**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | 6-8 | v. Cubs & Reds |

If Miller isn't sent down after this series, he must be paying someone off in the front office.

Condor coming through again in the clutch.

Like this isnt a slump

Why cant they recognize that? The kid is broken, completely :smh:

Let him get his **** together in Tacoma

Guessin' Hart goes on the DL... spot opens up for Nick.

Then send Brad down... but who else do we bring up?

I hope not

Nothing against Endy, but I rather give Jesus a spot at DH over bringing in another outfielder.

It sounds like Franklin is getting the call. Should be joining the team in Texas.

Probably made the move in order to give Miller a few days off as well. I, too, would like to see Montero get brought up, which I think they would have done if Miller wasn't playing so poorly.

Mariners a finalist for Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell, per Rosenthal

It's hard not to get carried away with this one. Daniel Carbonell recently defected from Cuba, and he's looking for a place to play. He's a five-tool switch-hitting center fielder, and the Mariners reportedly have a shot at signing him. This comes today from Ken Rosenthal:

Told #Yankees, #Mariners are two of five finalists for Cuban free-agent OF Daniel Carbonell. Neither team has confirmed.

2:26 PM - 17 May 2014
If you want to see what he's like, watch the video above of him practicing baseball in his underwear. Here's the description on that video:
The 22 year-old (23 on March 29, 2014), is a legit five tool player: exceptional speed (sub 6.5 - 60), quick hands, and a rifle for an arm. The ability to spray the ball around the field with power, and he's a switch hitter. "Carbo" has been playing professionally in the Cuban Series since he was 17.
Again, hard not to get carried away. Given the recent success of other Cuban position players in Yoenis Cespedes, Yasiel Puig and Jose Abreu—and the Mariners' dearth of above-average outfield talent—it's impossible not to be fired up.

Of course, as mentioned, there are other suitors. The Yankees and Blue Jays were linked to Carbonell way back in February, with another recent report continuing to tie the Yanks to the outfielder.

It's been some time since the Mariners signed a high-profile international free agent. The last time they signed one out of Cuba was back in 2005, with Yuniesky Betancourt. Of course, the Mariners have seen success thus far with Roenis Elias but, as written on here previously, he was a less heralded prospect during his daunting defection from Cuba.

But the outfield is a big-time need for the Mariners, and this could be a big-time player. If the international scouting department thinks Carbonell is something, the organization should go after him hard. We've seen enough to know that Cuban talent can not only translate well, but make an enormous difference, here in the states.

Would be nice

Indeed would be nice. We need a complete outfield makeover. We need talent like this. Switch hitter too

Ya'll remember Jeff Clement?

I heard something very frustrating on the radio yesterday. He was drafted 3rd overall. Of the first 7 first round draft picks, he is the only one who didn't make an All-Star appearance. I think we can say he was much worse than that even.

Guys who went after him: Ryan Zimmerman, Ryan Braun, Ricky Romero and Troy Tulowitzki went 4, 5, 6 and 7 (Justin Upton and Alex Gordon went 1 & 2)...Then later went guys like Andrew McCutchen, Jay Bruce, Jacoby Ellsbury, Matt Garza and Clay Bucholz.

Horrible.

Then again, what good does any of it do if you suck at developing talent?
