The Official Military Thread. Vol 1

I'm trying to see what my chances are of enlisting as an RE-2 or if it's even worth trying to enlist right now.
what's and RE2? If you are trying to say E2 is pretty simple if you have college credits or refer a body. If you don't have neither many recruiters will try to say it's impossible but you can get the hook up. Either way it is whatever ...E2 and E3 are given just by being in. I believe like 6 months for one and 9 for the other or something like that.

RE-2 is a reenlistment code given upon discharge, I want to go back after I finish school so I'm checking to see what my chances are of going back as a naval officer.

that's what I thought but enlisting? You me reenlisting.

It is possible ... RE3 usually are the bad ones

Do you feel like waiting? Talked to one of my guys and coming in as an officer now is about a year long wait.

Understand they won't touch you until you are done. They actually tend to send a lot of folks enlisted and tell them to apply with the many officer programs. I would start talking to a recuiter now and get a feel for the placement exam. I got a gm3 that works for me now who has a 4 years degree. She couldn't be an officer due to the test and theh wouldn't let her test again for another year...

Pac hit it right on the head pretty much. Also factor in which specialties are top heavy (Surface, Supply Corps, Medical, Spec Ops, etc.) which can cause even a greater wait time, and not to sound stereotypical but your ethnic background can become a bigger factor especially if they need let's say an Asian male with a degree in Industrial Engineering looking to become a ENG-O.

Funny you mention that, one of my AO2's has a Master's and she got screwed into coming in enlisted. She's been putting in her package for the past three years with no luck, smh.

You an AO? I'm an AOC! #IYAOYAS

And that sucks for her. But it's happening a lot! A buddy of mine came in a couple years back and his recuiter did him the same way...

with so much education is pretty dumb of them to not research what the services have yo offer. I put that on the individual rather than the recruiter .... **** out of here if I have a master I'm enlisting as an E1-E3 ... That's like 25+ k a year ... Smh ...

Officers even have different recruiters.

Infinite reps Chief!!! #IYAOYAS I'm hoping to pick up AO1 this cycle after taking it multiple times and getting jerked on being RCAP'ed but hey it is what it is. I've been grindin' tho. From taking on major collateral duties to getting out of rate quals so my eval is looking beastly. If not off next month's test most definitely off Sept.

You gotta realize how naive most kids are. That's where the stigma comes from about recruiters being liars and such. Exactly you got O-Recs and E-Recs, most enlisted recruiters would keep officer referrals for themselves or hell even our officer recs would push them our way because they had too many referrals to process. I recruited near LSU so most kids that came through we're pretty educated. It all depended upon their circumstances on whether or not they would bite the bullet and just join enlisted. The Navy isn't giving out Officer promotions, lol. .

Someone coming in with a master's degree and only enlisting as an E2-E4 is a shame. Ultimately they're responsible but these folks are naive and aren't on game. Recruiters on the other hand are all about meeting mission, spitting game and taking names.

Here is the thing...the officer recuiters are hard to find. They aren't at every station. These recuiters are on thier grind! So when they get someone in they sell them the world. Sometimes these people can't wait for 6 months to a year to get in. Student Loans and such. Plus they get a apr cap once they join and if they stay in 10 years the loans are forgiven.

xwestbullyx xwestbullyx man good luck! I know the biz about getying jerked around. I made e5 slow. 5 years. Took another 5 to make e6. But made chief 2nd time up. Stay on that grind!

Stationed on North Island by the way. Was on the Nimitz from 09 to last year. You need anything my inbox is always open. #IYAOYAS

^^^This dude knows what's up. Just because someone is book smart (up to a master's) doesn't make them street smart or mature.

We ALL know some recruiters are as vicious, tenacious, persistent and smooth talking as a car salesman. That's pretty much their school. I'm not saying they're praying on naive folks all the time but some of the time.

yea mane and they be complaining like aw man I gotta go back to Japan or going to sigonella or some other crazy *** place I've never heard of or seen on a map and I'm like are you serious bruh... I'm in NEW JERSEY. ain't no lower than that haha

noticed you said New Jersey? I'm stationed in NJ also. the only thing that keeps me sane is that NYC is only an hour drive and Philly is 30 mins away. there ain't nothing to do in south jersey.

bruh ... You are doing it wrong. You are in a gold mind yourself. You are in the eastern hub, take advantages of the Space A flights ... They are always flying to Europe Hawaii ... I be taking 10 days leave take my happy *** to Germany the a train to Paris Belgium Amesterdam etc for 3 to 4 days then head back to Ramstein and flight back and check off leave. 10 days to be safe and 6 actual days of leave. Especially off peak season when there's no one taking leave ... Like I said u r doing it wrong ...

son... I work at the port. all that space A jazz and all that... that's my everyday job. anyway, I am talking about New Jersey itself being poo... because it is. poo gun laws, poo drivers, poo weather... it is close to nice places and North Jersey is cool but McGuire and the surrounding area are NOT and I repeat NOT a gold mine.

I went from Edwards to Mt. Home, to Kunsan, to Moody, to Beale.  And then finally Germany lol

Yeah man, I work in the AMCC and deal with ATOC.  Traffic is slow to Spangdahlem.  Not bad at all.

Mad dudes in the gym actin stupid...i throw my headphones on, do what i gotta do and get out too lol

Good luck on the test this year bro.

no doubt bro! preciate it!

Japan use to be wild bro! Back when the Kitty Hawk was there the Navy had a bad wrap due to sailors committing all types of criminal acts on civilians. I still don't think they've forgiven us totally. But a lot of ppl love being stationed overseas, I couldn't do it. I'm currently on detachment in Saudi Arabia and I'm ready to get back home. It's cool but not a place I could be at permanently.

Sigonella is off the chain, along with Rota, Spain and Iceland. I'll take a year billet to any of those.

I was up North at Misawa we had a small amount of Navy folk, but they had the best dorms somehow smh. went TDY down to Kadena and the vibe was different though you could tell the locals weren't really a fan of military folk for the most part (they wanted that money still though). as for Europe man, my Navy homie that was stationed with us in England was always going to Sigonella, made me mad as **** haha. I think that's where his command was because his unit was like. 6 man detachment on base Intel I think

word. during the work week I just hit the gym then drive home and snooze out usually. where you work at if you don't mind me asking G

Bruh ... These colleges grads aren't going to classes unprepared and they aren't writing research papers or taking test without actually studying or doing the research ... Why are we trying to give them a pass? They are dumb for going to a recruiter not asking question taking the same position and rank as a person that's coming straight out of highschool and settling for 25k a year. Makes no sense ... I don't care how naive a person is ... I'm just not going to a job interview not knowing the employer their opportunities and settling for a cleaning position.

The recruiters aren't that good they are just that dumb ...

Because it's not as black and white as you are trying to make it seem.

They step in the office and trust they are asking questions....some of these recuiters are shady. These recuiters tell these kids that they can become officers faster by coming in enlisted and applying for OCS. Which in some cases is true. But not a majority of the time. Going into the military isn't like going for a regular job. When you apply for a regular job you are going for one job. When you walk into a recruiting station there numerous jobs you can qualify for. The recuiter has quotas to get people into certain spots so they will guide people into certain jobs just so they can meet numbers.

Calling these kids dumb isn't fair at all. And thinking they can just research this stuff (unless they know someone in the military) is asinine.

Taking tests for school and going into the military are two different ball games.
