Jeter has 2800 more plate appearances.. About 4 seasons worth. (Have to factor in him playing only 15 games at 21, and 17 last year).
600 hits is about 2.75 seasons for Ichiro in his prime.
So he's about a little bit more than a season ahead of Jeter in terms of hits.

Well that really makes a difference. 6 seasons would be almost 1000 games. Jeter has only played 543 more. A little more than 3 seasons worth.
Ichiro is a better hitter for average, and skill, but it isn't like he's blowing him out of the water.. It's a .318 hitter versus a .311 hitter
