Yet ESPN never mentions that part

This probably was brought up but looks like LeBron is at 9,143 points after 340 games.

No it doesn't. Kobe didn't come into the league on some bum squad as the #1 or even the #2 option. He started his career coming off the benchfor a good team. When he finally got a spot he was surrounded by plenty of capable scorers, so there was no need for him to put up a high volume of shots. Soyes, that list puts a few things into perspective, but not everything.

That pace puts LeBron @ 20K after 744 games, I think.

^ Ya and we also can assume though that he'll get his last 10,000 a lot quicker than his first now that he is a vet.

And you could say the same thing about a lot of the other players on that list though, everyone has different circumstances. Bryant should be applauded forreaching 20,000 "quickly." But I think that list that was posted shows a lot. Let's be honest though too, no one really cares about 20,000 pointplateau

Yes it does. That what happen when you rufes to workout with all time except a handful. When you insist on going to a playoff team things likethat happen he didn't start because the SG in front of him was better than him, and KB couldn't guard his shadow as a rook.

"the way I see it is that MJ is "mom" and kobe is the "stepmom". MJ retired. Kobe started getting light and it sorta feels like he istrying to fulfill the role as mom. I used to hate Kobe but then I realized I only did not like him because people and media compared him to MJ. Then as I gotolder I realized his favorite player is probably jordan( today he named Jordan as his numba 1 in his top 5 all time players and I've seen him in a jordanjersey numerous times and the shoes of course). I am still not of fan of Kobe but i respect him and congrats on the 20k.As much as I love Jordan as abasketball player, if i was as in the NBa I would try to be like Jordan(that impossible move you always wanted to do if you were in a NBA game) and try totranscend his achievements. Maybe that is what Kobe is doing BTW, i am a Iverson fan. "

I agree, I felt this way about Kobe when he came out of high school but he works so hard as a player and his dedication to the game changed my mind. Too badpeople mistake his confidence for cockyness and take it too seriously. Missing out on greatness.

So, who in the league right now has 20,000 points and out of all those people, who reached 20,000 points the fastest?

Tear. Let's give him an asterisk.
The numbers speak for themselves. It's a great accomplishment but he's only the youngest because of howearly he entered the league.

it seems the fans care more about this record than even kobe does.

I wish haters/fans would just stop debating about individual records and have the mindset kobe has.

"championship - or nothing at all."

Allen Iverson is a more talented player than Kobe Bryant on offense. Secondly, Michael is better than Kobe on offense. The only thing Kobe has over either ofthem is shooting. Argue that all you want, but the truth is in my post.

Okay this is just my perspective. And heres why I don't go for who is the fastest or youngest to reach 20,000 points, because it really doesn't takeinto account injuries sustain during seasons, not playing enough minutes to score points because of age or coach decisions, negating factors like teammates whoave. 28+pts. and 20+ FGs per game..

So I calculated my own Points per mins. At about 30K mile point for these popular players and heres the results

1) Wilt At 28,827 minutes he scored 24,020 which gives him about 0.833 pts/min
2) Jordan At 29,600 mintues he scored 24,489 0.827pts/min
smokin.gif
considering Wilt posted a 50pt season ave....but then again wilt played practically the wholegame

3)Kobe At 28,378 mins as of last season, he scored 19,296 which gives him about 0.680 pts/min Takeinto account **AI, did not have a teammate like Shaq, ave 27pts,18FGs for 5 seasons**
4)AI At 31,202 mins as of last season, he scored 20,864 which gives him about 0.667 pts/min

5) Lebron At 13,061 mins as of last season, he scored 8,439 which gives him about 0.646pts/min

Stats are taken form http://www.basketball-reference.com, and derived using simple math.

It gives the offensive numbers a different perspective, I'm not saying I'm right or wrong, but for me these numbers are meaningful

Nice stats Slow Motion. Those really show a different and powerful angle on point totals.

congrats to kobe.. and yea i agree with sum people here about LeBron breaking the record.

i know this is off-topic but
5.Elgin Baylor (711) during the 1968-69 season (11th)
6.Allen Iverson (713) January 23, 2007 vs. Denver Nuggets (11th)

AI! down only two games.. oh so close.
