**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | Opening Day is Here! vs. Red Sox |

^ Love the 2 wild card spot system, too.

You guys keeping track on some of the top prospects?

Danny Hultzen:
In two August starts, Hultzen has pitched 8.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 R, 5 walks and 9 strikeouts. In total with Tacoma he's struck out 50 and walked 29 in 41.1 innings with a 4.35 ERA.
Went 5 innings in his last outing, gave up 0 hits and 5 K's. They're giving him the Strasburg treatment, but he'll be on the mound tonight.

Taijuan Walker:

Walker gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning at Mobile last night before settling down and finishing with a line of: 5.2 innings, 5 R, 4 ER, 7 hits, 2 BB and 3 K. The young pitcher is now 7-8 with a 4.22 ERA on the year with 105 strikeouts and 48 walks in 117.1 innings.

Nick Franklin:
After being promoted from Jackson to Tacoma in June, Franklin struck out in 34.1% of his plate appearances in 41 June PAs and then 28.2% of his plate appearances in 117 trips to the plate in July.

However, Franklin has had a nicer August, striking out in just 17.1% of his 76 plate appearances and even better, he's continued to hit for power.

In about one more day, Franklin will have the same amount of plate appearances for the Rainiers as he did for the Generals. His numbers across both levels:

AA Jackson: 239 PA, .322/.381/.502, 4 HR, 17 2B, 4 3B, 24 BB/38 K, 9 SB, 42% Groundballs, 18% Line Drives, .180 Isolated Power

AAA Tacoma: 234 PA, .250/.312/.434, 7 HR, 10 2B, 4 3B, 18 BB/60 K, 3 SB, 32% Groundballs, 18% Line Drives, .184 Isolated Power
One of the few bats IMO worth tracking in the system, reports suggest he could be a Sept call up - not sure how likely that is, but I think he will be on the opening day roster next season. Can't wait to see what he can do.

Mike Zunino:
If Mike Zunino (#3) continues to hit this well, he's going to find himself towards the top of many "Top 100" lists to start next season. The Mariners top draft choice (3rd overall) was 3-for-3 with a walk in the Generals 5-2 win over Mississippi last night and is 4-for-8 over his first three games in AA.

Zunino finished his career at Everett by hitting .373/.474/.736 with 10 HR in 29 games and the Golden Spikes Winner is solidifying himself as a solid hitter that can stay behind the plate.
Saw that he went 0-5 in his last game, but still, this is looking like a great pick by the FO.

Vargas and his road bombs

**** **** **** **** ****

Helluva comeback though. ****

Was in the car listening to both games and I just kept thinking...Hawks taking over 710, meanwhile pushed over to 770, Jaso does it again! I was yellin' man.

Almost a huge play by Thames. Wilhelmsen though. :smh:

Love the fight in these young guys. Getting a wildcard spot would really be icing on the cake this season, seeing the bats continue to develop and continued fights in games like tonight will do for the remainder of this season.

Plus Saunders is down...

Desperately need Guti to get back into it! He's been so unlucky this season, it's ridiculous.

Luckily Saunders injury doesnt seem too bad

Smoak is descending into some pretty pathetic territory. Maybe they should have brought up Liddi instead when Carp got re-injured

They jerked Millwood on that dumb *** delay to spread diamond dry smh

Then they want to put the tarp over when these ***** get the lead.

Vargas and Millwood placed on waivers yesterday, missed that news

So much for holding onto Vargas eh

Yeah, I didnt see that coming...not with Vargas at least.

Hope we pull Vargas back, Millwood seems good as gone if claimed.

^No other explanation.I guess give him a head start to next year...if we lose both Im guessing Ramierez or Noesi sightings as well?
