AMC's "Hell On Wheels"

They trying to get this show the hell out of here with this Saturday slot. At least with Friday, you're guaranteed that some people will watch. The Killing, which canceled and brought back, has a Sunday slot. I'm grateful for a third season because I didn't think there would be one after Season 2 ended.

So much anticipation for tonight. Looking forward to this 2 hr premiere. I'm just ignoring that its a Saturday and this is probably the last season and how The Killing got brought back and aired most of the summer in the Sunday slot by itself don't know why Mac won't commit to a show at 8pm ii wouldn't mind this being the lead in to BB but I guess they don't want to do anything more than 2 original shows a night plus with the competition from show time, hbo, etc.

:wow: @ the Swede being alive. I can't even process that.

When the network starts moving your time slot around you know its about to be the :smh:

Love this show. Love this cast. Can't wait to see what they have in store for Season 3!

 2 hours?

I see a lot of guys worried about the Saturday time slot, it wasn't done as a death sentence, they actually did it to help the show.

“It’s an effort to open up another night of original programming, but also it’s strategic,” said Charlie Collier, the president of AMC. “I’m looking at the opportunity. We have decades of empirical evidence that western fans are available on Saturdays.”

Much of that evidence has come from AMC itself, which has filled its Saturday schedule with classic western movies like “Hondo” and “High Plains Drifter,” and more recently with classic cowboy television shows. The network acquired “The Rifleman,” and in the last 18 months has had remarkable ratings returns for that hit from the late 1950s.

Mr. Collier said: “We have been getting audiences for ‘The Rifleman’ on early Saturday morning of 300,000, even 500,000, viewers, better than some big networks do in prime time.” On one recent Saturday afternoon, “The Rifleman” attracted 509,000 viewers.

Looking to repeat that success, AMC will announce at its upfront that it has acquired another classic from that television era, “Rawhide,” which starred a young Clint Eastwood.

And AMC intends to use those series and its store of classic movies on Saturdays as “a 14-hour lead-in,” as Mr. Collier put it, to “Hell on Wheels,” a show about a former Confederate soldier working on the construction of the transcontinental railroad as he hunts for the Union soldiers who murdered his family.

It's a gamble they're taking, but hopefully it works out.

I'm into breaking bad and mad men, you guys think this i'll like this?
Yeah. Its a good show that doesn't get the acclaim it deserves.

The first episode of Season 3 was slow, but the second episode picked up quickly. Great pacing so far. This new woman is poised to be Lily's replacement and has more personality.

The Mormon father sacrificed his own son. Thought that because he was a boy that he wouldn't be hung. Definitely won't be winning any father of the year awards. Bohannon knew he was full of **** for making his own kid take the fall.

Powerful and intense moment. My eyes watered watching it.

I really like what they're doing. It's like S3 is a whole new show and they're starting fresh. They really told a complete story in S1 and S2 and now Cullen is on a new journey with Elam :smokin

I kinda wish we saw more of Cullen in the wild living with wolves with dude in the broken down train car until it started to snow and he was freezing and hallucinating. Felt it could've fleshed out his snapping back in to reality and deciding he still had work to do and unfinished business.

Dug the 2hr premiere. Some old and new faces. I was almost warming up to the new railroad police chief too  :smh:

I'm mad Cullen didn't shoot the polygamist after he gave up his son.

Hopefully Saturday slot and I see they have some reasoning behind it.

(Still wish Rubicon got that chance :smh: )

Brah, you might want to put some of that in spoilers for people.

Really enjoyed this first episode. And like you said, it's as if seasons 1 and 2 were one show and that this is a completely new show.

I honestly don't understand the appeal of Mad Men. I gave it a shot and watched the first 5 seasons. Season 5 was decent, but I just couldn't watch it anymore. Had the first 4 episodes recorded this season and when I finally sat down to watch them, I randomly decided to delete them and delete the series recording settings.

But, I say that to say that I find Hell on Wheels infinitely better than Mad Men. Better acting, better lead, and better storylines.

I don't know why, this had me laughing though..

Anson Mount, the lead of Hell on Wheels, thanked the fans for watching and posted that the Saturday premier had 2.5 million viewers. Especially good because its on a night that people don't watch TV.

Another good episode.

I know I'm not the only one that thought the swede was gonna murk that family (well, he still has time).
