48÷2(9+3) = ???

A logic error? So you're telling me that if you were to give me this question and asked me to solve it before they fixed this "error", I would have been right? But now that they fixed it, you're going to retroactively tell me, "nah son, you were wrong all along"? Who's to say there isn't an error still? Obviously it isn't 100% dependable.

Which brings me back to the problem of this question being highly ambiguous and misleading.

Why are we depending on machines when we have our own brain?

It's ridiculous how many message boards have this exact thread. Starcraft, Korean Pop Music... google search has taken me to some weird places.

Still think it's 2.

The "÷" symbol.

Nothing was hashed out. Dudes are still getting different answers.

It's just funny that dudes swear they are right when no directions or prompt is given.

Fine, answer me this.

Why do you get two different answers (8.666 or 2) when you use the distributive property?

I'll wait.

...

because he doesn't properly distribute.

You guys must be Team Averaged Below 3.0 In College Engineers.  Because my team, Team Averaged 3.5 And Above In College Engineers got 288.

This whole "debate", if you wana call it that, is a bigger than I thought it would be.

Here is the proper order of operations chart which shows Multiplication and Division is interchangeable... but like I said, it doesn't matter using the methods that I used to get 2, because it's a parenthetical rule which trumps Multiplication and Division since parentheses comes before both.

What it comes down to is that you either believe in the rule of juxtaposition or you don't. Those who do, get 2, those who don't, get 288. If you take a math class, even though it's not an official rule, you'll learn to use the juxtaposition rule. No other arguments really matter. Either believe or you don't, and let's leave it at that.

I brought it up at lunch with my grand parents, today. They were split on the decision.
