I'm sure I'll think of more, but here's my first one.

I'm sorry, but I think people wearing their headbands like this look absolutely ridiculous. Wayne Chism is the number one offender. Byron Eaton of OklahomaState used to do it but apparently saw himself on TV and realized he looked like a fool.

So there you go NT....You know what I'm talking about. List little unimportant things in sports that just rub you the wrong way.

Could not agree more. he looks like a complete fool.

The superstar system in the NBA: Given the fact the NBA is the alleged 400 best players in the world, and these superstar/all stars are thebest of the best, it makes absolutely no sense to give the superstars MORE leeway with regard to calls and noncalls to make it EASIER for them. It's theequivalent of being the smartest person in class and so the teacher gives you easier work than the rest of the students. Totally backasswards. if anything, refthem harder

The pump fake jump into you: I've hated this forever, before the 06 Finals but since I'm somewhat of a Mavs fan people are going tothink that's the only reason it bothers me so much. Again, all these rules and loopholes in the interpretations of the rules existing to make it easier forthe alleged best players in the world make no sense. You don't get these calls on a high rate at any other level. The fact the offensive player can jumpabnormally forward, backwards, sideways, or angular in an attempt to initiate contact with the defense and get them called for a foul makes no sense. Ofcourse, there are the verticality rules that have existed forever and always been blown in the NBA, to the point it's a "point of emphasis" thisyr to properly enforce a rule that has been in effect forever, but 9 times of 10 they still get it wrong.

At some point, is it really basketball to come down the court thinking "I'm going to jump into him and go shoot free throws," rather thanthinking about how to endeavor to score a legitimate basket? I saw Aaron Brooks play tremendous defense on Iverson the other night, forcing AI to pull out allhis crossovers and hesitations and AI still couldn't gain any ground. So what'd he do? Just lunged forward like 5 ft and jump into him and go shootfree throws. I've seen players (Devin Harris, Kevin Martin most recently- Malone and Divac did it too) have a wide open lane to the bucket, where thedefenders were there but had parted like the Red Sea and were conceiting the basket, allowing the offensive player a gliding dunk or layup, but instead oftaking it then offensive players jumps at an angle into the defenders who aren't even moving and they get the FTs, regardless of the charge circle status.

Flopping: Somewhat in the same vein as above, but c'mon. The flops dudes do don't even make sense according to the immutable laws ofphysics. How do Raja Bell and Devin Harris draw charges and fadeaways? How does Wade always land on his feet, THEN fall? How do you [pretend to] catch an elbowin the head, then take a step backwards, push off your front foot and slide backwards on your backside? I guess at the end of the day, since it's 99%illegal to try to play defense, they had to give the defense something to almost balance it out.

And by the way, almost every "charge" Shane Battier drew in his NBA Fundamentals segment was a block, including his demonstration with Novak.

Blatantly un-called traveling violations
Gary Sheffield's pants (it's ok to have your pants low, but he makes them look like bell bottoms)
2 Minute Warning (why does this exist?)
5 yard facemask penalty (most of the time, this penalty is when the defender merely lays a finger on the player's facemask, it's ridiculous)
Jump balls in the NBA
Both the NFL and NCAA overtime rules

Actually those are big things.

I feel like if you miss the FT, you don't deserve hand slaps, especially from dude who walks all the way from halfcourt to pat you on the butt. I just giveyou a look like c'mon son
warf.gif

Also, I don't get why guys take a step or 2 into the lane after the 1st ft, only to have to take a step back out and into their lane position secondslater. It's like it just hurt them being confined to their little lane so after the shot goes through or misses, they take relief in stepping out for asecond before they have to go back in.

When people say, "The soandos's of the world"

Like, for example,"Baron Davis is up there with the Steve Nash's of the world."

There is only one Steve Nash cot damnit.

we had this discussion not too long ago, but itdoesn't really bother me if the right "______'s of the world" is used.

"Baron Davis is up there with the Steve Nash's of the world" = Baron Davis is one of the best point gaurds in the world.

what bothers me is people on here who constantly complain about ESPN. it's a 24-hour sports channel. topics will get thoroughly analayzed and repeatedall day and repeated during most of the programs. don't like it? change the damn channel.

I don't know why but it pisses me off how the first timeout in an NBA quarter is so predictable. It always comes from the 9:00-7:00 mark and it annoys meas a spectator.

I hate how badly Yao Ming gets abused during some plays. The refs must really hate this guy because they don't call ##%+ if you're fouling Yao

I hate the defensive 3-second rule, it's a joke.

I hate Gilbert's blogs and I don't understand how a grown man wouldn't find him corny.

Borderline All-Stars averaging 25 ppg (Stern making defense illegal).

All-Star Snubs

Here's another one I thought of. I hate weird batting stance's. You know...like Ripken used to do....Jim Leyritz....Bagwell....this Japanese guybelow...SMH.

That Japanese guy is Craig Counsell.

Annoying stances belong to Gary Sheffield, Tony Bautista, Mackey Sasser, Joe Orsulak, etc.

contiuation calls. Iverson and LBJ get it all the time....

