First off I think we should go for Tanaka. Imagine Iwakuma, Felix, and Tanaka, oh boy!

Second, this whole Cano thing will drag out so I say the M's explore all options instead of holding all their eggs in one basket
 
I read that the MLB and the Japanese Pro league agreed on a $20 million max posting fee, with the player having the option to choose between the teams willing to pay that max.

With that being said, I'd probably rather go that route, with going after Tanaka, than perhaps trading for Price; who would be a FA in 2 years.

Regardless, Felix, Kuma and any of those guys PLUS the young arms competing for a spot in Spring Training would be crazy. Winter Wonder Land....

Possibly but depends on the demands, and how the trade market flows

Hmm, interesting development if true. It helps the M's that the organization is so tied to Japan but I wonder if Tanaka would mind being the 3rd option in a rotation.
 
KC just traded for Aoki which was random since they've been tied to Beltran.

As for Tanaka, I'd imagine he wouldn't mind being behind one of the best pitchers in the world in Felix and Kuma who was one of the top pitchers in Japan.

Why is there a common belief that players can't be superstars in Seattle? As far as offensive stats I understand, but the whole notion that one cannot be a star baseball player is media created.

Have people really forgotten that Ken Griffey was Ken Griffey IN Seattle and A-Rod was essentially already A-Rod IN Seattle?

If you can play, you can play anywhere. If you're a true star, you can be a star anywhere; especially in Seattle.

Just a little venting in reaction to the East Coast bias of the media that continues to try and portray SafeCo field and Seattle as a career-killing destination.
 
Safeco Field is legit hell for right handed hitters though. Just look at Adrian Beltre.
Only right handed hitter to really do work is Boone, but we all know about those roids

***a5in11 you're right about right handed hitters struggling, but also the fact that Boone and Edgar hit above decently proved it's possible. Heck, Mike Cameron hit over .250 rather consistently during his Mariner tenure.
 
I agree its more about they just have guys who cant hit more than the field being the problem

This narrative started to spring up when the talent pool dimished here

Doesn't this screw-over Cano?  M's take the deal off the table... he's left with the NYY deal which is "significantly" less?
 
So far, they haven't reported the deal is off the table. Yankee insider is saying that he's just mulling over his options. Saying Cano flew out to Seattle because he thought he was getting that extra year.

That's apples to oranges though. Griff and A-Rod were studs in HS and both first overall picks. They were marketed and touted from a very young age. They were groomed for that. Cano, not so much.

It does but not a huge amount.


It was the same amount per year.


He loses the money over 2-3 years. I think they can recoup it probably through an option year. A mil or two extra a year as well/
