for their younger players, but Zduriencik could also seek a deal that helps the club long term if the right player is available. Adding veterans for the rest of 2012 is not on their agenda, but if they make moves they aren't going to be limited to salary dumps and deals that create roster space.

Money
The Mariners kept payroll down prior to the season, but that wasn't out of necessity and appear willing to add to it if the right player comes along that can make an impact beyond 2012.

Bait
In order to shed the veterans that aren't likely to be here next season and make room for younger players, each of the names mention above, right, are likely in play. For a young talent to be involved, it would have to occur in a scenario such as the deal the M's made with the Detroit Tigers a year ago, sending right-hander Doug Fister to Motown for younger pieces. Ichiro Suzuki, in the final year of his contract, and the club's most valuable proven commodity, Felix Hernandez, are likely safe for various reasons.

Targets
While two-month rentals have no value to Seattle, a quality pitcher or everyday bat under contract beyond this season is certainly worth a discussion. If the Twins shop Denard Span or Josh Willingham, the Mariners could be part of those negotiations and Michael Cuddyer in Colorado is another possibility, though it appears unlikely the Rockies move him.

Going after current and former Twins. Keepin' it all in the family. For me, at least.

Seon Gi Kim. This kid will be called up to AA soon. Pitched 6 no-hit innings and had great command and perfect pitch selection. Must've had 8 or 9 k's. Extremely impressed with him. Saw the scouts behind home plate writing feverishly in their journals after every batter he faced.

It was actually 13 K's...In only 6 innings. Ridiculous.

Also, I didn't know Liddi was European. When he was speaking about Halman I thought he sounded a little...Well, slow. Then he talked about him and Halman being from Europe and how uncommon that was and how it cool it was they were on the same team.

Oh yeah...It was also the night where they retired Halman's number and did a little tribute for him. Sad stuff. They read off a written letter from his mom and caught video of former teammates talking about his impact on their lives/careers.

Cool hook-up though

We score a bunch of runs... our starting pitchers give-up a lot of runs...

Our starter pitches a gem... we get shut-out.

I don't really get it. On the road they do get more HR's it seems, but they also string together solid hits. They can't do ANY of that at Safeco. They seem prone to ground ball and can of corn fly's at home.