*%%+@ A!!! foul calls. Once in HS i got mad at a ref for callin a foul (on the guy guardin me)while i was doin a drive and dish (or whatever) it took away anassisst easy two points...i dont remember gettin a call again.
laugh.gif

along wit the *%%+@ calls, yall remember the the Celtics/ lakers Kurt Rambis fight?
i heard that big ol foul only resulted in a personal foul (i might be off) but if that happened in todays game, i could for see a 15+game suspension.

- When some points out how "international" the NBA or a a particular team's roster is. A huge chunk of the NBA is made up of internationalplayers and has been for the last 10 yeasr and especially for the last 5 years. Every team has at least one foreign player and many have three or four, this isnot anything noteworthy anymore.

- When announcers do Detroit Piston game that factory workers actually go to the game and that the players live in neighborhoods with people who work in carfactories. I remember a few weeks ago Chauncy Billups said that he had to take his daughter to a soccer game at 7 am and one announcer said that they sucks forsomeone like Chauncy, who plays late at night into the night, and the othe tannouncer said "well I'm sure that many other parents are juts getting offthe night shift at the factory." What century is he living in, factory workers cannot afford Piston tickets and PIston players live in Detroit's poshsuburbs with the auto company executives. The same is true for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the idea that the players have a "blue collar" attitude, most steel mills have been shut down and the plaeyrs are not not Steel mill workers.

- The way that so many football pundits say that you cannot run the ball if your are down. That may be true if you are down by three or four TDs in the fourthbut when you are down by only one or two TDs and there is more than, say 10 minutes or more in the game, you should not start airing it out and esentiallytelling the other team that you will pass on every snap, especially if you have a good running game. You have to run to give your defense some rest and youneed to run to set up the big play.

- The way the NFL takes its self so seriously and always talk about "character." The commissions of the NFL thinks that he is high priest ofmorality by banning and suspending players for what they do off of the field. Worst yet is that the NFL will suspend players for smoking pot because it shows"bad character" but they have nothing but beer and liquor adds on games and at the Stadium. They also like to tout their charitable contributions andit is great that players visit kids in the hospital or the inner city but considering how much it costs cities to build Stadia for NFL owners, they are takingmore than what they give to most communities.

- As a corollary I was amazed, after Andy Reid's kids got busted for selling drugs, when pundits said that NFL coaches are like public officialls in thecommunity. Sports are greta but the coach should be regarded as a public official and a pillar of community, if that is the case, your community has itspriorities out of whack.

"Team Grammar Police"

laugh.gif
i'd put my money on you failing a sobriety test right now. youshould be arrested for TUI.

I did spell a few word incorrectly but my grammar was pretty solid. I still would not want to take a sobriety test right now though.

solid?

like a wet paper bag.

- During basketball broadcasts, it gets annoying when someone scores and the camera shows a close up of the guy who just scored as he runs down the court. It is bad because a steal can happen in the backcourt, the team that got scored on could push the ball up court really fast and I just want to see the game andnot one player's face.

- Aside from the close up of the face of the guy who just scored , the broadcasters of basketball games spend most of the rest of the game with that sameboring side line high camera angle. I want to see some angles from directly over head, maybe one from the corner, something from the baseline, a baseline highshot and maybe the standard sideline angle a bit closer to the court.

- I would like to see high light packages have a bit less dunking and three pointers and more pump fakes, that send people flying; combinations of a couple ofmoves and great passing. I love when a player crosses one guy over, pump fakes another player into the air, steps through and maybe shoots a floater over thearms of the center or pulls up for the bank. Multi step sequences like those are more interesting than most dunks.

- The fact that when one team is down by three and it is the final very late in the game, the team with the lead can foul and give them two free throws. Iwould like to see a rule where a team can decide pick one possession per game where they would be awarded three free throws on any foul.

- This one is actually not so small but does annoy me to no end. The fact that the NBA not only has ended hand checking but the fact that it allows so muchcontact off of the ball. That is bassackwards and it encourages coaches to play a slower plodding style. If your superstar will get every call, it is goodstrategy to spread the floor and isolate him. It also makes it more difficult to run a fluid and dynamic half court offensive system. It also discourages fastbreaking because your best bet is to isolate your superstar and get free throws, fast breaking could lead to turnovers.

If you had to deal with defenders being able to hand check the player with the ball but players without the ball could move freely, you would see the NBAreturn to the style of play from the '70's and '80's. You would have less over dribbling and more passing and cutting, post players would catchthe ball and quickly go to work instead of holding or dribbling the ball for a few second, most players would improve their mid range games, more dunks and layups would come from a good pass or a series of a few good passes and finally teams would always be looking to get into transition or semi transition in orderto avoid having to score in the half court, against more physical on the ball defense.

Doesn't exist anymore, or at least is VERY rare. If a player pump fakes and the defender even flinches, believe he's jumping into him andgoing to the ft line. That's why I loved the Anthony Carter shot from a few days ago so much. He could have taken the easy way out and jumped into Wells, but no, he eluded him and scored a basket.

Timeouts in basketball when the team is down like 7 with 3.5 seconds to go. I know its possible, but its like a .000009% chance. End the game go home regroup

I got another one.

I know it's probably a kneejerk reaction, but did you ever notice when fans know they're on TV, they automatically throw up #1....They could be theworst team in the history of sports, but put a camera on them and they're immediately whipping their index finger wildly at the camera.
