**Seattle Mariners 2024 Season Thread ** | 6-8 | v. Cubs & Reds |

Just saw the box score, but have yet to watch the highlights... wow, what game... Olivo!

Good to see that Ichi and Figgy both got some hits too...

Might be going to a Mariners game in a couple weeks. Just found out the Mariners picked up a pitcher a few weeks ago, that happens to be my friends fiance. Good to see them finally doing something, seems almost as if the pressure last year got to the team, and this year there weren't any expectations so they are able to play more freely. Finally have some hot bats on the team though I wouldn't mind seeing Figgy go.

This team is surprising me. It really is. First time in 10 years I've been impressed with the ballclub. If only Dave were here to see this.

Must not have liked what they heard about Rendon's injury.
It sucks too cause they were caught in a bad situation with Bubba being next up...but all I heard was he most likely wouldn't have signed with us and would end up playing at Nebraska

I'ma have to trust Z on this one. It would have been nice to get another young bat..we need them..not more pitching

Offensive power outage today.

Pineda pitched well. Pauley wasnt as sharp as usual but that's because he's damn near perfect anyways....bats gotta wake up

Well, it never hurts to have more pitching. Especially if it's great pitching, but I really liked the prospect of securing that infield for the next 10 years or so.

I guess the uncertainities of Rendon's health is higher risk, lower reward than taking a possible high caliber lefty.

After all is said and done, I'll roll with you Pabs. Just going to trust Z.

P.S. Everyone else in the AL West lost.

And it looks as though Ackley and Carp are really tearing it up in AAA. What to do, what to do...
Mike Carp called up by Mariners
Posted by Geoff Baker

The Mariners just announced that Mike Carp has been recalled from Class AAA Tacoma and will presumably join the team here in Chicago tomorrow.

Mike Wilson was optioned to AAA.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge was not happy with the team after this latest loss. He was especially upset at some of his veteran hitters who aren't getting the job done.

"I thought yesterday was different than today,'' Wedge said. "I didn't think we were very good today. I wasn't pleased with much of anything today. I didn't feel like we put up very good at-bats. We were a little sloppy defensively...we didn't make very good outs tonight. I didn't think we showed tonight what we've been showing and the way we have to play. So, I'm not pleased at all with that.''

Wedge noted that his team missed a couple of early opportunities.

"You go out there and you exectute early in the game and you push one across or maybe two across and it's a whole different feel out there,'' he said.

Wedge added that "this should be a gut check for them tonight because this isn't the way we play and this isn't the way we're going to play.''

The manager didn't go after any veteran players specifically. But he was clearly referring to Chone Figgins and Ichiro.

"With the way we've played and the approach we've had it's evident why we do well when we do and it's evident on the flip side,'' he said. "We've got some of these veteran offensive players that we need to be doing better. People that we're counting on that we need to be doing better. It's as simple as that.

"We've got a lot ot kids up here too but it's a whole different situation. But the veterans, we're damned near 2 1/2 months into the season and we've got guys that need to be doing better.''

Looks like this Carp kid is for real...hope he gets thrown into the fire right away because he has been on a scorching roll in AAA

Damn, Ichi hitting .260 now.

But hey, maybe Carp will spark things... sometimes it takes just 1 hot-bat to ignite things...
